In this video I have built a closed terrarium using a planted piece of driftwood. Epiphytic plants were used for this build and hence no soil was necessary for rooting of the plants. However the terrarium will need to be fertilised from time to time in order to provide nutrients for the plants to keep them healthy and growing.
Video on plant Pellionia Repens : • Best plant for closed ...
Plants used:
Sheet Moss
Cushion Moss
Bolbitis Difformis
Anubias Nana
Pellionia Repens
Selaginella Uncinata

Very nice scape! I also bought a couple of Anubias Nana Petite recently and love it for its dark green leaves, which are also small and cute. By the way, I also bought some HC Cuba aqua carpeting plant. I try to grow it emersed in some terrarium soil to later plant it in my big terrarium build as well as in my aquarium. But even if it establishes emersed in my propagation container I still wonder if it will grow well in a non-air-tight terrarium because it seems that in order to grow it emersed it requires every day misting. I've seen this guy on KZread, he has grown HC Cuba very well inside a terrarium few times. Have you tried growing aquatic carpeting plants inside a terrarium or maybe propagated them emersed? Because I see that you have a different kind of unique style of building scapes when some others try to replicate a jungle look

This is a beautiful display. Question- do you need to mist it regularly and if so how often? I just can't get over the setups you create and hoping you do more, thumps up!

  • @TheUrbanNemophilist

Thanks. Yes I will have to mist it once in a while and also spray in nutrients for the plants. Aquatic and moisture living plants in here so the extra moisture will be good. Please note watering for every terrarium is different depending on size, type of setup and plant species used. Some can run many months without any watering at all.

How long do the springtails survive like this? I have some but they live in a vivarium with a gecko and his food for nourishment.

  • @TheUrbanNemophilist

Their lifespan is 3-4 weeks. They will survive the period. If they do not breed then the colony will eventually perish. By that time terrarium would have settled and mold issues resolved if any.

Boiling water shouldve fixed it, but i would definitely add some springtails and/or isopods. Flip over dead leaves or rocks and you'll find many.
