I'm sitting outside of Lowe's, eating a breakfast burrito, and watching this. Probably one of my favorite morning things to do! 🥰

Simple, sweet, informative, and this is why you are so successful. With all your knowledge and expertise, you can explain things so clearly that beginners are excited to try these projects. While more experienced gardeners are thinking, I forgot about this and should get my pots out! Thank you for the inspiration. 35 years ago when we started our vegetable garden, I put herbs all the way around the outside of the garden so I didn't have to get into the dirt to harvest them. I learned so much about herbs, how to use them, and different ways of harvesting & preserving them.
I’m an intermediate gardener but I appreciate your consistency, encouragement, and that your gloves are dirty.
You had me at beginner Gardener. Thank you I am planning to grow Herbs this year in a container.

Glad to hear it! I find that mint is unkillable while basil is a bit more fragile. Make sure to learn how to harvest and prune your herbs. I remember letting my dill flower and... blech! It tasted super bitter afterwards... turns out letting your herbs flower is a no-no... :)

How did your herb garden turn out?
I followed your tomato and pepper starter guide and yesterday, three little green sprouts came up. I was over the moon happy and felt such a sense of achievement! Hopefully the rest of the seeds will germinate too, but at least some of them did!!
I'm one who also loves chives! I plant some in most of my large planters, just because I think they add the perfect leaf texture, and besides, you can cut and eat them!
I recommend white buckets they will last longer that all the others due to sunlight drying them out. Im in Fl & its a huge difference between all the colors… white color is king
I did a border of purple basil a cpl yrs ago...it was so pretty. A lil off topic...last year I did a red cabbage border & I loved it! They looked liked giant roses!! 😍

Love the Herb growing information! A how to cut, use (specific flavors & dishes to use in) & preserve herbs in cooking might be a good video. Thank you for all you share.💚🌿
I’ve got herbs growing like crazy atm. But I’ll definitely be planting Sage. On a different note, I had to find the video where you were trying to back the truck up to the trailer at the Garden centre and your mum was filming herself. I needed a good laugh.. ever considered doing an ‘OUTTAKE’ type video? I’m sure you have plenty of footage of Russell falling out of a Tree, or soil falling everywhere!! There wouldn’t be a dry eye in the house, in a good way of course!!

I think I recall her saying when she got the containers she was giving the blue ones away because it's not her color scheme. So maybe she's giving this away as a gift?.

They also may not have re-enabled the water systems yet, since they're still a few weeks ahead of their "last frost" date.
my tomatoes germinated today, hopefully in a few months ill have some nice little cherry tomatoes
In my experience (zone 7) mixed containers look good until mid summer. At that time some take over and some struggle. I prefer to plant one type per pot. For example plant 3 thyme plants in a 14" pot for a glorious mound.

@@teenagers012 Yes, frequent pruning does help! Many beginners are hesitant to prune but it is essential with herbs! Happy gardening for 2020!

J. M. I look at it like a haircut. Even if I’m not using or drying the herbs I cut they are healthier for it lol. It’s also just nice to look at mixed together. I’m adding calendula just for color again this year
Gorgeous blue pot would look so good on my patio. Freezing here today in MA. LOVE planting herbs every yr.. Hanging in there til it warms up. 💜

Love growing herbs in containers. I do it every year. Mine are in a hanging basket on my back porch 😁
I’m starting again fresh with a new herb garden in containers. I love your video. It was so informative. Thank you!
Thank you, very detailed and informative video. You are so good at this.
Nice video! The container is beautiful blue goes nicely with the herbs!
Thankyou so helpful
This is really excellent advice. Something we are so passionate about and loving your enthusiasm.
I have all those herbs and I love putting herbs in pots😊❤️😊
I'm just staring at that Dolce Silver Gumdrop Heuchera!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Fun to watch. Herbs in pots is my go to method for many years now - and we use all that we grow! Perhaps less for herbs and more for veggies, in addition to everything you mentioned about planting together, I also find the book “Carrots Love Tomatoes” helpful for compatibility tips.
Thank you very helpful and you've a beautiful personality
Perfect timing! I am planting my herbs tomorrow!
Great idea! “Beginners ...” I think potted herbs are best!
You have such a good speaking voice.
hi :) i live in Cyprus, its an island in the mediterranean sea so alot of herps are native here(rosemary etc) but when i plant "native" herbs they die. The soil, sun and weather is perfect for them but they still die, i plant them in the rainy season

Do you get them from a grocery store? In the past, I've picked up plants from the grocery store not realizing they're already half dead. When I started growing my own from seed, I started having more success.
Love all this advice! I found a stacking sectioned type planter for my herbs and as a beginner had great luck! Each area could be watered a little differently if needed and putting the rosemary at the top gave it room and drier soil even! An Idea for newbies like me 😄
Just planted basil, cilantro, spinach, and chamomile a few days ago. My cilantro sprouted but none of the other plants have yet so I’m waiting☺️
Good stuff! I am find some herbs need way more water than I had expected. Spray, but NOT drowning them. Just regular moisture.
A Roald Dahl Rose or similiar would be amazing in the blue pot. Potted Austins look amazing especially in a beautiful container.
Time to replenish herbs...perfect video for me! 😊🌱
Thank you! Would love some different “recipes” for herb containers like Mediterranean, salsa, Kitchen basics etc .

She did a Spaghetti planter this past summer (kind of what your talking about)
Really great information!! I am a beginner and I will be watch lots of your videos. Thank you
Good information
Lovely video! A few years ago I planted my own thyme and basil, I dried and then crushed it up, put them in a spice jar. The colours are so vibrant compared to store bought
I always grow, basail, and, flat, leaf parsley. And last year I dyradrated them at the end of the season, and have been enjoying the herbs this winter when cooking.

You can also preserve by chopping them put them in ice cube trays with water and freeze. Once frozen place herb ice cubes in a freezer bag, label, date, and drop one in whatever you cook.
I grow my herbs in three large half wine barrels. I always pop a couple of viola plants in the tubs too. They look so pretty and you can pop them on top of cakes or mix in salads. Thanks so much for today’s video.
Thank you so much for this video! I have limited space so this herb garden along with my planted vegetable tubs is perfect! 👌🙌
Herb containers - next level genius
My seeds came in a little envelope… I’m a newbie so I wanted to keep the instructions. I planted 6 different herbs in long 24” rectangular pots. I then put each envelope in a ziploc (2 envelopes fit in a gallon ziploc) then seal the ziploc on all sides and stick the ziplocked envelope in a row along the edge of the pot. Now if it rains my envelopes don’t get soggy and wet and they make great markers to tell the herbs apart.
You really enjoy this! I enjoy how you make planting more understandable to me. THX!
Ah, this was so peaceful to watch and helpful!!!
Nice information Laura iam in beginner with herbs and i have very small garden so it fit me perfect thanks for sharing 😃🌱👍
Thanks for the tutorial and feeling of spring!
Oh Laura, you are truly a teacher who is passionate about your interests. To desire your ‘students’ to reap experiences of success is what draws us in to Garden Answer & what keeps us going on this journey right along with you. We feel connected & that you really do have our ‘best’ in mind, not an air of arrogance is found. I for one am blessed to be a sojourner with you as we walk along the gardening path - thank you to you & your family!
I have been watching your video's for a few years I just have to look everyday to see your next video I love everything you guys do I also learn so much from you . Keep up the great job you do .Have A Blessed Day from Julia in Asheboro ,NC I Love You All !
Thanks so much Laura, I was hoping you’d do a video about herbs in pots. I’m looking forward to trying it, and I’ve even done potatoes in a pot with good success.
Really nice garden!
Thinking it's time to plan pots for the Spring plantings. Lazy winter is o-v-e-r. . Lolll
Very helpful.
Thank you.
I am so happy to see you are using those beautiful self watering pots from Michael Carr design - and you are so smart - herbs would look so stylish and chic - my style is more contemporary and modern - I love those clean lines and pops of color - I look forward to seeing what you have planned for 2020
Hey Laura could you in your recap video mention the root system of herbs in regards to how deep your pot needs to be. Case in point like dill weed needs a deep pot? I’ve tried dill in pots and it seems to do better in the ground. Also care of your herbs during winter. As always great video. 🥰. Side note, I have to grow my herbs out of sight of my hubby because he thinks they look like weeds. 😉😄😄😄. He prefers the flowers in pots.
Don't work too hard today. Have fun in Seattle and wash your hands. Thank you!!
Great!!! I am planning to grow a herb planter next to the back door xx thanks for the video
Thank you!!!!
yes!! i want more pots in my garden beds (not a lot) but something for a little more interest and to give some height to some of my beds...and herbs would be perfect!!! love that pot!! oh boy, lesseee... project #10,987,658?? and can i just say that "you are perfect pampers commercial" made me cry!! lol (an old softie here)
I love your joy with the plants.
Thanks
Thank you so much for this very informative video! You are an amazing inspiration to me.
My favorite herbs are cilatro, basil and chives. Can I grow them in one pot instead of oregano and thyme?
Hi Laura I do plant Herbs . This video was such a big help to me. As now I know what to use in my pots as I was just using dirt from my flower beds. I Love all your video's. I can't believe how big Benjamin is getting. Thank you for sharing your Talent with us . So until next time God Bless you and your family and have a Blessed Weekend.
Could you also explain about pot depth? Do some plant root systems need deeper containers, or is it more case of plant size? I bought a nice tall planter last year (end of garden centre season purchase that I didn’t think I needed until I saw the bargain) and now wonder if some plants are better than others for it. Thanks for all you teach us.
Loved the beginner video, so inspired by you I bought 2 David Austin teasing Georgia roses to grow on the pillars of my house, I put them in pots and now I’m not sure if I did the right thing. Could you please give some tips on increasing my success of growing climbing roses in pots also could you tell what the difference between a climbing rose and a rambling rose is and which you would prefer 🤎 thank you 😊
Great video! I have a 8x12 raised bed I’ll be planting up this year but I’ve been looking for a reason to justify buying more urns and planters from Unique Stone...here’s my reason...plant herbs!!! 😜
That was work just putting in the dirt. 😆 But feels good. But I've always loved to Garden. Its in our blood I think. Would love to try Herbs sometime. 💖 In High School I was in AG. Loved working in the Green House. 🌸🌺 Yep, gravel and holes in the bottom of them.
Am a Beginner. THX for the encouraging video!
Thank you for yr help ... I am new to gardening and need all the help I can find🙋🏻♀️
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen. Subscribed right away! Looking forward to seeing more of your videos and learning to create the garden of my dreams. I’m off to see if you have a video that addresses a partially shady veggie garden. Thanks for the knowledge!
As usual, your timing is impeccable. I was planning on planting an herb container garden this weekend! Thanks for the guidance.
Thanks! I love container grown herbs!
Great video! Shared with my friends and encouraged them to give it a try. Would love if there is a follow-up mid season to show them how to harvest/prune to keep plant going all summer long.
I'm a newbie to plant some herbs. Thank you for this great information! It was helpful for me!
Very nice video for my coffee with Laura. I love planting herbs and they work so well with young children. We have rosemary, pineapple sage, mint, thyme, lemon thyme, chives, sage, and parsley all planted in pots. They children love the fact that they can just grab off a leaf and eat it plus that helps the plants keep going as they get pinched back quite often. Herbs are also in one bed over on the toddler playground and it is so fun to see the children already eating the chives that have been growing as well as the sage and rosemary lol Our winter here in the Pacific Northwest has been pretty mild so lots of plants are pushing new growth. Sure hope I get to meet you on Saturday at the garden show Laura!!!!
Another great video! Will you do a video on how to dry (or do you freeze) the herbs?
Parsley is a host plant for the swallowtail butterfly so plant enough to share with those hungry little caterpillars.
Containers are a must for herbs like mints too. And I love rosemary in containers, especially when grown as topiaries. I can never get my rosemary to survive indoors though. Many herbs are easily started from seed too - basil, sage, thyme. I’ve started rosemary but not early enough. Lavender is impossible I’ve decided.
Excellent manageable and is how I started.
So much knowledge!
I love how you explained every step in detail and showed watering it in. Did you premoisten the potting soil?
@nef4588
4 жыл бұрын
To my understanding you only need to premoisten potten soil for seeds. Other than that Ive thrown dry soil into containers and my herbs are very happy :)
I’ve always wondered if planting multiple herbs in a pot affects the flavor of each one ....Do you have to be careful of mixing certain tasting herbs? Ex: do chives make the other plants taste more “oniony”?
What a beautiful blue flower pot! Thx for another great tutorial Laura. 😊☀️🌱💧
Nice :) thank you
Thank you! 🪴
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Laura! This is such a great idea! I have downsized to an Apartment and growing my herbs in containers would suit me just fine! Thanks for sharing!💗
Excellent video, thank you!
I can only container garden we are in an upstairs apartment my front porch is all sun and my back porch is partial I would love to see if you could make video on just tomatoes an cucumbers in containers my toddler loves both and if I can provide them both for her to pick on her own it would be amazing!
Thank you for this video😁✨
If you broke the root ball would it preform better or worse? I have heard that breaking it helps the roots grow out and if you don’t break the root ball they will have a harder time growing into the new soil.... 🌱
Two things I’ve always wondered-is it good to put rocks at the bottom of a pot for drainage and how tightly should the soil be packed?
Im a beginner Thanks for this! Please do a beginner in building flower beds
As a beginner, I really like your vedio! You basically answered all the questions I have! Thank you so much for making this vedio 😍
Thank you for all the great tips! I started a herb garden on my kitchen window seal and they’re just starting to come up so perfect timing!!
Yea your using the new colorful pots 😉
So Helpful & Easy 🥰 Thanks to You
