dont think coffeground matters mutch on slugs, but it atracts fungus gnats and fruit flys, seems like perfect material for smal flys,to hatch in,i also had my share of onionfly last year, in a bed that got alot coffe ground, havent used on the onions this year and i see less fly and less yello leafs.i use coffegrounds, but away from the house, and on potatos this year:)robert pavlis garden fundamentals also talkt about coffe grounds contains some compound thats not to god for young plants root development, but i dont know, havent done any trails my self there:)but im starting to think the compost is the safest place to put it. there is one thing kalled waterglass, its used for several things, from perserving eggs to make fireprof bricks i belive:) its wery alkaline and mixed with some silt\clay you kan smer it on the sides of raised beds\pots. some festen som plastikk to the side of the bed, smers the stuff on the plastikk and fold the plastikk over so you have a `skirt`, that works as long it dosent rain away ore gets dampt way in wet wedder, and you ned the plastikk tigth, so that they cant slugg under it:) the other thing iv seen work is to run two metal wires around the the bed, and putt on a battery, those ones used in tvcontrollers sem to last a seson, use tupperweare boks and glu gun to cep the batt dry and make sure no gras tuches the wires and shortcutt them. and there are a slugg pellet that give them a overdose of iron, maretimegardener talks about the product and seem happy with it:) anyway, good luck:)

Thanks Jan. I normally use pellets as they work well and are safe for other wildlife but I thought I would try the coffee grounds to see if they could be used to prevent possible resistance or ineffectiveness to the pellets. I did some reading and have found mixed reports on the success of coffee, with much dependent on the type of coffee, grounds, powders or applied as a spray. I haven’t seen any negative reports on plant growth but have read of yield improvements possibly due to the trace nutrients in the grounds. I guess a trial is probably needed on my plot to see what’s what. Hope your growing is going well 🌻
