On May 26, 1546 Pitigliano was the scene of a duel that caused a great uproar at the time of the events...... the two well-known captains Giovanni Taddei, a Florentine noble and Ascanio Della Corgna, lord of Castiglione del Lago, challenged each other; for the.....................................

Love these towns, and Italy has so many! Not overrun with tourists. The narrow winding up and down stairs/lanes between the old buildings. Like a maze. And the panorama from the top, WOW! Nice that you met some cats along the way, the ginger that you could pet is like my cat. Love the drone video, as usual, excellent, Riccardo!👍👍

I always thought you were on a segway, I just now saw in the shadow that you use a camera on a stick! Wow, such steady shots when walking and going up steps, amazing!

Oh glad you liked that result Cbear K. During my first year of filming I wasn't using anything special and hence, that's why the videos were so "wobbly" with that irritating up-and-down movement. I then started digging in finding a solution and came up with a kind of stabilization system under the selfie stick which eliminates (mostly) that movment! I truly hate that movement when watching these kind of videos so... Sometimes in crowdy towns I don't use it though, as it's rather heavy and bulky, but the difference are indeed quite something) Glad somebody can recognize this and appreciate it!

@@StillWanderer Aww, its so nice to hear from you! So many channels stop replying to comments these days so its truly a lovely surprise ^_^ Thank you for explaining how that works with the stabilization from the selfie stick, I was truly in awe when I saw you go up the steps and I was like wait...hes not on a segway! Then I saw the shadow and reflection of the stick and my mouth hit the floor lol. Just incredibly well done. Your videos are one of the most peaceful corners of youtube, and a grand adventure for those of us who will never make it to these wonderful places. Wishing the very best!

Up until 3 years ago we were just a couple with such channels, but I see that nowadays there are tens or hundreds even... (!). Wish you a nice week ahead and a big ciao from near Rome Riccardo

@@cbeark Hi Chelsea, thank you so much for the sub and very happy (actually a lot!) to read such a message...Indeed, sometimes the "men behind the cameras" can be visible, but sometimes, as in my case, they are the "shadows" seen from time to time when the sun lights approach from some angles :) I truly hope to visit the USA one day, hopefully not too far away in time and a big ciao from a tiny town a few kms south of Rome where it's now snowing (quite weird for us). Why did that woman come out onto the street, walk several feet one way to dump her water to run to the drain the other way? Why didn't she just dump it straight into the drain in the first place? (22:00). There must have been a reason. Riccardo, all this beautiful town and I'm curious about a woman and her water bucket.

Dark smudges are visible on the pavement and the woman washed them off with a solution of detergent. Apparently the smell is not very pleasant. Perhaps her dog is to blame? :)

Very nice tour. Thanks. Pity you didn't show us the synagogue and the Jewish quarter. Jews lived there before Christianity. On WW2 the Italian locals hid the Jews of the city after the Germans took over. Well, I intend to visit there, especially for this purpose.

Thank you Shmuel! Indeed, I wanted definitely to film more in the Jewish quarter and Synagogue but as I saw that there was a queue and a person checking the entrance, I felt as it was impossible to film inside. :/ In Sorano, nearby, for example, I did a very nice walk in the Jewish quarter there as well, as it's open and quite interesting as well, even if less famous than Pitigliano. The jewish history in Pitigliano is definitely ancient and quite important one in Italy

@@StillWanderer Thanks for you answer. I'll look for your video of Soreno. I intend to make a tour to Italy to visit the main Jewish remains of the Jewish diaspora following the destruction of the 2nd Sanctuary. For the last 12 years I organise tours to East Europe, where the Jewish people had its main Torah center, till WW2. We go especially to the graves of great Torah leaders. In Italy I plan, inter alia, to visit in Padova a great Torah scholar burried there. I enjoyed very much your video I saw here. Thanks again!

@@sami8009 yes Jewish community preceded Christians not only in Pitigliano but in Rome itself, it's not by chance that one of the three main roots of Roman cuisine is Jewish to this day. Pitigliano is very nice and luckily still very alive while most of these smaller old hill towns are mainly inhabited by old people and used as second homes

@@paperinik69 There is a story in the Talmud - one of some depicting the relations between Rabbi Yehuda the Prince with a Roman ceasar, Antoninus - that tells about a meal that the both had in the house of the Jewish sage. It was a Shabbat feast and the Roman ceasar enjoyed it very much. He asked for the recipe. When they met again, the Roman expressed his disappointment, becaue it wasn't as tasty as the one he ate the first time. The Jewish sage told him that that one had a special spice called Shavat. The letters of Shabbat and Shavat are the same in Hebrew. It's true that there is such a spice, but the lesson was that the spirituality of the holy day, Shabbat, is what renders this dish a special material taste. We are commanded to eat three meals every Shabbat, This is actualy the only Torah commandment that is aimed to give a material pleasure. The target of the rest of the commandments is not to materially enjoy in this ephemeral world, but to depart a spiritual eternal joy.
