Pixel Buds Pro: What worked (and what didn't)

Ғылым және технология

The Pixel Buds Pro finally bring proper active noise cancellation to the Google Assistant enabled earbuds -- but is the final result enough to take on some of the top performing competitors? As it turns out, the Pixel Buds Pro have a few other tricks up its sleeve, and everything together makes for a pair that might not be the best, but definitely do the most. Here's what worked (and what didn't) with the Pixel Buds Pro!

Great review. I also use the Comply Foam tips and found them to be a much better fit than the silicone tips that came with the Pixels. I think you're spot on on just about everything except I loved the sound of these buds. Compared to my airpod Pros and my Beats Studio Buds these have a much more balanced and full sound. I find this even at the highest volume. They are clean. The only earbuds I like better are my Fiio FH7s but those are wired and about $200 more. These are keepers for sure. I can even sleep in them.

In my opinion, these are by far the best headphones on the market, not because they're the best. In terms of comfort, they are definitely the best. The transparency mode is kind of scary. ANC is perfect because unlike AirPods it's not super strong to where it gives me a headache and the Pixel bus cancel out about 95% of noise I think that's the sweet spot. The volume is definitely louder than the Pixel buds from 2019 which is basically all I was asking for plus ANC. And finally, the Google Assistant on the Pixel buds is vastly superior than any other assistant on headphones which is vastly understated by the tech community. All in all, this is a premium set of earbuds! And a great video 👍🏾!

Did you honestly use them or have a point of comparison? I used many different earbuds and currently own the pixel buds pro and they're really not worth the price. Transparency modus is okay, nowhere near airpods or sony wh1000xm5 (overear I know) The noise cancellation blocks just bit of white noise, again airpods, sony wf m4, sennheiser momentum all do way better- not even beginning to compare to the whm5 The fit is for my ears not stable at all (tried every eartip and settings tell me that the seal is good) - heard other reviewers say it doesn't feel too secure neither Mics are okay not bad But the worst has to be the audio quality. Lots of bass and no clarity or seperation/nuance whatsoever. Most disappointing were fit and sound quality - the two most important areas imo. I saw the wf1000xm4 for 144$ on black friday, and most of the time they're the same price. If you don't care about the mic and the sony fit you they're insanely better and so are many other products like airpods, sennheiser momentum, jabra, powerbeats pro and maybe even the libratone track air. I regret the buying decision based on reviews of people who have no idea about audio but I'll have to deal with it

I have a feeling you’ve never owned or even tried the AirPod Pro 2’s. Personally I think the APP 2’s are SUPERIOR in nearly every way possible. I will say I prefer the LOOK of the PBP’s however outside of that I don’t think it’s even close. I also obviously prefer the price of the PBP’s….that said I think you get what you pay for.

@@-jg9pi I too question how he arrived at his opinion. Admittedly I have only personally owned/tried both the Pixel Bud Pro’s and the Apple Airpod Pro 2’s. Now having said that, idk how ANYONE would pick the PBP’s over the AirPod Pro 2’s unless it was STRICTLY A FINANCIAL DECISION!! Otherwise, in EVERY OTHER AREA (except for aesthetically speaking) like ANC, transparency mode, and DEFINITELY SOUND QUALITY the AirPod Pro 2’s are SUPERIOR IMO. I’m NOT an audiophile by any means, I just know what sounds good/great to me and what sounds OK.

@@ProudBostonian I'm not a fan of apple products and I have to totally agree with you. As soon as you listen to something at higher volumes the pixel buds distort a lot- that's why they don't get too loud. But tbf I noticed that every other time the pixel buds pro don't connect properly to the device (i use a pixel 6) - and that stereo seperation doesn't work correctly then. It's hard to notice if you don't have a reference but you have to disable and enable bluetooth then and then it sounds way better (but still not as good as the airpods pro 2)

Great review Joshua. I almost returned mine because I keep hearing how great the ANC and sound quality are on the XM4s, but I also hear their touch controls are less than stellar. Google implemented touch controls so well on these that I don't think I could really use another pair of earbuds. Having volume, sound modes, playback controls and hold for Assistant all in one without having to give up any controls like on the XM4s, Google has spoiled me.

Great review and mostly sums up my sentiments. For me, the fit was not great and I ended up needing the Comply tips to get these to stay in my ear. The Google Assistant implementation is great - happy that even my WhatsApp messages get read to me and I can respond to them. Sound quality beats my 3 year old Jabra Elite Pro 65Ts in terms of richness but Jabras were much better for ANC and transparency mode; the Google Pixel Buds Pro transparency mode seems to magnify the noise instead of just passing it through. Overall great earbuds and review.

Informative. Thank you. I've got a few questions that i haven't yet found answers to: Do you ever get unintended activation of the touch controls? Will hats or long (maybe damp) hair trigger things you don't want? What actions tend to result? Can you adjust the fit with your fingers without triggering actions? How reliably do the buds connect to charge when you put them in the case? How can you tell if they're charging? How quickly can you find out the charge level of each earbud? Can you set a volume limit to protect your hearing from listening too loud?

Nice review, but have you tried out the multipoint feature. It is killer. I usually use it when I'm working on my windows laptop. When I get a phonecall on my phone it auto pauses what I'm watching and instantly rings to my phone to answer the call. When I'm finished with the call I pressed play on the laptop and it started playing through my earbuds. I paused the video I was playing and kept the earbuds in my ears, went outside to do some gardening and turned on music on my phone and it instantly started playing. The gap it filles in the need to manually pause something or manually switch between devices is such a pleasure and I'm surprised it does this so well. Alot of people say the price is a bit too high but for that QOL feature along with everything else with the pixel buds is perfect for me.

I just got the Google Pixel Buds Pro on Amazon Prime Early Access day for $150 (usually $200). I was surprised by the ANC because things like my fan by my desk became pretty much silent. I also liked how these buds felt like they went deeper in me ears, creating a better seal and felt better when I was laying down in my bed. Overall, the Pros had better sound quality, louder and better bass boost (I use the included EQ for bass boost). Not only did I really like the ANC I also really liked the transparency mode as well. Coming from the Google Pixel Buds (gen 2, 2020), I noticed that at first the Pro Buds felt worse in my ears for a couple seconds but I quickly became used to their fit and feel. Next Google product for me to buy is the Pixel Watch (If it has a good sale on Black Friday 🤞).

Beware, if you use Pixel Pro Buds for extended periods of time, they can cause outer ear canal damage. I cleaned them before each use with alcohol prep wipes but this did not help.I loved the features of the Pixel Pro Buds, but ultimately had to stop using them due to micro-tears to the skin in and outside the ear canal, they are just too bulky. I normally can use any type of ear buds so this was a disappointment.

I was really excited about these, but was disappointed after a couple of weeks. The sound is exceptional, but volume isn't very high, I find myself just below max. Calling is decent, but most the time it's only in one ear, and sometimes in two, but rare. Every once in a while calling will disconnect but everything else will stay connected. The Samsung bud overall I was a lot happier with other than not staying in my ear very well. So I will probably return the Google buds and purchase Samsung, again.
