I have just got some seeds from california and I brought to Sao Paulo Brazil... and know I am concerned about the pollinization. No idea how it works....Please share your knowleadge about this ...=-) I cant wait to get your answer.

Hi, My name is Marcos and I am from brazil. I am Portuguese/English teacher down here in the south America. I bought 16 pistachio seeds from California, raw ones; Vera, and believe back home I realized that to have pistachio I must have a male and a female tree. lol In brazil there are no pistachio trees to be sold. I have been trying for 4 months see if anyone around here understand how to identify my trees sexes. I am really getting crazy about that. Could you tell me if I do this, I will be able to identify them? I don't understand nothing about Cresol Red, DNA or something like that. I just have a little room on my back yard and I would like to find out if it is possible to see pistachio growing down here. I tried macadamia and now I have a 8 y.o macadamia tree given flower for the first time. (6 meters one) Here is the one source I have: "To identifying sex or gender in pistachio trees you need to cut leaves from them in separated containers. You need to eliminate central larger veins from leaf. Then add the stain named "Cresol Red" to the separate containers. Nee to incubate them in a 28°C chamber. The females leaf will metabolize the cresol red and produce a yellow hue. In the other side, male leaf will metabolize cresol red in a way to produce a gray or faint bluish hue." Is that true?

Hi i have a question do american pistachio growers use manure as the main fertilizer or they just use chemical fertilizers or micronutrients ? the reason i'm asking this, is we here in Iran use manure as the main or even only fertilizer because most of the farmers here believe that chemical fertilizers or micronutrients damage the soil and you are not supposed to use them a lot , but a tiny percentage of your pistachio fertilizing scheme. thank you
