    Hey, I was wondering whether you knew Moral Orel? It’s really an underrated masterpiece that is really too often overshadowed by other shows, and no one really talks about it, even though there is so much to say… I know it’s not really the style of content you usually make, but I’m sure you would love it, and that plenty of people would enjoy a video on it :)

    A lot of people don't care about the actual message of the movies they watch. They 'get the feels' about something in it - in this case, the prologue of Up - and their personality revolves around that feeling, like the moon around the Earth. And since they have no deeper feelings about the matter, nor anything more substantial in their life that they feel devoted to, that feeling is something they will protect with aggression. Even - no, especially - against better judgment. That, or someone who felt that way told them to have this opinion about Carl's Date, and they lacked the self determination to say "no, I don't feel this way at all".

    I've always seen the "baby" part of the scene a little differently. The babies in the clouds was Ellie telling Carl she's pregnant, but she ends up learning she miscarried in the hospital scene. It just makes more sense to me for it to have happened this way with them setting up the nursery (instead of "jumping the gun") and having never adopted (the trauma and loss of miscarriage never goes away for some women, believe me I know this personally). You can miscarry sometimes without know it (I did). Sometimes it's going to a check up and getting "We can't find a heartbeat" from the doctor. I feel like that's what happened to Carl and Ellie in that scene. But this could also just be my own experiences colouring the scene. I'll see myself out 😅

    I think that you are right about hospital scene. I probably have 10 years, when i see this movie first time. But in this time i think about this. I only interpret clouds, in the different way. (I don't write nothing more personal to you, because i don't know, how you feel with this all...)

    I heard from Reddit that Ellie's miscarriage and infertility it due to lead paint from the house. Copy and paste information below. "Prior to 1940 around 87% of homes used lead based paint Lead exposure can cause reproductive problems in human reproductive systems by messing with hormones. By playing in a home built prior to 1940 that was clearly in disrepair and then remodeling that home themselves both Ellie and Carl were likely exposed to a significant amount of lead dust and paint particles containing lead. Sadly, that acute lead exposure rendered Ellie infertile."

    A lot of responses seem to be along the lines of 'the problem is the idea that you have to be in a relationship to be happy', and I agree that that's a problem in our society; but at the same time, going on one date doesn't automatically equate to being in a serious relationship. There's no telling if Carl will ever remarry, or do anything beyond meeting people for dinner sometimes, but the point is that his mental health has recovered enough for him to feel like trying!

  • @Cheezbuckets

    @Cheezbuckets

    Жыл бұрын

    Sometimes, for some people in some parts of their life, going on dates is just a part of having a social life. Doesn’t mean they’re desperate for romance or they feel a deep, emotional connection with the people they go on dates with, it’s just a part of going out and meeting new people and forging connections and having fun for them. Not everyone wants to go out and hang out with groups of friends or just hang out with the same handful of people you’re already comfortable with all the time, sometimes it’s just part of socializing to go out to dinner or coffee or a movie with someone you think is cute and enjoy flirting with. Even if Carl isn’t going to make a habit out of doing that, making a personal connection with someone on a one-on-one level is pretty in character for someone who we’ve seen since he was a child is somewhat shy and probably doesn’t enjoy large social groups, so going on a date is just evidence of him becoming more socially active while staying on a level he’s comfortable with.

  • @morinomajou

    @morinomajou

    @buchelaruzit Yeah! I’m aroace as well, and the vibe I got from it was that, since Carl’s prior romantic history consisted of one extremely serious relationship that developed from a childhood friendship, he probably never had the chance to try going on a casual date before. So the romantic aspect isn’t really the point, so much as him seeking new experiences, and I feel like Ellie would thoroughly approve of that!

    Ayyy fellow aro people who get it. Romance is so engrained in us subconsciously that for years we often feel like we HAVE to be in a relationship to be happy. When I told my mother every time I envisioned my future I didn't see anyone else in it, she called it sad. But, why do I need to be married with kids to have a happy future? To be honest, the idea of there being controversy around a widowed character dating again is just baffling to me. And I've never understood the idea that "true love" can only happen once. Sometimes, marriages don't work out. Other times, one partner dies. And both of these are sad & take time to adjust to, especially the latter. But that doesn't mean you can never love again. It's also possible to love multiple people romantically, & falling in love again after being widowed does not mean you love your late partner any less.

    I didn't even realise this would be a controversy tbh. I get that there's an argument that he doesn't need a relationship to be happy again and then there's the bitter side where people could argue he's just replacing who he lost but I don't think either of those are the case. He's putting himself out there, he's socialising, he's connecting, a big step in pushing through grief and loss is being around other people again. It's making friends, maintaining relationships, and finding joy in making the most of what you have left. It doesn't matter if this develops into a serious thing or not, what's important is that he doesn't keep isolating himself in the miserable way he had after Ellie died. Pixar didn't forget or minimise her, they're showing how Carl can grow now that she's gone.

    My grandma passed away recently but when watching this It struck a cord with me because it reminded me of her final months here on earth. I know Pop missed her a ton, but about 15 years ago he started dating again- he made the mistake of marrying his rebound so that didn't end well, but old man's got game. He got out there and has had many partners since- he even gave my dad (his grandson) advice on how to get over his divorce, talking about how he can still try again after a lifetime marriage then he can try again after a 20 year marriage. He's had a new steady girlfriend (she calls herself his ladyfriend) for the last few years in the assisted living facility he's in and the whole family is happy he's happy. I like seeing Carl as it reminds me of my own loved ones but also makes me feel more at peace with my own future. People in real life can be like Carl, they can be like Pop. People feel like romance has an age limit, that if you are over a certain age you either are married already or gonna be single until you die. People are weirded out for some reason by elderly people finding love again, dating, having "adult fun time", etc. They think the only love elder people need and want is platonic or familial (and while it can be and there is nothing wrong with that), that isn't always the case and assuming that should be so is weird and frankly really silly.

    Good for her. Did your grandfather pass, or did they split? I think that people are just scared of change because they value stability, and getting a new step-dad when it’s been 60 years of a stable marriage, can be a little shocking to the system. Honestly it’s preferable than my situation where my grandfather on my mom’s side where there’s a lot of unresolved tension between the family. Which is a little sad, because my father’s side has a very stable family of working class nerds. Well now they are engineers and businessmen, but my grandfather was a welder. But they are all on the other side of the country. I love my grandfather and mom’s family, I just hope they are okay. But considering how they are as people I don’t see that changing. Unfortunately my personality makes me so that I point out the problems that everyone wants to ignore, and I might not be able to hold it in any longer. But in all honesty it’s getting a lot better recently as my aunt’s newish husband is such a great person. I don’t want to get into anything, but I think that the grandkids starting to move out has made it so that they can talk this stuff without worrying about us.

There is something about seeing the gender, that is supposed to be emotionless and strong, being completely broken and sad, but eventually managing to overcome it, that speaks to me. Especially if they manage to overcome the lose by finding a new love, whether platonic or romantic one.

    If my spouse died I don’t think I’d find another. Just my personal belief. So I understand the argument that a person doesn’t NEED a romantic partner, and I think more media needs to show that being single can be perfectly great. And I also understand the fear of loved ones being replaced. Especially if say you’re a kid and your parent remarries after your other parent dies. It’s a valid concern imo. But I also understand the other side. People need to heal. That doesn’t mean forgetting or replacing who we lost. People deserve to find happiness again. I think Ellie would support him in this, and we should too.

    Life is too short. If you can be loved in this world. Be loved. The loved one you lost will always be with you. They are no longer physical beings. You can talk to them whenever. Just make sure it's in your head to not come off as crazy. They'll hear you. Now you find a new treasure. Your loved one will be watching over you happy that your happy. You're not replacing the love you had. You'll always had that. But instead your adding love.

    @@jg3000 I appreciate your perspective and kindness! Personally, one partner is enough for me. If he’s still in my heart and I’m talking to him and he can hear me, then I’m not sharing myself with anyone else. I can find happiness, and love and be loved outside of a romantic relationship. I mean, this is if my partner died. If he say, cheated and we divorced? Then you bet I’ll be looking for a new love elsewhere! Haha

She loved UP, but I couldn't bare to think about it because of the montage and how it reminded me of her. I even have the grape soda bottle cap. But your words saying talking about the adventure never was the future or what we plan but instead the one we already experienced made me feel better about everything. Sure, I wanted to marry her and start a family with her but the laughs and fun times we had was all I really needed. So thank you, this helps me with my grief.

    Now that ya mention it, it IS kinda weird to me that Carl and Ellie didn't end up adopting a kid. I get it. Not every family that ends up being confronted with infertility _will_ want to adopt.. But it's still a very valid and beautiful way to solve that problem if anyone so chooses. Ellie didn't really seem like the type who would refuse to adopt, so I can only guess that Carl might've been the reason they didn't, preferring to either have a child that was related to them, or not have a child at all. Since later in his old age, Carl is sort of forced to take care of a kid he wanted nothing to do with, only to realize that you can still find family that isn't _genetically_ related to you. I dunno though, maybe I'm just reading into it too much.

    I think people who are unhappy about this haven‘t moved on from Ellie. Her and Carl were portrayed as the perfect love, as soulmates, as the sort of everlasting connection many people crave. So they „insert“ themselves in Carl and wish this perfect love would come back. Honestly, I feel the same way, but the truth is, Ellie isn‘t coming back. Carl can‘t have this connection with her anymore, the only thing left are precious memories. So seeing him try to find love a second time is so bittersweet, because this is now full on confirmation that this chapter of his life is over, that the perfect love story is over. And even if his next girlfriend isn‘t Ellie, he‘s allowed to meet someone new and share a special bond with them.

    Honestly the opening of Up is the best short film in the history of mainstream cinema. The hour long sequel is pretty good too. Honestly it’s pretty crazy that Pixar has been putting short films in mainstream cinemas by just adding it to a movie before the movie starts (not referring to Up opening in this case, but the shorts before most Pixar films)

I think we need more stories that tell us it's okay to move on, that finding a new partner when we're ready, if we ever become ready, is okay and doesn't mean we love our deceased partner any less. Also, I always found old people finding love to be cute.

    I do think there is something to be said about people finding happiness by remaining single after a partner's death, but I think in the end it has to be that person's choice. Whether to date again, or remaining single. So long as they're healthy and happy, that's what matters. In my case, my mother died of cancer. My father, who just turned 57 this year, has been without my mom for two years. Before her death, they had been in a relationship for over thirty years, and raised me together. They had known each other since they were teens. My father wants to remain single, as he felt my mom was his soulmate. Plus, he honestly just... doesn't have an interest in dating. I support this decision, just as I would support him if he did decide he wanted to date someone. it'd be a little weird after only seeing him with my mom all these years, but what matters to me is that he's happy.

On the other hand though, it kind of gives me the vibe that you "need" romantic love to be happy and that isn't true, at least not for all people. I'm still happy for Carl that he could find new love. After all, that doesn't mean he replaces Ellie.

    Like he still cares for Ellie but he deserves to be happy and try to move on especially being alone can affect a lot of older people and he is clearly getting more happy after being Russel's basically his grandpa and doug being a campaign wich is especially relevant as a lot of old people will have dogs as a campaign. And it's clear that time has some what passed. Heck Russel is basically fulfils Ellie's dream of having a child and he has a similar engery to Ellie when she was a child.

    Well... My grandpa and grandma had a similar story. Fell in love, had dreams, built their own cottage, but my grandma got horribly ill at 61, 2 types of pancreatic cancer at once. After their long happy marriage was tragically cut short 4 years later, after her long fight ended, he was broken. I did my best for my grandpa, but nothing consolled him. He tried to move on by clinging to someone else, and she ended up getting him killed. This is the tragic version of what should be a lesson of; it's okay to move on in your life. Your love can be shared. I don't think people even from the truest of love stories should be barred from loving again.. just be careful who you give it to

The story of up just always reminds me of my grandma and grandpa cause they’ve been married for like 55 years at this point and both of them are still going on adventures and having fun together, and it’s just always nice to see

  • @thatstheteasis5072

    I think people just want to believe in the fairytale, Disney princess kind of love. Where you find your soulmate, get married, have kids (or don't), and grow old together. UP is a great movie because it destroys that unrealistic fairytale people trick themselves into believing marriage is. It shows that even after you find your "soulmate", life isn't perfect. There's still going to be things you need to overcome and marriage is not the end of your story. Not everyone dies at the same time as their spouse, in fact it's more common for one to die before the other. Does anyone want that? No, but life never promised to give you everything you want and UP is a great portrayal of life not always going the way you planned. In short. Up is a great story that gives people a little taste of reality and reminds us that life keeps going so we should keep having adventures no matter what.

    tbh before I started this video, I thought that having a continuation from up, a movie that came out 14 years ago, wouldve been bad because i think for everyone who grew up with this film, they would just want this movie to fade out slowly and live on in memory, and for me personali I agree with this, but you also said something in this video that also makes alot of sense, that the whole plot is moving on, love and forgiveness, while I did like the idea of carl living on peacufuly with russel and doug for the rest of his days, the idea of him trying to find happiness again even just for a short while is just as sweet

    My mom started dating a year after my dad died. Believe me, I understand being upset. But I also understood over time that my mom wanted to be a wife again and to be happy. Some people remain happy having just the memories of the person who loved them until they were taken from them. Others don't want to be alone and left with memories. I think it's definitely on an individual basis. No one is obligated not to date or marry once the person they are married to is gone forever.

People feel love differently, what works for one, does'nt work for the other but thats also why we need to find suitable partner with similar love values.
