    After watching the whole video I decided, THE O PORT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY. I SAVED THEM 10 MINUTES and a few bucks. The sound difference is about the same as if you put stickers on your guitar. You do not need to improve the sound of a Martin. You could not anyway. If they helped Martin would build them in. o yeah don't put stickers on your guitar either. that was meant as a joke.

    The (Martins as yours, and most of brands) guitars are made to have good quality sound. They have improved the guitar´s structure and they are using woods as spruce, mahogany, koa, etc, even the solid wood is more expensive than the laminated wood because they produce better sound, and the guitar´s top has specific thickness to achieve the vibration flows freely to have the best sound possible (this is the reason they prefer solid wood), so if you block the vibrations, even with your arm when you are playing, you are blocking the vibrations, the resonance. So this thing just blocks the resonance and the result is the sound is dull.

    I own one and I dont use it if I'm not being mic'd in some way like if i go to a jam or something (I'm a bluegrass guy) because they do cut back on you're volume and bass responce. I do use it on any recordings though because the lack of volume and bass seem to fit on recordings because it isn't so overwhelming. hope this helps out! It really helped on my 71 D-28 on recordings and whatnot.

    Can't tell any improvement in the sound. Instead of a sound enhancer, I might still try this as a sound damper to lessen feedback, but sill have an open sound. Anybody know how well this will eliminate feedback if you're plugging into an amp?

    In my opinion, or my ears opinion, the stuff mutes the sound. It is like puting a blanket on the guitar. The sound of before has more brigtness and it resonates more. That material absorbs, resonance, vibration, and low the volume down. It does change the tone to a more smooth sound with less brilliant resonance..less treble, more middles, less bass. Maybe together with a pick up, could change for better the sound of an old cheap guitar.

    Sounds like it flattens the sound, almost lessening the bassiness of the natural sound but increasing clarity of the midrange. My Classical was built with a small brazilian rosewood Tournavoz as per Torres design and it lowers the main body resonance about a 1/2 step. My newest classical has a soundport which raises it the same amount. The O-port will have the opposite effect of a smaller sound hole so actually lowering it, Might be good on some guitars, not always. My acoustic might benefit

    I'm surprised to say that I prefer your guitar without it. I've heard other guitars, on youtube, where there is a clear improvement. I suspect depth of guitar body has an influence?

  • @brarunasunburn7794
    @brarunasunburn779411 жыл бұрын

    I heard a compression of bass response with the plastic,yeah you can feel on your body the vibrations of bass frequencies cuz they are being dampened and absorved by the body of the guitar and dont come out of the guitar hole because of the o port,i can hear an increase of definition cuz the mid and hi frequencies are not canceled and affected by the bass,that makes the sensations of more volume but is just more clarity and definition,acoustic guitar = low pass filter.IMHO.

  • @PlayGuitarcom

    @PlayGuitarcom

    It would certainly work with any piezo pickup (under the saddle styles), but other ones it may depend on the type. The only concern is if you have the physical clearance around the sound hole; I've seen some guitars where they have a little volume knob mounted just inside the sound hole for instance, which would not work with something like this.

    First off, this is not a new invention (whatever patents it may have protecting ti!), it is an adaptation of the Tornavoz which has been around in the classical guitar world for many years; a few people like them and a few makers still use them, but they never really caught on. The stuff around the o port is pure hype. Second off, on this guitar on my system, the sound is actually worse with the o port in.

    Without sounds like wood, with sounds like plastic, albeit with a bass increase, and a tad more volume. I think this would probably sound great, if it was made out of wood - but then you couldn't smoosh it through the sound hole - perhaps a two piece wooden model that would snap together once inside the Guitar? Get to work on it D'addario! ;))

  • @jhound

    @jhound

    5 жыл бұрын

    Agreed, but seems to be an everything-else-decrease, rather than a bass increase. Expensive guitars are expensive because the tops produced overtones. You pay for a more “complex” sound. This comes from the vibrations of a high quality tonewood top. This simply deadens the top, killing some of those rich overtones Martins are known for. A strip of duct tape across the top would achieve the same thing. Any way you slice it, you are connecting *plastic* to a wood top. Gimmick. I will pass on this.

    Guys, I checked out a lot of videos about this thing and after buying I can say only that the f*cking 3-chord strumming doesn't present you the real sound of ANY guitar. I found that o-port really makes better and louder sound. There is no doubt. Play some Travis picking or fingerstyle to hear the real changes of sound. That's it.

    The technical inaccuracy of your explanation is PAINFUL. The sound hole doesn't let the sound out, it lets the air move. The sound comes from the face of the guitar, there's no 'sharp edges' affecting the sound, or whatever it is that's failing to be said. The O-Port has the same effect on the guitar as the port on a sub woofer, changing the mass of the air until it's resonant frequency until it’s somewhere near the lowest notes of the instrument, dramatically increasing the bass effect. Seriously. Do some cursory research if you are showcasing products.
