Information
- Source: ACLU analysis (graphics.aclu.org/marijuana-a...) 2020
- norml.org/marijuana/fact-shee... (2022)
- What is the ACLU?
- non-profit legal advocacy organization in the US
- Pro: has been instrumental in several cases involving First Amendment rights
- Con: those on the right argue that the ACLU is too progressive and biased in its advocacy
- Facts
- 43% of drug arrests are marijuana arrests (9 out of 10 of these arrests are for possession)
- Black people are 3.6 times more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana possession, despite similar
- usage rates (in Montana it is 9.6x and Kentucky it is 9.4)
- this is roughly the same rate as pre-reformation times
- since 2010, racial disparities in marijuana arrests have actually worsened (Maine and Vermont it inreased after legalization)
- consequences of marijuana arrests are life-altering
- parents may lose children in court proceedings
- disabled may lose health care
- immigrants face deportation
- families evicted from public housing
- finding a job becomes difficult
- due to systemic racism in the justice system
- War on Drugs policies disproportionately target people of colour
- racial profiling is to blame
- larger issue (www.pewtrusts.org/en/research...)
- "Overrepresentation of Black people in jails is a reflection of disproportionally higher admission rates and longer average lengths of stay for Black individuals than for their White or Hispanic counterparts. And these disparities persist across charge severity, age group, and sex, as well as other metrics"

Love this content. Screw the haters. Slavery, Jim Crow, Cointelpro etc all happened, and continue to affect current events. The haters just want to bury their heads in the sand and not ask the obvious question: how do past events affect the present? Discussions like this address that question. The haters just want to say black people are inherently criminals and move on like the lazy idiots they are.

As far as topics go, I actually think "fatherlessness" among minority groups is worthy of discussion. The term itself is the new dog whistle, but comparing minority vs white family demographics would be a great way to examine bigger socio economic issues. And it's another topic you can bring in FD Signifier because he already does work on black families specifically.

@@MajorLuciousit's when the father is absent from the child's life. There is a correlation of fatherlessness and crime, regardless of race. What do you mean the root cause of societies problems? If a child is more likely to go on to commit crime without a father present then you can imagine the problems. Edit: trying to post a link to a news week article by larry elder but youtube keeps deleting it🙄. Read that if you can find it.

  • @MajorLucious

@@eazyrat So fatherlessness is so much more important than race that we should just ignore 200 years of racial history in this country? Does the decades of slavery, Jim Crow, Redlining, Cointelpro, etc have such little impact on society that the issue of fatherlessness supersedes all other factors? Kids have been born out of wedlock since the dawn of time. You can't point to anything in society and say it was caused by fatherlessness on a large scale. We can draw a direct line from the criminal justice system to broken homes, but then "fatherlessness" is just a symptom, not a cause. I know Larry Elder's work. He'll spout some nonsense about boot strap mentality that has no bearing on anything.

  • @eazyrat

    @eazyrat

@@MajorLuciousdid you read the article? Incarceration figures fir blacks were better than whites in the 60s. If the correlations are true then I don't see why it shouldn't be prioritised. We should be ignoring those things you've mentioned as much as possible yes. They have their criticisms also but mostly because where do you ever see in self help or therapy that focusing on the past and having a victim mentality does anything good for a person. The end goal with race should be that it becomes as mundane as the colour of your hair but instead we are being told about our whiteness and blackness as features which any philosopher would understand to be bs and frankly racist.

turn to Jesus Christ he loves all of us more than anything and he literally died for us. He took in the punishmrent for our sins thru on the cross. It wasn’t cuz we deserved it, but cuz he loved us. 1 John 4:10 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” it was thru his love that he died for us and we can be forgiven
