Planer Maintenance Routine
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Standard planer maintenance routine. The planer shown is a Ridgid 13-inch TP1300LS. www.wtwshop.com/RigidPlaner
The procedures and principles are applicable to most planers, with modifications according to brand and model.
These procedures should not be attempted by anyone who is not already skilled in shop safety. Planer blades are sharp and must be handled with care to avoid injury.
Some of the procedures shown must be duplicated, but are only shown once. For example, one blade and jib are removed; the second is not shown. One table extension is leveled; the other is not shown. In such cases, where it is obvious that the procedure must be done twice, I have only shown it once for the sake of time, since the actions would be identical. It is the viewer's part to understand that the procedure was repeated off-screen.

EXCELLENT video! I have been searching for these instructions for several months. I bought my Ridgid TP1300LS used and the instructions I downloaded simply do not provide the detail the you video does. I'm glad that this video is still available. You have earned my subscription.

Yeah, I didn't know I needed one til I got one. :) Thanks, Eloy.
You have a very good way of putting things across, I found your insructions precise and clear. Having said this I do not own a planer but some of the points I would have thought I could transfer to servicing other items of equipment. Thank you for uploading this film. N.

My pleasure. Thanks for saying so!
Thanks Fred. Great to see the process so I can stop procrastinating. Could you include how to clean and grease the height adjusting screws and gears? Mine have gotten very hard to crank and other than just squirting on grease on the spiral screw, is there anything else I should be doing? I have a Craftsman 13" planer. Your video is very well paced and well done. Thanks. Chris
This was a really good and clear instructional video. I have the same planer that I bought used! It didn't come with a manual. I was pleased after watching this video to discover I also had an extra pair of blades on my outfeed.

Hey Fred! Thanks for the great video! I do have a problem that isn't addressed in this video and I can't find any answers anywhere. My thickness lock is loose which is allowing the planing mechanism move up and down at will depending on the toughness of wood I'm planing. Is there any way to tighten this? Thanks!
Great video. I have the same planer and I'm going through exactly what you did. I still need to wax my table though. Also, good point about adjusting the thickness gage. One problem I'm having that you didn't mention, the carriage lock on the right side of the machine seems to slip. I will lock it in position and after running a board through, I find the hand wheel about a quarter turn tighter after the board goes through. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue? Thanks for all your help. Paul

Hi, paulpaul1948. I haven't had this problem, but since you asked I've researched it a bit. Use this link to open or download a pdf of the owner's manual for the TP13002; that's what mine is. www.ridgidparts.com/pdf/TP13002.pdf Halfway down page 21, a discussion of the carriage lock begins. At the top of page 22 is the subheading, "Carriage Lock Adjustment". The opening paragraph says, "If the carriage lock lever does not tighten when moved to the lock position, follow the steps below to adjust." Follow those steps, and let our readers and me know if that fixes your problem.
