Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 24 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

I seriously needed to hear this from someone: “I dont need to be reading non-fiction all the time, sometimes you are already reading non-fiction all day, because you are studying” - I often forget that my 200 pages for uni a week are non-fiction and that it’s really okay to be burned out

Totally! I hate when people judge me for reading fantasy or romance stuff that is very easy and fast to read. I know these books aren’t classics, I don’t read them because I want to learn I read them because I want to give my brain a break from reading and learning the whole day. A lot of people don’t seem to understand that it is possible to like “shadow and bone” and “anna Karenina” at the same time :)

Just a heads up for Jane Eyre: it's more broody & dramatic than cozy & melancholy. More of a Wuthering Heights vibe than a Pride and Prejudice vibe, if that helps a little.

Exactly. I would never ever describe it as cozy

@@just_ella17 yep, that's for sure. It's also a great book in my opinion, but I just think that if one goes in thinking it's going to be a cute and cozy read, one's going to be very disappointed ahah

What about _Rebecca_ by Daphne du Maurier? I've only seen the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, but hear that they kinda changed the ending, making it more obvious that Mr. & Mrs. de Winter love each other, whereas it's left up to interpretation in the book.
piranesi is honestly one of the best books i've read this year. i'm so happy it won the women's prize for fiction!
I just finished Jane Eyre last week and I really enjoyed it! I'm also not a native speaker but it really wasn't one of the harder books I've read at all, the narrator uses fancy words here and there but even if you don't understand all of them, you're going to be just fine. And the autumn vibes truly were *chef's kiss*

thank you so much that is exactly what I wanted to know !!!! have you read pride and prejudice? Is it readable for non native speakers ?
@just_ella17
2 жыл бұрын
@@julialovesgfriend I'm not a native speaker either and pride and prejudice was one of the first classics I've ever read in English and tbh I didn't really get to enjoy the book. I recently reread it, after having read four more Austen novels and a bunch of different English classics and the expierence was so much better. So I definitely do think that it is manageable and enjoyable for non-native speakers but not if you're a beginner with classics. If you want to try out Austen and maybe get a little used to her writing before going into pride and prejudice I would high key recommend Northanger Abbey. It is a lot shorter than p&p has a smaller cast of characters and is overall less complex, however still super fun and definitely a "core" Jane Austen novel.
Have you read coraline? It is my go to fall movie, but I read the book a couple of years ago. A very creepy childrens book with fall vibes. I recommend it ☺️🍂
Frankenstein is one of my all-time favs; I hope you enjoy! Also, Mary Wollstonecraft is Mary Shelley's mother! Good catch :) Piranesi does have a plot, it just takes a back burner until the middle/end. The beginning aligns us with 'Piranesi' by having us read his journals and fall in love with the House as he does. "Tender is the Flesh" is a really interesting read. I almost DNFed it because it seemed really slow and I didn't care about any of the characters, but the last line was worth the whole book. I can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Thank you for saying fall or spring, I am from Australia and never feel like I match up to seasonal content (even though I love it) but it is so nice to be acknowledged :)

Bunny was so weird. Like I read it as a E-book and would look up from it, and it would be three in the morning and my eyes are on fire. I still cannot fully grasp exactly *what happened* in it, all I know was I was distressed after reading it.

@@Emma-sj6wp Oh yes, it was super weird (but I tend to like that sort of thing I guess). I will say if you go into it expecting more of a horror novel, that's helpful. I think if you go in just expecting just dark academia it could be quite distressing.

The vibe of this vid 😍😍😍 Also pls do a Frankenstein reading vlog. It's one of my faves and I'll be rereading it in October. Would love to hear your thoughts.
@16:58 I heard my favourite quote of the day: “my brain will be chicken nuggets”. This is the perfect analogy for how my brain feels at the end of a busy work day/week 😂
I've been sooo excited to read The Atlas Six!!! So glad you'll be reading it too🖤
I highly recommend spiritfarer for a switch game - it’s also super cozy, has a lot of rainy/stormy atmospheres so perfect for fall and winter. Of course after you finish BOTW though 😂

I just went through a ton of videos about Sept/Oct readathons, and I found a few that overlap really well to help me determine what to read. I'm usually bad at sticking to a plan because I'm such a mood reader, but I was lucky in that a lot of prompts fit books that have been staring at me for a while.
Oh, i'm really excited to hear someone else talk about Piranesi! It's such a great book, it felt like being sucked into a dark and twisted riddle. Loved it so much!
I’m reading The Secret History at the moment and I’m loving it! For some reason I thought it would be a bit intimidating but it’s actually really easy to get through and I’m finding I don’t want to put it down 🍂📚

You have inspired me to start reading again! Thank you and I love your videos!
I absolutely love to see the process of choosing too 🥰 I'm excited for you to (hopefully) read two of my favorites ; Bunny and Annihilation !
I just love watching you, put out a video of you staring at your bookshelves and I'll still watch it the entire time.
Night film is really good and fits the fall aesthetic!

omg no way i’m watching this while planning my school work for the week and i thought the yellow wallpaper sounded interesting but then i saw were reading it this week in my class haha i’m so excited! what a coincidence
yes! i just read frankenstein and actually really love it ! It's drags slightly in the middle, but I still really enjoyed it!
thank you for inspiring me to read again
Yes!! I think you’ll really enjoy Bunny!!!
I really felt that comment of reading in the commute, I walk to and from work; but you bet I use almost every single little moment to sneak some reading to. Specially lunch XD
Loved this video 🥰 Annihilation is one of the best books I’ve read this year, and it’s way better than the movie, hehe 🖤
I'm currently reading Frankenstein!! That edition you have is so beautiful 😍
I like the bananas in the background💛
omg i read The Atlas Six at the beginning of the month and it was sooo good. It is now one of my favorite books.
Omg jade city is so good and the sequel, jade war, is even better!! Can't wait for the last book later this year..
Tender is the flesh is soooo good! And even though it is indeed disturbing, it isn´t really scary, so it´s a good book for non horror readers (I should know lol). Absolutely recommend, currently my top read of the year!
Tender is the Flesh is amazing and the English translation is pretty good too. I definitely recommend giving it a try
I loveeee Jade City!!! You need to read it ASAP since the series concludes this year!! I’m obsessed with the series :)
loved piranesi ! very autumn vibes!!! hope you enjoy it :)
love u organised queen😎😎i always try to plan what i’ll read and end up reading the most random book on my shelf lmao
I highly recommend to read night film, one of my favorites, It's not the typical thriller, It has a mix between horror, creepy and literary fiction, perfect for fall!🎃 and of course you have to continue playing the legend of Zelda BOTW!
I have that Thomas Lagotti book on my TBR list on my shelf as well.
I'm so excited that you're going to read Annihilation! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on how it differs from the movie.
I freaking loved Piranesi! It gave me vibes of House of Leaves and The Night Circus.
I'm reading Jane Eyre for the 2nd time now; it's one of my favorites. I also adored the movie Annihilation and ended up loving the book even more - another one of my faves! :D
BUNNY is literally the best! Perfect and hilarious horror with ALL the dark academia vibes.
I just read, "The Yellow Wallpaper" for one of my classes! It was very interesting and I loved the realistic horror!
I paused reading The Secret History because of the Magical Readathon this month, but I keep thinking about it!💖🍁🍂
i read the atlas six and loved it a lot, i cannot wait for the next book omg HOPE U LIKE IT
I'm reading Piranesi rn and loving it so far 🙌🏽
the secret history is so good i've read it last year but now im starting college in october and i definitely want to reread it because now I'm not in HS anymore so I guess I'm gonna enjoy it even more
Heyy I received The Atlas Six yesterday too!!!
atlas six is the first book that has completely captivated me in years!! i was fully engrossed while reading the entire thing and didn’t want to put it down. the magic system is so unique to me and i love how Blake explores each characters’ relationship to their abilities & to each other. also it’s the first of a planned trilogy!! the second boom is scheduled for fall/winter 2022 so i’m going to be on the edge of my seat for a whole year haha i’d love to hear your thoughts on it after you read it :)
Piranesi is one of my favorite books of the year! Bunny is also an old favorite and it does have some dark academia elements 😅 I liked Tender is the flesh (I thought it had some 1984 vibes) but it was so disturbing
Omg that edition of the Frankenstein is so cool!?
6:24 trueee, how can you say no to that book?? 😫❤❤
You just NEED to read the Southern Reach Trilogy of which Annihilation if the first book. It's all weird but I binged it and I always recommend watching the movie before reading so you can visualize a few of the weirder parts easier. Just go get all three. Go. Now. Also I'd like to recommend The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. You will love.
Hi, yes, sorry I'm late but I LOVED Frankenstein! I really hope you enjoy it also! That edition you have is GORGEOUS! My heart
Beautiful Frankenstein edition you have there! Wish I had that one xo
Great haul! I have that Ligotti, haven't gotten into it yet. Austen and the Brontes are always cozy to me. Piranesi is so very much about the vibes and atmosphere, I really need to read her Strange and Norrell. For fall I'll be trying Stephen Graham Jones who I hear such great things about. I'm starting with Only Good Indians, and My Heart is a Chainsaw just came out I think. Also, I always plug Robert Aickman's short stories which are all spooky, weird, and sometimes beautiful.
oo! yes! i am currently re-reading pride and prejudice and just mm. so good. and definitely not too deep either and i would love to know your thoughts!!!
Frankenstein is my favourite classic so far, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. And for the record, if you want to go for a dark academia read I will honestly point you towards Bunny. The Secret History is a much longer book and it is a little heavier. So for your current mood, and if you want to go easier on yourself, Bunny would be a better choice. I do love both of those books as well, and I hope you enjoy whichever one you choose to read.

I really appreciate anyone that blends the world of books and ASMR. I really hope you'll be willing to help break new authors especially those that blend ASMR into their content in the fantasy/fiction area. Hazelwood is great. OWM
Bunny is soooo good you've got to read it!
I turned 24 this week too! On the 12th :) Happy birthday Leonie!
Your comment about the weather is painfully accurate. I am ever so slightly drowning in library books atm and I just made an overview of what's on my ereader (and it's a small library, oops), and I have a ton of physical books I haven'r read yet and I am Overwhelmed TM. But on a positive note, I am reading a Dutch book I am actually enjoying for once. It's Orakel and it's surprisingly fitting for this weird autumn even though it's set in winter.
You are about to reach the turning point in piranesi where plot kicks in (don’t worry vibes are still maintained). So good! Bunny is definitely fun and weird - it might be good to pair with Frankenstein. Or if you want to go a different route then secret history (on my tbr this fall). Probably a good choice to shelf crime and punishment for now, it’s soooo dense… I also can’t do super dense stuff during school 🤣

I read "A Pho Love Story" back in February and I gave it 3 stars. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I also read it the same month as "A Taste for Love," which was so cute and I loved so much, that "A Pho Love Story" paled in comparison. The best book I read in August was "Caraval" by Stephanie Garber. I love this book and it's a new favorite. Also, "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood is like the cutest romance ever and a new favorite.
I’m not on TikTok but I’ve heard about the Atlas Six, so I bought and IT’S REALLY GOOD. There will be more books on the series, so be aware lol. All of the characters were so interesting, the setting was great, the discussions on philosophy and physics too! 100% recommended. I also have Jane Eyre and, pride and prejudice on my list :)
Hi! Your video’s are so relaxing! I also want to start reading again, laat year being my first year in university was extremely bad for my reading hihi. Groetjes van België 😊
Never would've expected Leonie to be a cosmic horror fan. I've caught a bit of an addiction to it over the past year and just picked up a few short story collections that have been excellent! I recommend Song for the Unraveling of the World by Brian Evenson and The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All by Laird Barron
I read The Secret History last November and I devoured it! I highly recommend it
