Pirarucu Fly Fishing - GIANT ARAPAIMA of the AMAZON - by Todd Moen
Ойын-сауық
Fly fishing for GIANT ARAPAIMA in the Amazon rainforest with Untamed Angling. Pirarucú, the ancient, air breathing, giant fish of Amazonian rivers and lakes. One of the largest freshwater fish in the world, the pirarucú can grow up to 10 feet long and can weigh up to 485 pounds. The pirarucú has been a very special fish for people in this region, and I was treated to an exceptional introduction to the fly fishing quest for this amazing and unique species. As a camera operator, I was challenged by the extremely hot temperatures and humidity, as well as by the abundance of wildlife, including insects, reptiles and predatory fish, who were ready to eat me if I was too lazy. This trip was certainly exciting, and I learned a lot about the fish and people living in the heart of the rainforest. Special thanks goes to Rafael Costa, the amazing guide for Untamed Angling. His fantastic ability to maneuver the boat, land huge fish and keep us safe from Amazonian predators was especially awesome. And to angler extraordinaire Brian O'Keefe, for making this video possible.
The Fly Shop provided a great travel experience, Rainy's Flies contributed the perfect fly selection and Scientific Anglers provided jungle lines. Very special thanks to R.L. Winston Rod Company for their continuous and generous support of T-Motion Theater. Please spread the word and share the Catch Magazine channel with your friends. Yes. I will have a nice big pond for it to live in. I think tiny would be a perfect name.
Got to get there some day,ill endure every thing just to hook one of this fish on the fly
No mystery how they could be susceptible to overfishing. Cool video.
Very beautifull video! What camera did you use?

I need a bigger bucket!
What type of gear do you need to catch a arapima? Like what size reel, what type of rod, what line and what size hooks?

@@celsofrederico6622 Great, although I want to be a vegetarian when I am alone, it is great, we don't have this kind of fish here. .
Only the wealthy need apply.
If you have bent hooks your drag is set too high. That’s on the angler, not the fish

What?, ever try to have loose drag in a river FULL of logs rocks, mass weed and snags etc when connected to a 300 pounder? The amazon maybe the most snag filed river on earth without exaggeration. Just letting the 300 pound fish run about at its pleasure isn't a great idea. These are the top guides in the amazon. they survive on this.. Ever try to stop a dogtooth tuna before it runs back to the reef that 99/100 times will cut your line? Stop a 50 pound amberjack before it reaches the shipwreck to hide in? Ever try to stop a 300 pound mako from spooling you at 35 miles an hour? You obviously have never big game fished if you think its always the anglers fault. There is ''your damned if you do and your damned if you don't'' in big game. Just go watch videos of top guides and tournament winners. People who fish for a living and you'll see straightened hooks all the time, its not like bass fishing where it should never happen

Michael Phillips Sounds like somebody’s personally butt hurt. Thank you for your opinion
