He shouldn't even been playing on that knee at all. He tried to return shortly after the injury and only played about 3 games. He realized surgery was needed and had it done. He tried to return at the beginning of the next season but that just didn't work out. Played only 49 games and hobbled badly. He probably should not have even played at all that season. Remember, when Bernard King suffered his knee injury in the mid-80s he missed almost two full years. And King had a very grueling, difficult time to come back as well. In retrospect, Pete shouldn't have even tried to come back the next season but he wanted to play. Perhaps if he had taken that season to rehab, things might have turned out at least somewhat different.

What’s “funny” is imaging Maravich in today’s game.. an unreal ball handler with crazy footwork being able to carry, palm and even travel like he couldn’t when he was playing; a great shooter and big time shot creator who could and would bomb from anywhere, having a 3pt-line; the ULTIMATE showman who could dazzle any crowd with magician type moves, suddenly being praised for it, more famous for it, teammates and coaches wanting him to do it; even his knee injury, imagine him with modern medicine and whatnot; hell, even being able to switch teams regularly at his will and such 😄 Saying all of that because look at how ostracized Pete was. And mostly due to “things” that nowadays?! Would be the total opposite! At the end of the day though… history proved those naysayers wrong in many ways, and Pistol Pete’s name is synonymous with amazing basketball, he’s viewed as one of the GOATs, definitely one of the most influential, and his style lives forever…

If Maravich Would Have Started Out With Boston Under Auerbach He Would Seriously Be Considered The GOAT! PERIOD! Maravich Faced Jealousy, Reverse Racism And Shitty Coaching As A Trifecta Against Him In Atlanta. This Totally Changed His Game And Wasted His Talent. In New Orleans At Least He Had Elgin As Coach And Started To Shine, But He Never Had Any Help!

I always wondered if they drafted Pete would they also have been able to draft Cowens? I know Boston needed a center after Russell retired

@@Amick44 thanks I guess it’s safe to say the 70s would have played out different for Boston. Do you think Cowens would still have gone there?

How did the Jazz afford to pay Maravich his massive salary while playing at small empty gyms?

They also used to play in the Louisiana Superdome, see the 68 point game vs. the Knicks.
