Pitch Shifter Pedal Comparison - Boss PS-5, Behringer US600, Morpheus DropTune

Музыка

In this video i compare the Drop Tune functions of three pitch shifting pedals. The Behringer and the BOSS do harmonies, detune, whammy and flutter as well as up and down pitch shifting. The Morpheus only does down chromatically 7 half steps.

Dude thank you so very much for that demo comparison. I have been endlessly searching for an effect pedal to drop tune my guitars so that I don't have to keep one of them set up that way permanently. I was set on the Morpheus, but may take the cheap shot at the Behringer without concern for financial loss if it doesn't work out. And for those who downgrade Behringer's "build quality," you might abuse your equipment but I respect mine. Besides i've heard so damn many people talk about them being plastic and scared they will break, but i've yet to hear someone say that one actually has.

Actually I wanna take my words back because I had digitech drop now I have pitchfork and after i bought myself a Behringer i can tell for sure that Behringer is peace of crap with delay and volume drop. But my biggest disappointment is none of them sounds and feels like a guitar tuned to certain pitch. You gotta have at least two guitars for E & drop D and B & drop A. And for low tunings it’ll be a compromise either super thick strings or super long neck 😭

I have two of these behringer pedals. I just use them for whammy down. I have one set for a whole step, and another for a octave drop. When using it as a whammy drop end the note before the sweep ends. It's sounds convincing ;-)! You can get some nice slide and steel guitar effects, I tend to drop them in my playing. Great review man, this is a winner from behringer. Apparently you can add a expression pedal as we'll.

A good honest review, thanks. Behringer often gets a lot of negative comments in forums, not because people have tried Behringer products but because they have heard other people saying negative things about Behringer and they adopt these opinions as their own. It's good to see a great value Behringer guitar pedal get a good review by somebody who has actually tried it.

If you are going to play in a band with drop tunings, get a higher guage string and down tune. if you are using the behringer for harmonies, well, then thats a good direction. great review btw, very clear in explanations

Solid review and demo. I'm subscribing to see more content from you! I have always wondered if it's disorienting to be playing in one pitch and hearing your pick on the strings, and having a different pitch coming out of your amp? Maybe a moot point at high volume, but at practice levels, I'd think between the latency and dissonance, it would be distracting. I really liked the stutter effect on the Morpheus by the way!

I would still go with the Morpheous droptune because it is much easier when you need to switch between multiple tunings on stage. because all you have to do is hit a button a few times max and you can have any tuning you want. And they have updates you can download from the morpheous website to make it sound a little clearer which i really like.

Thank you for posting this video. It was very interesting. We are looking into dropping a half step so that I can sing a full nights show. The half step is just enough and it is not overly noticeable. My guitar players are concerned that dropping their tuning on their Gibsons and Fenders may be detrimental to the guitar neck and therefore we are looking for electronic counter measures. Any thoughts on this concern?

For me probably the best part of this video is when Gary hit the high G string and left it to sustain. And then, comparing the behaviour of that high G string from pedal to pedal. When Gerri used the Behringer, he played E5 that's why it doesn't wobble, break or shake. You see when you play a major full chord, it will wobble and shake. That doesn't happen on a 5th chord. That's why when Gary played E major on the Boss and the Morpheus, the sound was broken and garbled.

@relax235 only conventional way you could do this, that I am familiar with, is through MIDI. there are plenty of examples of being able to set, say, your E, A and D strings to sound like a bass while the G, B and E are set to a piano or keyboard setting. through a MIDI program you may be able to set just one string for a detuned effect. another thing that comes to mind is the Voice Capo. check it out, you might find it to be what you need

I've been using the Behringer US600 for a couple of months now. It works great, but it raises the noise floor significantly and is by far the noisiest pedal I have ever had in my signal chain (even when it's turned off). It also doesn't track dissonant chord voicings very well (I get tons of artifacts on certain voicings). I am considering replacing it with the morpheus, however, I have a couple of questions.

Hey Gary, With the Behringer are you able to use the pitch shift function at 1 and 2 semitones above? I have one myself and when I go above on mine it skips to 3 above. My guitar is tuned to D standard right now and I'm trying to see if I can use pitch shift to move to C# standard, C standard, D# standard, and E standard without moving the tuning pegs on my guitar. Is this possible? My Behringer only allows C# and C standard but when I try to go up it brings me to F standard.

I recently got the Behringer US600, and it sounds really good! I was able to compare it with a Boss PS5 and the Behringer sounds a lot better! Kind more "warm" and not so glitchy as the Boss. The only modus which sounds better on the PS5 is the Harmonizer, which is not so erratic and wobbly as on the US600. The Bypass is not so good on the Behringer (there's like an half second void when turning the pedal on/off, but a true bypass box/looper will do the trick), but I'm using this unit as a table top to effect synths, so it's a point I don't care so much about. for 40-50$ it's a steal!

What are some pitch-shifting pedals that can make micro tonal adjustments (instead of just semitones)? I play a Strat, and I noticed that when I break a string, the tension at the bridge makes my strings sharp by about 25-30 cents (but they're all still in tune with each other), and it would be handy to have a pedal on standby that could bring my guitar back into tune for the rest of the song. My POD as a function where you can tune to 10-cent intervals, but i don't think I've ever seen a standalone pedal with that function.

One of the things you have to consider besides warble/wavering is formant/harmonic preservation. Some pitch shifters sound more natural than others because they preserve the timbre of the sound when pitch shifting. Basically what that means is pitch shifting up won't sound nasally and pitch shifting down won't sound muddy and have no high frequencies. If you try using a crappy pitch shifter to "drop tune/detune" your guitar it's gonna sound like shit and it's going to sound like your tone knob has been rolled down.
