    This receiver had a power draw of 10 amps at idle (1,000 watts). If left on at idle 8 hours per day, it would reflect about $30 per month on your electric bill. So, if you have one, don't use it as your overnight radio. LOL!

    The power supply is worth a mention, being as problematic as it is. Not sure the point of title mentioning "resroration" if no mention of work performed, cpas used, areas not done, nothing else is mentioned. Power supply, pioneer 1980 (and many Pioneer integrateds) #1 cause of failure. Yours, is a superb example of the exterior and function, baybe a single word about the interior is warrented.

    @@NovaluxStereophonic thats great, will look forward to the power supply stuff. I began following, and marginal participation is, restorations 16 years ago on AudioKarma, back before it was popular. Went rounds with my own 1980 for years, with current source supply mods and others invented for the 1980 on audiokarma. Worth your time, if you've not been there. Mentioning the fairly difficult to source ouputs in these, and a few other amps that used them as well as sonic differences between the 80series and 50 series Pioneer between this style output and the to3 of the others. Great fun, and been a fan of many if your videos. Thank you for your time on these. Do check out the reproduction power supplies for the 1980 and other series pioneer like the 9800 integrated (also with an upside down power supply) Once they get roasted and crispy, these new supplies out of Canada are ex. Beside having all the mods needed to relieve the supply of its heat issues as outlined on AK, its also got plus and minus 80v adjustments ect. Take care, thanks again for all you do. Allhartfidelity

  • @NovaluxStereophonic

    The market value of vintage receivers takes many factors into account ranging from collectibility, better build quality in comparison to modern components, near infinite serviceability, nostalgia, aesthetics, and many more factors too numerous to document here. Supply and demand also plays a big roll and with more of these ending up in the trash every day the prices should generally increase over time.

    @@NovaluxStereophonic Yea I understand all these reasons as I service Vintage equipment myself.....I am commenting on the sellers, in particular, that ask an arm and a leg on Craigslist (with no fees for selling) desirable vintage units that have not been serviced or are not even in working condition. I have owned/restored all major receivers of this 1970's era (including the 1980) and have to say only 2 impressed me for sound quality: Kenwood KR-9600 but way more so is the Luxman L-1120R

  • @NovaluxStereophonic

    @NovaluxStereophonic

    @@Sans_Solo_ I would certainly agree with that. Lots of sellers out there claiming to sell “serviced” equipment, meanwhile the only work performed was a blowout with compressed air and all controls saturated in deoxit. It’s up to the buyer to seek out quality serviced and restored units. Someday I may put together a video with some recommend questions for buyers to ask sellers to gauge their electronic competence :). My video formats have changed quite a bit since this video. If you check out my videos on the SX-1250 and 9090DB I spend a lot more time focusing on what should be done electronically to make sure that these receivers are set up for long term reliability.
