Pixel Art Sprite Timelapse | Shizuka Mikazuki (Zom 100)

Фильм және анимация

I've been watching Zom 100 and naturally want to see the characters in pixel form, so let's try with Mikazuki! I walk through the sprite creation process and share a few things about translating the character features into a pixelated design.

the way the sprite evolved at the end is so cool. It turned out absolutely amazing, the colours are so nice and the black outline pixels are placed perfectly

What a great character design! It's always fun seeing different takes on characters with an iconic element like that jacket 🤩 I think it worked well in your style of pixel art! That was a neat detail on the nose and the shading on the further side of the face too, it does a good job at portraying that face profile 😁

Thanks! Yeah the shading fell into place nicely for this 3/4 view; wonder how that'd work at other angles 😄 Translating this particular design got me thinking about trying more interesting looks when designing characters; I tend to approach it from the pixel first and would probably never go for such a "complex" jacket design but I like how it came out 😌

Thanks so much, your a HUGE inspiration for me right now!

This kind of art is always so fascinating to me. I don’t think my brain works in the same way yours does with having to illustrate everything in such a confined way. Would love to see a video of you trying to make your own minecraft skin and how you would deal with having two layers to work with.

5:40 I prefer second to last sprite. Because in the final version skin shading color to similar to her top and the blend together. And because you overall brighten the colors there less contrast so when it`s show small-ish its hard to understand where something starts and ends. But changing jacket line from blue to purple looks good.

I've started letting photopea choose my colours for me. I make a collection of sprites in various different colours with absolutely no care, then reduce the colours all the way down to 8 or 10. Similar colours then merge together, the colours I used most take over, and the ones I used least get replaced. I then pick out those 8-10 colours for my pallet and use it for all aditional art.

I'm more of a black outline guy, but I've tried doing color for the line art, and I can never find a good color that fits. Great video, I really love when you do character pixel art. (Although I also love when you upload any kind of pixel art. 🤔)

Awesome ! Not an easy thing to do with all those layers of color/clothing but looks great. Ha, that's the thing about pixel art - half of it is creating, and the other half is problem solving right!? I've started to shade the outlines of my stuff also now much more which really brings a whole new depth to things. It's just like when you look at the really good comic artists and they use the outline as both a border and part of the shading. I know you know, I'm just saying personally speaking ☺️ That took me a while to get my head around..

I still have a hard time doing my own art, i was wondering. In 3d people sometimes do like body types, and have that available to start. Follygon even sells modmesh to make your own out of parts. Would it be a good idea to have like. a document with body types, heads, styles, basically sillouette premade, you can assemble and then work on top afterwards ?
