4:27 this scene is a pretty good representation of what they got wrong in this movie. In all the other movies you see Jack pulling of incredible feats, yes sometimes he gets lucky and more often than not he’s making it up as he goes along, but everything he does has meaning, and even when he’s blind drunk he still manages to stay one step ahead of everybody, but in this movie they just portrayed him as a drunk bum with average luck who’s always confused. Look at some of the stuff he did in previous movies; he tricked the Royal Navy into prepping their prize ship for him and then stole it out from under them, he killed Davy Jones and saved his dying frenemy at the same time (all without losing his hat in the middle of an insane storm conjured by a vengeful sea Goddess), and escaped from the king of England’s palace using mostly improvisation disguised as randomness (ex, tossing a napkin on the floor intending to have a guard slip on it latter) and even managed to score a cream puff off the chandelier on the way out. But in this scene and through most of the movie he just acts like a fool, there’s no cleverness, now wit, no mad genius, non of the things that made Captain Jack Sparrow the greatest pirate we’d ever seen. And what’s really upsetting is they could have easily made this scene so much better, instead of having him panic and scream “go away” and then accidentally hooking the shark, classic Jack would have kept his cool and managed to hook it on purpose and with style, he probably would have worked in a clever quip once they got to shore too.

and removing the curses is what the real jack is absolutely against. remember that scene in PotC 3 when jack sees the dead kraken? he is sad and says "the worlds still the same, there is just less in it."

1) Directors don't write the story those are screenwriters 2) It was a darn funny Jack Sparrow, different in a great way, and his reasons for acting like he was acting are justified, I mean cmon! The dude had lost everything 3) The film gave us to experience a new Jack for the audience to point out the better versions of Jack Sparrow and keep the other films fresh, also to not get bored of the same stuff (even if it's not possible) 4) I loved that all-time drunk Jack 5) Even when not having the role of the classic mad man genius Jack Johnny Depp gave his best to the character and kept him interesting throughout the whole film even when you knew how he would react 6) F u for being a hater >:(

It would've been fine if he was just like this at the beginning/middle of the movie and got some sort of arc in which he has to rediscover himself. But no, they just made him an idiot throughout the entire movie, except for the scene of Salazar's backstory. Something making sense doesn't mean it's good writing

It was great as long as Johnny Depp was in the movies. Now without him and Captain Jack Sparrow, this franchise will sunk faster than his boat did in the first movie.

one thing I noticed about the problem with Jack's character here is he seems a little too much like Mortdecai. I think Johnny was unfortunately way too distracted by his real life situation and wasn't able to really focus on the Jack Sparrow we all know and love, this is one just reminds me of Mortdecai the personality and voice.
