I've been making masks with recycled sheets of clear plastic, diy rubber disk valves, and cutting sections from higher-end filters for central air units. I'm strongly considering using this tutorial with a few changes to make a functional plague mask.

I was looking for a tutorial on how to make a plague doctor mask and I found the best tutorial, thank you very much for sharing your ideas and your work, you have a new subscriber.

Contact cement will definitely make gluing your project a lot easier and faster. I also would suggest a heat gun or hair dryer to shape it because that's a lot safer than an open flame. Hot glue is the last thing you want to use on EVA foam and I learned that the hard way.

This looks pretty good. I have a couple of masks to make soon and this is a big help. For anyone else considering making it, I have also found leather paint sticks very well to foam, but I don't know about effects. For just a coat of paint, though, it's strong.

I found this template after I had purchased the materials. I love this template!!! We purchased much stiffer material so we couldn't use just Super-glue alone, but used leather rope to stitch the seams. Too bad I can't post a photo here...

if you are having a hard time with hot glue strings like i am, just use black paracord you cant paint it very well so its not perfect, but the shape is good

Thanks! Use only super glue and glue gun. I use the two glues in this tutorial.

Lost Wax works with a lot of foam, too, and I've seen him use contact cement and hot glue. Hot glue does melt the foam a little, where contact cement doesn't melt but does stink. Both, in my experience, hold well. My first plague doctor mask, held with contact cement, is still together after 6 years of abuse. Neither of those glues are certain to hold metal or glass onto anything, though, should you decide to add any as trim.

This is a really cool project (I loved the gasmask project too) but how do you breathe in these masks? They both seem a bit "closed" to be worn for more than a couple of minutes.

I made this mask for 049 j beacose I think 049 have more like porcelain mask

The patterns were very useful, although too small for my head. I made a bad hash of gluing the foam together so it's not nearly as neat as in the video. The accelerator I have made the glue expand quite a bit - did you use liquid or gel CA?. I was completely unable to make the hot glue work as neatly as in the video- strings everywhere and big globs instead neat dots and crosses. Could your gun be hotter than mine? It was a complete mess. I scanned the patterns and made new illustrator and Photoshop files for them if anyone wants a set, just dm me. I was able to cut the thinner pieces on my Cricut, and cut a cardboard template for the thicker pieces likewise. I'm amazed you made it look so easy :)

it's a type of fabric, it's called foam
