English, Korean, Japanese and Dutch Box can all turn an annoying orangey bronze colour in winter. This bronzing is a natural response of this genus to cold and bright winter sun (cold winds don’t help either). It is not uncommon after a series of frosts (cold nights, sunny days) to get calls to the nursery from distressed gardeners about their bronzy box. This is more common in younger plants, but can also happen in mature plants. The plants are still healthy and will put fresh new green foliage on in spring. However, if your aim is to prevent this happening in the first place: • In autumn, sweeten the soil with dolomite lime and feed well with all purpose fertiliser. • Try to shield young Box plants from severe winds and strong winter sun, a temporary wind break is helpful.

Did you check the cultivar of boxwood you have? Some boxwood do turn bronze in the winter and then green again in the spring. Sprinter boxwood is the only one that I know of that religiously stays green. There’s a funny stretch of road in my native Baltimore Maryland where they have had to replace the boxwood hedge a few times over the 100 years it’s been there and in the winter the whole two mile long row is a rainbow of bronze and shades of deep green but they’re all trimmed to the same size

I guess we tend to think of historic buildings as being "set in stone" but you're reminding us that beautiful buildings are living breathing things where each generation leaves it mark. I love the combination of modernizing and maintaining the Chateau but with always the sensitive eye toward history and period appropriateness. You're always having to juggle that, with one foot in the past and one in the future. Lovely job.

Thoughts on yellowing boxwood for you - sometimes young plants are especially sensitive to two things that can bother boxwood of all ages: 1) car exhaust; 2) sudden temperature drops, especially a wide difference between high and low temps. 3) Also, boxwood likes rich soil and plenty of water. The surrounding gravel might be wicking the moisture away, which the new plants are too tender to resist. I'd focus on keeping the roots happy with a top dressing of good compost now, and then another in early spring, with a bit more nitrogen. 4) Also, some boxwood varieties get yellow in the winter, just because they do. 5) Another thing to check is the soil pH; might be the new gravel is an even higher pH than boxwood likes, making it hard for the plants to take up the nutrients they need as the dust from the new gravel washes down to the roots. 6) The plants might be planted a little lower than they were in the nursery, or might have settled. 7) changes from the nursery conditions, so might just be taking time for the young plants to settle in. Tinkering with all of these things might correct the situation over time.

It will certainly look more formal & imposing without them. 🤔Think the austerity & elegance will grow on us. Plus, I like symmetry introduced by the pair of ornate Juliette balconies. Awe.... Josie....what a treasure she is. I must admit I'll miss seeing her, hearing her hilarious comments, glancing at her amazing culinary creations, and witnessing her elegant, fun, and cheerful wardrobe styling. Speaking for all La Landers I can confidently proclaim we look forward to her return. That said, her friends and family must have been missing her terribly. As I am quite certain Josie did them. Therefore, we must not be selfish, nor express a desire to lock her away in the tower to prevent her escape upon her return. Cloning, I'm afraid, is out of the question as well. Thank you Josie for allowing us to get to know you. You're one in a trillion. Cheers!

What a lovely lady Josie is!! My gosh I have loved every single minute of her 'screen time". How I wish I lived next door to her, life would be fun and so interesting. Thank you for everything Josie. Is there a possibility we might be able to have to cardamom cake recipe ? It looks beyond decadent and Google refused to help me find it! Absolutely looking forward to her return ! Stay safe lovely lady!!!

5:34 I feel like this design would look great with two added tall sconces on either side of the entrance. They would add dimension/ambiance and let guests know which door to enter upon arrival. Some greenery to soften the look would also be nice as well. Perhaps some garden boxes on the balconies?

Ah every woman needs a brother Gerry, Mine, Garry passed away aged 17 and 1 was 12, we had an amazing connection, my other 5 brothers just didn't cut the mustard but Garry was a true Jerry in my life. It was for a short time but magnificent and seeing you both together brings back such happy memories. I am now 58 years young and his memory still guides me through life's ups and downs .Deborah, Melbourne AUS

I can’t help it. I just always look forward to your videos so much. It’s so nice to witness the warmth of a cousin love. It’s such special tenderness. And makes me remember my sweet cousins and the love between us too. Strangely taking the shutters off seems to elevate the facade. It will be so beautiful. Thank you for another sweet video.

How would Nattie feel about her apartment feeling more like home? I know she loves all things “Chateau”, but I envision a private space that takes her home to Argentina. Maybe a sparkling white Venetian plaster with bright wool fabrics (I know Steph already has some of this in storage) and finishes that remind Nattie of her home country and South America?

Stephanie it is wonderful to see the beginning of the premier. I love the idea of putting the façade back to the way it used to look without the shutters. The Château is going to look so beautiful when it’s got it’s much needed facelift. I’ve been watching you for a while now and I’ve watched all the past posts and I’m just enjoying sharing in the life of you and your family and friends. You have no idea how it has helped me during the isolation due to Covid and gives me such a joy. Dan and Kristie are amazing in the garden, and all that Dan does in general. Love having your cousin with you. Amaury has the most soothing voice, and easy on the eyes. He is definitely all man! His work space is fabulous. Love a man that keeps his space tidy. Oh my, pork pie looks beautiful. It looks amazing. Josie looks so lovely in her yellow. What a wonderful dinner with everyone. That fabric is gorgeous and love the color. Took my breath away. We have lovely rain today. Wishing you a blessed and happy week ahead. Love to all.❤️❤️✨💐🙏🥰💋💋☮️🤗🐶

What a lovely lady Josie is, so down to earth! I know it's only patrons that are being asked for their input into the new facades, but I think for the doorway entrance a beautiful large obelisk on each side of the door would be beautiful. Take care of yourselves, stay safe, be well. Much love Kathy x (Ontario, Canada)

I must say, yet again, that you and the LaLanders make me so happy. Each and every one of you is a special gift. Even Aloysius. No matter what I'm feeling, I can easily imagine just being right there and it feels like I really do know you. And I completely appreciate you all. I cannot wait for Josie to come back. She is an amazing lady with so many stories and stunning recipes. I wish some of the recipes could be shared! Onion soup, cheesecake, pork pie; and to think Josie could have been hurling Latin epithets around the castle bringing even more joy! "Manus meas ungulae!" "Hands off my trotters!" In thinking about the façade renovation, the LaLande family crest might make a nice addition, or some LaLande-specific related heraldry. There are 3 birds featured on the ancient LaLande Crest, which I thought were Peafowl but may in fact be Cranes which are known for their vigilance, guardianship and protection. Might be nice over the main entrance or on the old stone rectangle of the oldest section of the castle. Sending warm hugs and love to you all. 🙏🏻⚜️🍁🏰❣️🏰🍁⚜️🙏🏻

I think the boxwood problem may be too much mineral leaching from the gravel into the soil around the boxwood. You can google the solutions for this, but it should start with simple soil testing. You may need to create a barrier. Good luck!
