The fact that coco remembering her father and his song after being sung to is backed by science makes me love this movie even more. Alzheimers and dementia patients have shown increased cognition and memory retrieval after singing familiar songs, and songs are often the last thing to go. Being the granddaughter of an end stages alzheimers and dementia patient, this movie ripped out my heart. It released around the same time as my grandma's major decline, and I saw a lot of mama coco in her. She even used to put her hair in pigtails. Love you grams 💜

Hi Rachel! My great grandma passed away at almost 101 years old, and the only things she remembered about were the songs she used to sing with her dad when she was little, like you said. Everytime she sung these songs my great granny had some sort of flashback, and for a tiny little time she was able to remember about her kids and us nephews. I think because those were the same songs she also sung to me, my mom and my grandma, there probably was this sort of connection. I'll forever cherish my great grandma Elsa's memories, I keep a pic of us in my room to remember everyday about her🥰

I love how clever it was. Sung one way it's about some vain celebrity wanting to be adored by his fans. Sung the way it was written it was a father wanting his daughter to always know how much he loves her, even while he couldn't always be there for her, and it changes the entire emotional oomph of the song.

8:03 Also I think Miguel was so wrapped up in the idea that his great-great-grandfather could be his idol that he didn't hear how miserable Mama Coco was sounding when she was saying "Papa! Papa!" It's been at least 90 years since it happened and she's still hurt and sad that he left her.

As much as Coco’s death is sad as it’s supposed to be, I find it actually happy. She rejoined with her father as both always wanted to. So, telling to be glad that she died without sounding heartless and cruel is definitely possible. Yes, we’ll miss her. But after being through this deadly adventure, we now all know the death may be the best thing that happened to Coco after all these decades.
Gurl when you said" even tho I hate him I can't lie he sounds amazing" gurl same😫💅
Actually Hector had a full right to be mad at Miguel. He agreeded to help him get to Ernesto because he was presumably the only relative Miguel had to be able to take him back home. Miguel lied to him. Hector wasn’t asking much when he asked Miguel to just simply put his photo up. Miguel lied about having other relatives. Hector is endangered of fading and therefore never getting to see his daughter again. Miguel knew that and still risked it. His desire to play music is understandable, but not at the risk of someone else. Miguel is free to risk his life, not Hector’s. Even if Hector did mostly only agree to help just to have his photo up, he didn’t endanger or lied (intentionally) to Miguel. Miguel had no right to act as if Hector was the only selfish one, or being more so.

Also, he didn't want Miguel to make the same mistake he did by running away from his family. That's why he said, "You'll thank me later.".
The scene at the climax where he sings to his great grandma is still one of their greatest tearjerkers imo. Not just because of the stuff with her and her dad, but also because you see how his grandma had always just been trying to protect her mother from something that caused her pain. The inter-generational trauma really does it.
The way they low key danced together💀💀 Bro got forgot forever😂
Literally saw it and it’s so emotional and quiet and cried so much at the end the grandma died. It turned into a happy man who he was following actor was the boys uncle.
When Disney is original I love it. Coco is one of those. It tackles another culture, it hits home with your family wanting to keep you from doing something and learning more about your family and yourself. I love Coco, it always hits me in the feels.
The cat at the end is Pepita in her earthly form - like Dante, she can move between worlds. The novelization says that in life she was Mama Imelda's pet cat, and since then has returned occasionally to watch over the family.

The reason Dante made it to the spirit world is because, he ate the sacrifice that was meant for Miguel`s family. This is why Miguel appeared in the spirit world, because he stole the guitar.

Being Mexican American, this movie perfectly captures my culture and preparations for El Dia De Los Muertos (The Day Of The Dead). How we decorate the altars, the music, the lore behind the celebration, everything. Also, Dante is a breed of dog called a Xoloitzcuintli (Zoh-loh-eats-QUEENT-ly) or a Xolo, for short. According to the lore of the Day Of The Dead, Xolos were guides to the underworld. Also, a slap from a sandal or Chancla hurts, specifically on bare skin. That's why they're so feared in Mexican culture, especially when they're wielded by an elder.

The song 'La Llorona' from what I can tell is about someone singing about their love for a woman who is always weeping, talking about what he goes through just to see her, and how he will never stop loving her. The folklore mythic figure of 'La Llorona' however is a completely different story. A beautiful young woman married a man and had two children with him. Her life (most versions of the story say) was good until one day her husband abandoned her for another, younger woman. In her rage, humiliation and heartbreak, she wanted to hurt him by taking something precious from him, so she took their children to the river and drowned them both in a fit of rage. When it was done however, she came to her senses and realised in horror what she had done, trying to wake them but it was too late. In her misery she drowned herself. Now every night she wanders around that river (or any river) weeping and wailing "Oh my children! Where are my children?" And the folklore is also that if she sees any child wandering about by itself at night, she'll mistake him or her for her own child, and will take them to the river as well to try and replace the ones she lost, never realising they're not her children until it's too late.

Yes and the Haunting of Bly Manor’s “Lady of the Lake” seems at least partially based on the story of La Llorona too
dude, when i saw you watching the remember me scene i cried, and then i went back to that part and cried AGAIN
All the funny sounds that you made where when they were fighting is just wow just wow they literally had noodles on the floor.😂
Anyone who's into Frida Kahlo can confirm that the scene at 16:08 is the most accurate thing ever
33:58 me to girl me to
Do you know why you never cried in this movie even though I was gonna cry? It’s because I cried 50 times today so I can’t cry anymore. I’m not going to explode.
22:57 not the roasting 😂😂😭😭
This movie touched a nerve of mine which is still painful, I cried as I've never cried watching anything else, when the mom put Coco's photo on the shelf my heart broke. One of the most emotional Disney movie ever created
I always tear up at "Remember Me" remembering my own Nana who had Alzheimer's and dementia, still thinking she was in Florida, or Canada, having dreams of visiting her late husband, talking about raising my grandmother, she was a bit of an artist, who would nit these beautiful blankets and table spreads which my grandmother has given me she was a nurse up until around her late 80s when she broke her hip and started going downhill
Not Rukiya jamming out at the beginning! 😂😂
Jeez, that old woman is rlly serious abt music, like calm down 🙌
Rumours of Coco 2, have been announced but I’m not sure how they could do any better than the first movie, the moods and the music was perfect. I still myself cry when he sings to his Grandmother fantastic movie.

This movie was an emotional rollercoaster with plot twists leaving you confised but later the tears will come down or flow. This movie touched our hearts and really related to some of us viewers. I highly recommend it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
coco was the only movie to make me cry or at least only animated movie
What is shocking to this day for me is that he (Ernesto) made a movie based on what happened in real events where he killed off the person that pretty much wrote the music (Hector) and still made millions of dollars off it

@@SusanaCanales1 I think they are referring to how in Coco, Ernesto made a movie that became a classic but it was actually the story of how he killed Hector. I don't think that they were referring to real life.
Not me still crying after seeing this movie multiple times, knowing what was coming 😭

That was me when editing this video 😭 I kept getting emotional near the ending even tho I knew what happened 🫠🫠
i watch this movie so many times and not once did it make me stop crying❤
Dante is a hairless dog in Mexican culture they are like a really, really really popular dog😊 I also watch this with my little cousin when his family used to live at our house, and he climbed over to my bed and we both were hugging and crying so much.
