Just goes to show that fishes do not read books or subscribe to self proclaimed experts. These two setups break all the rules of the snobs who raise or are so called authorities on tropheus species. These colonies are thriving, breeding and cohabitating with other species and plant life. Simply amazing Daryl.

Unsuitable in a natural habitat kind of sense? Yes. Unsuitable in a "tank isn't healthy for the fish" kind of sense? Nah. A stressed Tropheus specimen will likely get Bloat and refuse to eat, chosing to hide and shimy with its fins clamped until its body collapses on itself and dies, I assume you know. These Tropheus seem active, they are creating offspring, which means they are feeding well, and it appears that they feel that the environment is safe enough to let their young out of their mouths, seeing the size of the fry that are swimming around among the foliage. Knowledge that is learned through keeping things first hand are to be learned and considered, yes, but they're not laws that are meant to be strictly followed. In this hobby, we try to give our fish the best lives that they can have within little glass boxes, and so we tend to replicate the places our fish would naturally live in. Of course, mkst of our fish don't actually come from those places, instead coming from farms that use vats and tubs to contain them. The fish, never knowing where they come from, have suited themselves with the ever-changing environment that they exist in, they've grown to not care, their bodies toughen, uncaring of whatever place they will go in next. If people can have Bettas and Tetras thrive in hard, alkaline water, why can't people keep Tropheus in planted tanks, despite the fish showing no negative effects when kept in such conditions?
