I absolutely Love Sigourney Weavers line "Lets get out of here before one of those things kills Guy" Its like her character is scared but she thinks if she transposes the danger onto Guy, like in the show, then the worst that might happen is Guy gets killed. He cant be both a "disposable extra" and cared about by Sigourney Weavers character at the same time. She's leading the charge to get out of there, and despite the fact Guy is standing right behind her she doesn't even look at him, she's far more concerned about the "minors" and her own safety. She's transposing all the danger of the the disposable star trek extras trope onto Guy that he had been talking about, almost willing it to pan out that way if it they do attack The humour is how disposable Guy is and how shallow she is in that moment of danger.

The best story to come out of Galaxy Quest actually involves Star Trek Actors. Patrick Stewart didnt want to see it at first, he thought from what had been put out there that it was going to make fun of Star Trek, in a harsh way. Well one night Johnathan Frakes calls up stewart and says "You HAVE to see this movie on a weekend in a packed theatre". So Stewart went out the next weekend to watch the movie. According to him no one in the theatre laughed as hard or loud as he did, he absolutely LOVES the film. He sees it as a tribute and homage to Star Trek and to what has kept Trek going all these years, the Fans.

My favorite story fo this is that Tim Allen was overwhelmed by Enrico Colantoni's performance during the scene where Malthazar is being tortured and Taggert is forced to tell him the truth about the crew. He had to take a break in his trailer it made him so upset and Alan Rickman quipped "He just experienced acting for the first time." And yeah, Fred's stoned the whole time, they just cut out the parts that made it explicit probably for the rating. One of the best comedies ever and a personal favorite. One thing that few people notice is that Jason actually refers to Guy as "Fleegman" at one point on the desert planet. Since Guy never got around to actually _telling_ them his last name this time around, this implies that Jason heard it way back when they were filming episode 81 and has remembered it ever since, even though Guy's role was a one-off and he got killed off 5 minutes into the episode. A sequel would absolutely suck, precisely because the industry is out of ideas - which is why they'd make a sequel in the first place instead of original content. Except it would have bad writing, it would be chalked full of liberal propaganda and marxist identity politics. All actors would be recast with black gay female immigrant paraplegics just so they can say they did it. They produce garbage content they KNOW is garbage content because of ESG scores, appealing to niche demographics, and propagandizing the people, and thats all the reason they need. Good content is difficult and requires paying real talent.

But the tide has already turned. With technology being cheaper and cheaper every day, and crowd sourced funding available for independent productions, the barriers to entry are gone. Tim Allen is a Conservative. And he has enough clout to push DreamWorks to make it happen. Be of good cheer my dude, everyone can see that no BS classic movies, made to be entertaining and not to push nonsense politics, are killing it. The demand is off the charts. Top Gun, Sound Of Freedom, people actually go to these abandoned ghost town movie theaters to see them. Woke Snow White probably won't even be released... the pendulum swings and we're about to move in to an epic Renaissance era for movies/TV. Galaxy Quest was a dud in theaters, but it would be one of the biggest movies of the year I'd it came out today. People would rave about it. I predict a sequel. This is the really interesting history about Tony Shaloub's character being the way that he is, quoted by Shaloub. "That was an interesting situation, too. I had first gone in to meet the director for the role of Guy Fleegman, Sam Rockwell’s part. Crewman #6. That was the initial meeting. And then I found out a little while later that Sam was going to do that, and that was great. And then Dean called me up and said, “We would like you to do this guy Fred Kwan.” And I said, “Well, no, that’s an Asian guy. I can’t play an Asian guy! Why don’t you get an Asian guy? There’s a lot of guys out there who could knock this out of the park!” He said, “No, no, no, we think you should do this thing.” And I said [Sighs.] “Well, I can’t play an Asian guy. I won’t play an Asian guy. But I will play a guy who plays an Asian guy.” So Dean said to me, “Why don’t you take a look at the pilot for Kung Fu?” You know, the David Carradine show? “Because that was a guy who wasn’t an Asian guy playing an Asian guy.” This got really convoluted. [Laughs.] So I watched David Carradine, and then we found out that there was this rumor-I don’t think it was a rumor, I think it was a legend-that David Carradine just smoked a lot of weed on that show. That was the thing. That’s how he was able to channel that kind of Zen, unflappable character. So we decided, “Well, maybe that’s what happened to Fred, too: He just became this kind of burnout.” And then we just kind of rewrote it as we went along. Dean and the writers, we just kind of made it up as we went along, based on that idea: that he’d smoked an enormous amount of pot.

I absolutely love this movie! Sam Rockwell(Guy) is my favorite part. Every scene he’s in is hilarious. So many quotes in this movie. P.S. You should definitely consider going to Fan X Salt Lake, because I live in Salt Lake! It would be amazing just to meet you two and shake hands!

Guy being completely genre-savvy is one of the best gags. Him not getting shot during Serras's camouflage ambush is one of the more subtle jokes.

I saw this in the theater with my brother. We had low expectations going in and it was top 5 of all time when it was over. Incredible cast, great script, and the VFX still hold up.

I saw this movie so many years ago and I remember really enjoying it, but this vicarious rewatch really reminds me how awesome it was. Glad you chose it and that you liked it too! 👍

I only just noticed and I've repeat watched for years. When taken to the ship in the first place, when guy screams, look at Sigourney. She almost jumped through the roof

"Well fuck that" is my alltime favorite Sigourney Weaver moment. It could only be topped if she had had gotten her wish to film the final confrontation from Alien while completely nude. She did get the opportunity for that during A Map of the World.

24:05 - Oh, he's got more than just snacks in that "snack bag." I swear, Shaloub's character is so totally high this entire film.

Apparantly, I think I've heard, that Tim Allen needed a moment after filming his apology to Mathizar, and Alan Rickman quipped at him something along the lines of "Oh, Tim has discovered acting!"

Each character has a wonderful story arc, from the Commander to Malthazar, to the nerdy kids, and all of the crew. Everyone is given a great story. Galaxy Quest is one of my favorite Star Trek movies, and millions of Trekkies agree. I've been to a few Trek and Sci-Fi conventions, and I love how this movie is a dedication to the fandoms that make these franchises great, and why they've lasted decades. At the time of release, there was a mockumentary about the original series with all of the actors from this playing their actor characters talking about the show. You can find it on KZread, and it is hilarious. There was talk of a sequel or reboot, but Alan Rickman died before they could get it together, so the idea of a follow up was dropped.

You guys realize the gag with Tony shalhoub's character is that he was stoned with the munchies the entire time.
