I searched high and low for a good video on this and this is by far the best one! Thank you for all of the tips. I would love to work at a flower farm!

Can I plant my bare roots in pots now (in early summer) and then plant in the ground in the Fall?

I bought my papaver roots at Walmart in the spring in April and they had delicate green growth on them, I obviously had to take them out of the package and I wanted to nurse them in a small pot for a while since they were tiny and delicate, I planted them in a 5" pot with the green growth exposed above the soil level and put them out in full sun and it was an 83 degree day and 5 hours later the green growth sprouting from the roots withered and turned brown, did I kill them? I brought them back inside, what should I do?

Sunburnt from not hardening off. There's a chance that they may come back from that. I would put them outside on a porch or something, take care of them and see if you get any new sprouts. When plants haven't been exposed to the elements the sudden shock can set them back quite a bit.

@@PetalsAndMetal yeah that's what I figured, I'm kinda frustrated with myself because I bought them yesterday and I knew I probably should have kept them temporarily in indirect light and I didn't expect the temperature to be 83 degrees in April. Definitely hotter than usual for this time of year. My plan was to harden them off but just made the mistake of putting them in full sun on a hot day
