Dude, Brazil is a hotspot for edible Myrtaceae species from the Eugenia, Campomanesia, Psidium, Myrciaria and Plinia genus, definitely recommend you to search for more species from here in Brazil, including Cambuci (ovni shaped fruit), multiple Guabiroba species (Campomanesia sp.), Araçás (Psidium sp, same genus as guava), Grumixamas (Eugenia brasiliensis, Eugenia itaguihiensis), Uvaia (Eugenia pyriformis), Cagaita, Ubajaí...... I could be listing species the whole day here :) Try searching for the Colecionando Frutas project by Helton Josué, one of the biggest fruit collectors in the world, on the site there's a list of all edible fruits from Brazil, and you can refine your search by plant families.

Hi there! my name is Eduardo I live in Brazil/Rio de Janeiro. I have 4 of those amazing Pitangatuba trees they are really good. You can find them on the Beach in Búzios, Cabo Frio and Arrail beaches even bigger and sweet. If you get chance try Cambucá (Plinia Edulis) known as the most delicious fruit in South America. Harvest on December and January. all the best Eduardo

oddly enough i was waiting to come across this video in my recommended feed. the reason i know this fruit, is since in my neighborhood they used to grow as decorative bushes at the entrance to almost every building on the block. im from israel and over here i guess is the ideal temperature, since they would fruit most of the year, and ripen really quickly.

Wow, I'm brazilian and I have never ate those. And I love pitanga. :C
I found something similar these growing outside someone's house in Madeira, picked and tried a very red one - it was sweet, sour and juicy but there was a really strong and unpleasant lavender-y pine resin-y flavour
Very interesting, I wonder were he 1st came across it and decided to start growing them himself

i first learned of it in this wonderful book, "Brazilian Fruits and Cultivated Exotics" by Harri Lorenzi, et al. I saw the pic and was fascinated by the description...so i asked around, and luck would have it, Chris Rollins, who was curating the fruit and spice park in homestead FL, happened to have a seedling, and he gave it to me as a gift, when i traveled down to homestead to take his grafting course. i think that was around 2011? then i ordered seeds from fruitlovers.com, and Oscar Jaitt sent me some amazing quality seeds, that were from improved varieties, much better than the ones we already had here, which were more sour, and less productive. And then, i started collecting as many seeds, and seedlings as i could from all sources in USA, and started to notice a lot of variation...now i have a few selected to graft!

Wow! When I was a little kid, My Grandmother in Lakeland Fl had a hedge of the red variety of these. We raided the hedge every time we visited. She called them Surinam cherry and that seems to be a common name in Fla. Wikipedia says they're called Pitanga also. Maybe not exactly the same. There were some in hedges in St. Petersburg too. Thanks for the memory!

Interesting epidsode (as Always) I don't know if you looked this fruit up after reviewing it, but it looks like it is classified in the Eugenia species, making it closely related to Surinam (Cayenne) cherry as well as the strawberry "guava".. I can only hope that these fruit and plants eventually find their way to California..they looked delicious

Nice, I just ordered a Pitangatuba(Star cherry) plant and a peanut butter plant! Should arrive in 3 days from this post.

almost impossible to find Cambucá on market, but easy to find in Floresta da Tijuca, one of farovites fruits of emperor Pedro II last century. P.S. try Jaboticaba and Seriguela i love it. easy to find on market
It is native here where I live. It was funny to hear people saying "pitangatuba" with an american speech. XD There are dozens of fruit species in genus Eugenia. I guess you guys would like to know some. :) For example, "pitangatuba" means "giant pitanga". Pitanga is another amazing and tasteful species.

Stevia is on the order of 500 times sweeter then sugar - the mind boggling part. It's a peptide - going directly to the brain receptors for sugar so similar to an opiate but not a drug. A benifitial plant like your review of miracle berries in that stevia has no glucose, sucrose, fructose sugar molecules. Doesn't affect blood sugar levels - good for diabetics.
