I remember Mythbusters tested the upside down boat air pocket thing. The problem is that the air pocket would be so buoyant that there is no way you could hold it down underwater with just a couple of men's body weight.
@jerodast
3 ай бұрын
Archimedes principle! The buoyancy would be equal to the weight of the water displaced. Imagine filling that air bubble with water - probably pretty damn heavy. With that said...get a real small air pocket and it should work, right? Don't forget the boat's weight also pushes back on the buoyancy... I figured the flaw could be that the boat is (mostly) watertight, but not completely airtight.
@VelkanAngels

@@jerodast - Wouldn't change the fact, that they wouldn't even have been able to walk underwater, even if they weren't holding an object with very strong buoyancy, though. I have an old diving helmet in my basement. It's solid iron and I can't even lift it halfway off the ground. That's the kind of weight it takes for someone to be able to walk on the bottom of the ocean, even if they weren't holding onto a wooden boat (which is in and of itself buoyant) with a huge air pocket inside xP.

Scenes from the Original Ride that were in the film; The Man Wallowing with the Pigs, The Dog With the Keys, The Pirate Attack, The Burning Town, Skeleton Drinking Wine, The guy balancing on the Rum Barrels, The Sword fight on the Cart, The Pirate with His Head Up The Girl's Dress, RumIsla de Muerta (Dead Man’s Cove).
I've heard that the "pirate" accent was from the original Treasure Island movie. It was simply the way Robert Newton(Long John Silver) decided to talk for the character. Partly due to his natural accent, but with some possible embellishment. After that everyone just decided that's how pirates talked.
@laylaruan

It's a Cornish accent specifically
Me everytime Mrs. Movies says that Barbossa and his crew are dead: "CURSED!"
Fun story… I actually know the guy who made all the swords for this movie. I was in high school at the time, and the father of a friend of mine landed the contract to make all the swords. Every sword you see, made by hand, by a highly skilled sword master. When we all graduated, instead of getting grad rings, he made us swords. Very cool! We were warned by the principal of my school to NOT bring our “grad rings” to our grad ceremony 😂
the promotion for this movie was literally the shot of Barbossa morphing into a skeleton, front and center. for the level of 2003 tech and audience, that was an instant hook.
Geoffrey Rush (Barbosa) actually does the usual, most stereotypical pirate accent if you want to practice lol. His is a very good example, and although it IS an actual accent here in parts of the UK, it was adopted as the quintessential pirate accent by one particular actor; Robert Newton for his role in long John silver. Obviously he did a great job because it stuck for almost all pirate characters to come!
“He just got FORKED!” Yes yes yes yes yes!!!! Hahahaha

One of my favorite movies ever. I had been in the Navy for about seven years when this came out and it captured perfectly how much I loved being in the Navy and going out to sea. And how much I love the ocean. I knew I was going to love this movie the first time Captain Jack Sparrow appears on screen. And I am one of those who will call him only Captain Jack Sparrow. It seems wrong to say his name without Captain in front of it. I also love Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom in these movies. The score composed for this movie is beautiful. My favorite scene is the end, with Captain Jack on the Black Pearl when he says Bring me that horizon.
And that’s why I love Mrs. Movies. She’s the first and only KZreadr I’ve ever seen to understand what Jack was doing with the canoe under the water 😂

What? Are you sure it's not that you're ignoring the fact, that it's physically impossible to hold the boat down? Especially considering that you can't even walk underwater *without* additionally holding onto something that'd take something like an elephant's weight to hold down? I've seen like 20 reactions to this movie and at no point have anyone not understood what they were doing with the canoe. Many have simply pointed out the FACT, that it's impossible to do in reality, which makes it jarring to see (albeit cool-looking).

This first movie is an absolute classic. Johnny Depp is iconic. The later movies aren’t awful just can’t compete with this one. How Jack plays everyone the whole movie but in the end is a good guy. The later movies play too much with the double crossing and drama.

This, and also the later movies (especially from #4 onward) tried to make Jack the main character, proving that they'd failed to understand that what makes Captain Jack Sparrow so compelling isn't the wacky antics, it's the _mystery:_ we don't know what's driving Jack, what he's planning, or even whose side he's on until the climax of the film. That's great for a supporting character, but for a protagonist it's a lot harder to get audiences invested.

Because it always comes up because this movie makes a big deal of a falsehood: a properly made and fitted corset is not only not uncomfortable nor painful, but actually quite supportive and comfortable. And no one was tight-lacing in this period - that's a purely Victorian and later practice.
I agree with your use of "Caribbean." English is soo funny.... I almost always say "Appalachia" instead of "Appalachia"... but oddly, I tend to say "either" instead of "either."
My favorite pronunciation of Caribbean is the way Billy Ocean sings it in Caribbean Queen
Back in the 70s - 80s we went to Florida to visit family quite often during the summers. While there we would always go to Disney World, and Pirates of the Caribbean was my favorite ride. I would ride it at least three or four times every time we went. That and Space Mountain, because it was the only rollercoaster that did not make me sick. :D
They were lightening the ship to try and lose the Black Pearl in the Shoals.......the Shoals is an area of water around an island or rocky crags where it's very shallow and a ship can get stuck or heavily damaged on the bottom if it tries to traverse these zones. By lightening the load on their ship they make their draft (area of the ship that is under water) less and thus could potentially glide over the Shoals while the bigger heavier ship like the Black Pearl would get stuck
So glad to see you guys react to this. One of my favorite film series ❤
