Students in the Mass Media class produced this news package on the new "Pirate Perk Coffee Shop" that Mrs. Graves and her students started last Friday!
The main purpose of the coffee shop is to give students with disabilities the chances to gain skills that they can use as they get older (organizing, reading and learning about food safety, basic motor skills, practicing coordination). It will encourage social interactions with people students wouldn't normally interact with (teachers, other students). It also fosters inclusion and encourages people to take a second to interact with kids who may struggle with everyday communication.
We're very excited to see the "Pirate Perk"-olate. (See what we did there? 😁) This quarter students begin taking and delivering teacher orders. Second semester, if all goes well, they'll begin selling to students on Friday mornings.
Their menu of hot and cold coffees as well as other specialty drinks and breakfast snacks is impressive!
