If you want a prime example of examplry early acess... well there was Hades, but that came out allready, BUT there is SATISFACTORY! Which currently sits at 97% positive with 93k+ reviews. It's absolutely magnificent and if the premise even slightly interests you I wholeheartedly recommend checking it out. It's in a similar genre to Subnautica and Planet Crafter, but with focus on building and logistics, with very minimal survival elements (about as much as is needed to make exploration interesting and exciting). I think it out-does both games in presentation even.

400h in my first play through back in late 2020 and started my second play through 2 weeks ago 100h in. Amazing game, the world awesome and not procedurally generated so every environment is tuned and nodes are not randomly placed. Also very easy and no stress game, resources are unlimited so it's all about the planning and logistics, you can make it sloppy or have a perfectly tuned and 100% efficient factory. That 400h playthrough I only tapped like 20% of the nodes on the huge map the whole time was just building and trying to make everything fit and work.

Much like you, I found this game through scrolling through Steam, and had a very similar reaction to yours, though there was a demo available for free when I got it. So of course I played the demo first, before making the purchase. After playing for about 30 minutes, I saved and exited to buy the full game. Really glad to see videos on it, especially from you!

Hey Bricky ;), there is this new game called Shatterline, a dev-published call of duty like game with an interesting pve rogue-like mode. The devs are very connected to the community and take advice from us very often. It would be amazing if you tried it out and if you think the game is worth your while, even make a video about it. The devs deserve all the support in the world and support from a big content creator would mean a lot since they do not have a publisher. I hope to see you in a future video about it. Anyways keep up the good work, been really loving the content you’ve been putting out lately, lots of love

Great review. I had the same reaction and opinions as you, and also decided to get it due to being an Indie game in Early Access with a lot of reviews and falling under Overwhelmingly Positive, which as stated is VERY rare. I think it having such a high rank is precisely due to how the biggest issue with games, nowadays, is Game Design. Companies throw a lot of resources towards Art, coding and even writing (!!!) nowadays, but raw Game Design and its subjectivities (flow, feel, balancing, subjective progression) gets left behind - likely due to to trying to fit projects in a certain box, scope or timeframe. When a game hits this design sweetspot nowadays, it gets positive reviews despite its roughness - which would have completely doomed a game project just a few years ago. Hopefully this trend continues and it becomes easier to find gems as the reviews will reflect the core quality of the game, rather than having games be dumped due to not looking AAA with the budget of 2 dollars and a sandwich.

I love Planet Crafter and this video definitely helped me to put it into words why I do, despite how rough it is around the edges. I think in essence, Planet Crafter is almost more like an incremental game. It gives you that dopamine boost that something like Cookie Clicker does, except in a game you can run around in.

The thing about Planet Crafter, is that there is *never* a time in the game where you are not achieving something, unless you run out of power (which only happens if you place too many power consumption items). There's always a way out (deconstruct whatever you just crafted, or make more power generators if you have available materials). So, anytime you are trying to do anything in the game, you are making progress -- Heat, Pressure, O2 are all going up and so is the TI by extension. So, are you walking around gathering materials? TI is going up and making progress towards unlocking stuff that you can build to get *more* TI. Are you exploring a ship? Are you just walking from place to place? During all of that, you are still making passive progress. The entire game is all about "how can I make that passive progress, Faster?" But the Food and Hunger mechanics are there to make sure you can't just sit AFK in your base and exploit the passive progress without at least some work. Now, later on when you get things like the water collector or water purifiers, and when you get enough Food Growers that you no longer need Space Food, you can just check the game every 5-10 minutes, but progress would be extremely slow without building new stuff because of the way the progress meters actually work. It uses the Metric System, like you start out with TI then you get to kTI, then MTI, then GTI. Sure, ticking up by 0.50 kTI seems fast... until you hit 1 MTI and the meter stops moving all the sudden because it takes 20 seconds to get 0.01 MTI. Also, yes, the rockets stack but they give you diminishing returns so you can't just launch 100 of each rocket and get 50 MTI/sec from just rockets, it doesn't work like that. After about 3-5 rockets it really slows down the gains from each rocket, and at that point the only reason to do them is to get more Uranium/Iridium if you're running low on it. Guess what I'm trying to say is that the game _wants_ to give you reasons to work towards building stuff you just unlocked, and the game makes sure that you won't be using obsolete tech because each tier of items is made in such a way that there's (almost) never a reason to use outdated tech with a few exceptions: 1). Windmills: I use these as markers so I don't get lost as much, marking hard to find stuff, like caves. They're tall and easily seen from a distance and only cost 1 iron. 2). T1 Solar Panels pre-Ore Extractor, because the T2s require aluminum which can be a bit scarce until you get the first ore extractor. Some players complain about how power plants and machines can be placed anywhere in the world, and how that is unrealistic, but I like that mechanic: It removes a lot of busywork of messing with wiring and fiddling with placement, and/or cluttering your base up with lots of ugly machines. I still find myself building machines near my base when I don't need to out of sheer habit but I've been getting better with that lately. It's a very refreshing change from other games of having to worry about having stuff placed in the right places. I think in TPC, the only things that you need to care about where they are placed are the mapping screens (since they only show you a map centered on the screen's location), and anything having to do with water (because, well, duh, you need to put these on the surface of water), and the ore extractor (different locations give you different ores). The rest? plop it down whereever. Make a small shed in various locations and stick heaters and stuff in them to make them an o2 rest stop and a box to store heaters in, lol.

Great video. Sometimes I think, and that might be ignorance, but with UE5 being powerful as is, with a ton of baked in functionality, you could kinda make something alike but it looks great with lighting and all. Especially thinking about the super high res nanite models. Add some weather effects and you have a certified banger lookwise.

Since this review, the game has snowballed in great gameplay mechanics, all of which are paced well and feel both insurmountable yet you are comforted by the fact you learned how to get to that point and overcome it to. And the story is awesome, I won't get into specifics, but it's really weird and cool.
