This feels *very* Subnautica, minus the crushing terror of being underwater/Sammy.

Unless it has massively changed for the release (does not look like it), it's like a wish version of Subnautica. Fun for a short time, but nothing to hold you there.

I hope you continue playing, this game has been one of my biggest happy surprises, it's a real delight to progress and explore, as well as a massive achievement from such a tiny team. The way I've been thinking about the heat/pressure is that we didn't start at 0 Kelvins and no pressure, rather it's measuring how much we've added to the planet, otherwise as you said nothing would work!

I've been playing this since early access and it's a fun, chill building/exploring/terraforming game. Watching the world slowly change and plants and animals appear is rewarding. There is another side to the game as well, which you will stumble on as you explore. The planet holds a mystery.

Non-spoiler protip: If you go into settings, you can change the run key to a toggle, then swap the convivence key (ctrl) and run key (shift) and it makes life a little easier, at least for me. Just tap ctrl once to turn on full time running (you don't use water/food/air faster when running). Hold the more convenient Shift when you want to turn items 90 degrees or build multiples in a row.

even better, there is a craft from containers mod, which quill complained wasnt posible. the item stacking can be nice but it can feel a lit like cheating and take some of the fun of managing inventory out of the first play trough, crafting from containers its just quality of life stuff.

The one thing kinda stopping me from picking this up is that I read it doesn't have a randomly generated map. Idk, for me that's a bit of a minus just because every new run will just be the same, knowing where big deposits are where to place things. Idk... maybe it's just me.

If all these billionaires were smart they would give up on sending actual people to mars. Develop faster communication technology and send robots to begin terraforming mars using interfaces like this that regular people could control and make the whole terraforming process like a game that anyone can play with specific goals and rewards for people that complete them. I realize that such a project would be an enormous under taking but think of all the people who love gaming and would love the opportunity to actually see and help transform another world in real life.

The time and resources it would take to develop drones with even just a similar level of capability and adaptability of a trained human, is far better spent on trying to get actual humans to another planet where they can act independently. Chief amongst the plethora of problems drones would face is reliability and general maintenance; human beings are organic machines that function decently well on their own, basic needs such as food, water, shelter and oxygen are much simpler for us to create systems for than entirely new, mechanical lifeforms that can't take care of themselves. It's a nice idea, and unmanned drones will likely take up the bulk of the burden of future construction/fabrication/colonization efforts, but until a few major breakthroughs in AI capabilities as well as signal strength and reliability, it just isn't viable yet. Also to add, we can't neglect the human factor to any near-future endeavour, especially space exploration. People want to go and experience the final frontier themselves, boots on the ground, not just sat on Earth or in some small space station piloting a drone. That'll likely be the safest and most efficient method of exploring space when the time comes, but the sheer incentive of actually being *out there* is difficult to take away from the human spirit. I can guarantee you that the billionaires interested in space travel understand this, simply because it makes more sense from a business standpoint to keep people involved.

Tips - don't get too attached to a base in the low-lying area you are currently in. Once the ice starts to melt, the water has to go somewhere. The best plant seeds are 600% and found in golden chests scattered around the area (2 in the main landing area; 2 in the aluminium fields area); best to upgrade whenever you can. There are lots of crashed ships (wonder why?) - lots of story to discover. Have fun. I've played for over 2000 hours and I just love this game! Save your foods until you are prompted to eat (until you have food growers); the beans are the best seeds (60% of health, eggplant the least (25% of your health) but you will need them for crafting more things later on.
