I've used these cases to store pistols, take them to the range, and even to fly with them. They are great cases for the price. Obviously not as high quality as something like a pelican case, but in my opinion the value vs cost makes these cases a no brainer. Cheaper than buying replacement foam for a pelican case in many instances.

I recently bought two Pelican pistol cases from a local thrift store for well under $100 each, both were in excellent condition, one still had the foam, which was uncut. Talk about luck.

These really are great for the money. Have one thats 3 years old thats been living in a truck, forgotten in the bed, rained on, exposed to chemicals, dropped, and opened/closed hundreds of times. Everything is still in great condition.

That’s good to know, I like things that can stand some abuse and last.

I spray glue the 2 pieces of foam together. Then, flex seal the foam helps it from eventually coming apart after repeatedly taking stuff in and out.

I use Plastidip…but flex seal sounds more robust. I may have to try out on my next one.

Just got the 5800 (the wheeled version).... reg. 99.00... it was 1/2 off. Today only (may 13) and one to a customer. Maybe our California friends will see this and take a look at it. They are as solid as Rando says. Good video! Thanks for making this

I have that for range days!! Easy to remove the foam and tough case. Just layout how you want it before you remove the foam.

Case club makes a high density form insert, just pull the pieces you don't need and can put back in if you need them. I have it for my case as well.

You should spray the foam with plasti dip it'll keep the foam from tearing over time and keep it rigid.

I have one of these. I wasn't crazy about the pick 'n pluck foam, so I ordered a custom insert for it and it looks & works great. I found a custom insert for a Pelican case that fit this one perfectly. You really can't beat the value of these cases. For a short time Sam's club sold a similar case for an incredible $20, but that's long gone.

I picked up 2 ex-military Pelican Storm case im2600's that originally held AN/PLQ-11 countermeasure set, for $15 each. So I do need new foam for my camera equipment or a drone, or whatnot, but they were a heck of a deal. Deals are out there, just need to look for them. The Apache cases aren't bad, maybe a little overpriced for what they are with surplus Pelicans out there, for certain sizes. I have 4 sizes of Apache 1800, 3800, 4800, and 9600. I would like to get a pair of orange cases for the car to hold road emergency gear like flares and jumpbox and first aid stuff. Overall not bad boxes but the ad propaganda of HF 'beats" all other brands is laughable.

There are definitely deals out there to be had. The Apache aren’t bad for what they especially when on sale. Definitely better out there and definitely some worse but for the sale prices they will suit . Take care

The more you use it the foam will start breaking. Spray the top with black Plastidip and it keeps the foam together. It also makes it easier taking things out!

These cases are extremely cost effective. Unless you are packing expensive equipment and expect to drop the cases on a busy highway or lug it through a rain forest, these are more than enough. I replaced the pick-apart foam with padded work mats from Home Deport and interlocking floor mats.

Nice info. I just bought my first 9mm and will add more to the collection. That was a cool case. You never mentioned the coast,just that it was reasonably priced. Only thing i dont like about it was anyone could pick it up and walk off with your collection. An idea i had was i have wood floors in my house. Might look into lagg screws into the wood from the inside of the box then locks on the outside when closed. Really like the way you put them in. Most people lay them flat in between the two layers. Ty for the video. Good stuff.

Cost wise , full price is around 60, at times they run 50%off sales or they even have 10-20% off coupons. I agree theft is a downfall . With one loss of a box your whole collection could be gone. I’d definitely recommend a gun safe for in the home and using the box mainly for transport. That being said lagging it down and locking it would ensure it doesn’t walk off easily.

I love it when you ripple that texture.

One of the first travel cases I bought. The medium-ish sized one. I could fit 2 pistols laying down inbetween the foam and 2 on top with a layer of foam over that. (Foam was cut/pulled to fit them. Very easy and at the time I think $30. Two lockable rings, and that pressure knob thingy I forget the name of. Had it for years without any issues.

@@RandoWayne Plus if you ever really need to; save the foam and a little dab of glue to stick em back together to redesign the layout. These block tear away foam inserts can be reused like that a lot easier than a solid piece of foam.

Very nice case, very nice job, but the phrase "all your eggs in one basket" comes to mind. Don't let it out of your sight at the range!

Foam breaks down over time and from chemicals. Never mind retaining moisture in the case, I wouldnt store my guns in any case like that. Great for transport, not for storing.

Affirmative. I live in south Florida where it is very humid and you’re gonna have some rust and damaged bluing if you leave a firearm in a foam case in this climate. I’m a retired gun dealer so I have a lot of firearms and unfortunately I spray an anti rust aerosol tacky grease type coating on them for long term storage.

@@onionhead5780 that’s a good idea, humidity is a big factor when thinking of proper storage. When I was a kid my dad kept some long rifles in the basement in a cheap safe and sue to the moisture of just that that all had some pitting.

I have several of these and they've been great. I only had one issue where the pressure relief valve didn't work and the top of the case got "sucked in" on an airplane.

You should install some sort of silica in the case as well. Not sure where you are located but moisture is a thing.

You’re right, moisture is a problem and can definitely be a burden if using these for gun storage in a moisture rich environment.

This is certainly a "cheaper" way to do things, but cost vs value are two different things. Yes, this may be cheaper than a dedicated, purpose-built gun case, but I don't see the value here. $60 for the Apache 4800, plus $10 for Plasti-dip, plus your time and effort, and all you have is just an "OK" solution to store/carry your pistols. For $150 you can get a Condition 1 case with far better foam and much better gun retention. Or if that's too much for you, a Case Club for $100-130, again, with way better foam and gun retention(and it comes with a rechargeable silica canister). Far better value for a far superior gun case, and really, $30-100 more shouldn't be an issue when you have $1000s worth of firearms inside. The kicker is they're both made in the USA... if that's worth anything to you.

That’s fair, the cases I have I did buy at the time of thier 50% sale so that did cut the cost in half. I always recommend people do what fits them best but in this ‘case’ I decided to show what I was doing for others that may want general information. I know there are “better” options and even ones that are made in the USA. I always try to support made in the USA when I can, I mean I was made here I think, my parents didn’t vacation out of the country around that time so I’m thinking I was.. anyways I do like the rechargeable silica canister notion! these apache cases are great! i use a slightly smaller one for my camera gear, definitely one of the best hard cases for "delicate" valuables especially for it's price

The slides and firearms are as follows from the left. Sig Xmacro tacops, psa micro dagger frame and aimsurplus g43 slide with ported barrel, psa micro dagger mc1 full firearm, psa full size frame with aimsurplus slide and psa threaded barrel, grit grips frame with psa dagger slide, grit grips full gg19 slide is cut and has a ported barrel also. Nice looking case. I dislike that type of foam. it is open cell and will wear out the finish on your pistols. I just to dot like to prematurely wear off the finish. Open cell foam is an abrasive.

@@RandoWayne That is what I did and the safety levers, well everything that protruded on my CZ SP-01 and other toys had finish wear and it happened fairly quickly. When I used the case after that I always used a rag or towel to keep the foam from doing further damage. I then started to use Savior range bags and pistol sleeves. I actually sometimes use the sleeves and just stack them inside my hard case (when I take too many toys to the range). Keep an eye on it for sure. You might not have issues. Do a search for "foam polishing pad" and you will see similar foam is used to "cut" and polish auto and other finishes.

It honestly took a while to get used to but now it’s second nature. When I draw now the red dot or green, is in a natural view area with both eyes open.

Never store your firearms in foam cases or even rifles in soft cases they absorb moisture and will cause rusting. These should only be used for transport.

Harbor freight is really good at selling absolute garbage

At least when you loose or break 10mm socket it’s quick and easy to replace , a few times.

Whatever I use foam like that, it never looks like clean. I have bad luck on that kind of foam

I’m sorry to hear that. The tear apart stuff with the really broke free clean.
