Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 24 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

I seriously needed to hear this from someone: “I dont need to be reading non-fiction all the time, sometimes you are already reading non-fiction all day, because you are studying” - I often forget that my 200 pages for uni a week are non-fiction and that it’s really okay to be burned out

Totally! I hate when people judge me for reading fantasy or romance stuff that is very easy and fast to read. I know these books aren’t classics, I don’t read them because I want to learn I read them because I want to give my brain a break from reading and learning the whole day. A lot of people don’t seem to understand that it is possible to like “shadow and bone” and “anna Karenina” at the same time :)

Just a heads up for Jane Eyre: it's more broody & dramatic than cozy & melancholy. More of a Wuthering Heights vibe than a Pride and Prejudice vibe, if that helps a little.

What about _Rebecca_ by Daphne du Maurier? I've only seen the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, but hear that they kinda changed the ending, making it more obvious that Mr. & Mrs. de Winter love each other, whereas it's left up to interpretation in the book.

I just finished Jane Eyre last week and I really enjoyed it! I'm also not a native speaker but it really wasn't one of the harder books I've read at all, the narrator uses fancy words here and there but even if you don't understand all of them, you're going to be just fine. And the autumn vibes truly were *chef's kiss*

@@julialovesgfriend I'm not a native speaker either and pride and prejudice was one of the first classics I've ever read in English and tbh I didn't really get to enjoy the book. I recently reread it, after having read four more Austen novels and a bunch of different English classics and the expierence was so much better. So I definitely do think that it is manageable and enjoyable for non-native speakers but not if you're a beginner with classics. If you want to try out Austen and maybe get a little used to her writing before going into pride and prejudice I would high key recommend Northanger Abbey. It is a lot shorter than p&p has a smaller cast of characters and is overall less complex, however still super fun and definitely a "core" Jane Austen novel.

Frankenstein is one of my all-time favs; I hope you enjoy! Also, Mary Wollstonecraft is Mary Shelley's mother! Good catch :) Piranesi does have a plot, it just takes a back burner until the middle/end. The beginning aligns us with 'Piranesi' by having us read his journals and fall in love with the House as he does. "Tender is the Flesh" is a really interesting read. I almost DNFed it because it seemed really slow and I didn't care about any of the characters, but the last line was worth the whole book. I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

The best book I read in August was "Caraval" by Stephanie Garber. I love this book and it's a new favorite. Also, "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood is like the cutest romance ever and a new favorite.

I’m not on TikTok but I’ve heard about the Atlas Six, so I bought and IT’S REALLY GOOD. There will be more books on the series, so be aware lol. All of the characters were so interesting, the setting was great, the discussions on philosophy and physics too! 100% recommended. I also have Jane Eyre and, pride and prejudice on my list :)

Never would've expected Leonie to be a cosmic horror fan. I've caught a bit of an addiction to it over the past year and just picked up a few short story collections that have been excellent! I recommend Song for the Unraveling of the World by Brian Evenson and The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All by Laird Barron

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books of all time. I personally find it very accessible, more than Jane Eyre. Pride and Prejudice was the first classic and I found it quite easy to read as a non-native speaker of English.

I love Pride and Prejudice too! I re-read it just recently. Have you read Emma by Jane Austen? It's probably my favourite novel of hers.

@@squidwardsthirdtentacle1198 Yes I have. It's my second favourite Jane Austen novel. Pride and Prejudice is my all time favourite though.

If you want a perfect fall book I highly, HIGHLY recommend Revenge by Yoko Ogawa! It's a short story collection (which I normally skip) that I enjoyed soooooo much and it gave all the Halloweeny vibes I wanted! Jade City is on my upcoming tar as well! I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail, hopefully tomorrow.
