The Pitzen Knot created by E. Pitzenbauer from Germany. Also referred commonly as the 16-20 Knot and the Eugene Bend, but most commonly referred to the Pitzen Knot. Find out “How To” tie another great fishing knot. Join us this week in our episode of the Ultimate Fishing Knot Guide. This is another great evolution of the clinch knot, it’s a great knot and provides a great technique for securing the tag end. Find out whether this knot is as good as a German Pilsner, well on a hot day possibly not 😊. Hand placement and finger position may be cumbersome when learning this knot but with some practice this technique can be used in a few fishing knots.

95% straight line strength. After tying, pull the knot away from the hook eye and you now have a loop knot, it slides back tight when you hook up. This is a Hangman's Noose with three and a half wraps.
Close to the cousin knot called the San Diego jam knot which is better for the 2 cinch areas compared to 1
The double pitzen looks rather strange because youve got three tag ends when you cut it,but its a killer knott!
I always tie what ive known as the double pitzen

Agreed most knots are stronger when doubled on certain lines types and certain knot configurations. I have got most of the doubled versions on my to do list for testing. Thx and tightlines
How does this knot perform, looks like it has a lot of slack in it?

We will be testing this knot in about a weeks time, there is excess line wrapping on the outside of the knot, we will find out if this causes issues.

This is very similar to the San Diego jam knot, only lacking the pass through the loop near the hook before going through the loop on the other end. This allows it to form a little better than the San Diego jam knot which always has a full strand running outside the barrel portion of the knot. It will be interesting to see how these compare.

He tied it wrong. You need to pull the tag end as well.

Uni knot is less bulky and easier to tie.
At the end of the day, it's just a single line in the hook. Palomar is the best
That's not a pitzin knot it's a clinch knot
This knot stinks. It may be a great strong knot offshore. But if you use it in rivers, lakes or creeks with grass, the tag in pointing toward the reel will catch grass, covering your hook or jig. Just my opinion 😊

Agreed, it is not the best knot. Blanket weed is painful stuff for sure. The Tag end really does come off at the worst possible angles when cinched.
bull crap , Gerald swindle has been promoting this knot for 25 years
