My eyes lit up when I saw a twin Pioneer- as I bought an 830 earlier this years with no motion- that was just the gooey belts..to both decks. Very different inside. Oh, and no springs or nails. When I was a kid- Id often solder some 16swg inside the glass fuse- the hot iron will lift the end-caps. As you say Dave, limits the chance of fires.

That's not a spring, it's a 100amp slo-blo with inline choke.

I have a CT-W600R dual deck. Looks just like yours. It still works after 29 years. (I haven't used it much since 2013. Very informative video. May refer to it if mine acts up. Haven't opened it up yet. Mine's autoreverse. But that doesn't make it better. :)

lol. 😂 I worked in a place that constantly had electrics going down once. I found cigarette foil in place of a fuse once, a cut down bolt on another occasion, and the mapping to a 3 phase fuse box miss represented on another occasion which could have proved fatal. No accounting for the stupidity of some folk but it did teach me to meter everything in the future😊

I once found a 22cal bullet in place of a fuse. That could have ended explosively.

I've seen the foil trick done before and I've even seen various screws stuffed in to the fuse holder, but that a first for me with a spring. Seemed like a perfect fit too.

Well, first of all, the damage (if existing) was already done; it was for a short period of time, surely it was connected to a reliable and stable power supply and - this time - someone know what was doing...

That idiot error that it came with is quite a relief actually, isn't it? :D Priceless reaction too!

I always use a length of 1/4 in copper tubing to replace a 3AG or 8AG fuse, carries more current. (snicker...)

I have a pioneer RX_521 and on the tape decks they both make sound when you press play rewind or forward but not movements at all.

Someone must of started troubleshooting that in the "spring" time. LOL

Is somehow indentic to my dad friend's deck, CT-W530R is looks. But problem of Ct-W530R is when records. Left Channel is never recorded in old tapes. The new tapes did work, but shells old do no work in pioneer.

I have a beta machine and sometimes I see red green and blue tones and then they go away. Any suggestions you can offer to try? Its a sony beta Hifi

Hi, i have the Pioneer 530 Deck, (prob. the same). At thre right side i have a whistle when i play a tape. Have you an idea what it is?

I have a JVC model tdw-1 10 stereo cassette deck but mine has a serious problem with a squealing tape player how can I fix this problem and it's not just because you put it in play it happens when you power the thing up

Scariest thing I've seen to replace a fuse? A live .22 round.

That Sony tape is 1995-1997 model.

Guess he couldn't " spring " for a new fuse.

Well look at the bright side, it will survive vibrations and it is the last thing that will stay alive if lightning hit it :D BTW it sounds quite nice.

Which type of vu meter on a tape deck would you say was the most accurate.? LED, VFD or moving coil?

Led and vfd same thing. Peak reading digital. Always more accurate than analog which is just an average reading.

Blown fuses have never caused me anything but trouble, like last winter!... so why not just put something that'll conduct instead?? :P

I usually go to the auto parts store and buy a replacement 20 amp fuse.

I didn't expect how someone place the hard metal spring into the fuse terminal. To me it's like a quick fix when someone is not going to replace with the new fuse and put the hard metal spring in there and say "there you go," not a good idea.

Had it for awhile. Fluke puked. Needs to be fixed again. Won`t go into AC measurement mode. Probably the rubber strips that connect the keyboard to the main board. (rubber with fine wires inside to make the connection)

Shoulda replaced the belts too. The wow seems awful on this. Edit: Sounds better in the end so maybe it was just the first tape you played

Dave, surely if it was your mate that put the spring in there he would have done something similar with the other blown fuse? Because of this, I would have to conclude that this was done before he owned it.

And seeing as how it is the throw away everything kind of times these days instead of all it doesn't work now let's try to fix it instead of throwing it in the garbage can wow

It wasn't that long ago that a career could be spent repairing consumer electronics, and we all made good money. I was making between 60 and 80,000 a year servicing TVs and VCRs. 5,000 to 6,000 a month working from a shop that was 3 blocks from where I lived. Back in the 80's and 90's a house could be had for just over 100,000. In fact my house when I bought it was only 112,000 back in 93 when i bought it. Back in the 80's wages were much lower. Minimum wage was 3.50 an hour, and in the TV/VCR repair business we were making 25-30 an hour. This all changed in the late 2000's when the cheap throw away attitude began. In 2001 I saw a big drop in service, and an even bigger drop in 2002. By 2003 I could see the writing on the wall and I made a quick exit, and went to work for the phone company. Incidentally, even today, working for a large union corporation I really don't make much more than I did in the heydays of TV repair.

Oh No its the taping police. I better run and hide all my old recordings off the radio.

If was the owner who did that "trick", we can say that he is a very lucky idiot! I have one and I always noticed that there's always a difference (for less) between the recording and the playback volume. And the heads look scratchy too. I am thinking about replacing them, but I think that it will be better to not to try to do it myself, it is not right?

Before you found the problem with the fuses ,did you hear the motor moving? Or not?
