Pinch rollers working fine it seems! well done!!! The leftmost guide: Sony recommend adjusting the screw until there is no curl either side - this is what I do, never had any problems. Head Guide: That slight curl may have always been there - it does not mean that the head is height-misaligned, the guide may be out too!?

Jeremy, it's gonna take a long time to get through this machine. Sleep on it, make notes, and leave it for a week or two. Fixing takes me ages too on much more simpler machines. So far - thumbs up! ;o)

Wow $400! I'm a complete 'tight arse' in comparison! (Hope that UK term translates correctly to the US/Canada!? LOL) Personally, I confess, I should be called 'Mr Mean', as I pay little for my decks, but the decks I buy are usually highly selective, and usually are mid-late 1970s machines. It was an exciting time.

Jeremy, an M-300 alignment gage would be very helpful at this point. Regarding your attenuated treble, just mess with your azimuth screw a bit while monitoring a known good tape and see what happens, it may be something else, but I would start there. I missed why you needed to replace the Nylon nut but those are commonly available around here. Good video as always.

I found the problem while editing and tried to use title cards to explain (no time left to shoot new video segments) - the new metal nut didn't have the range of motion needed to line up the tape path. It needed threads below where the threads stopped. Adding two washers fixed that and brought the left channel back into line with the right.

I have to admit that I skipped around quite a bit and missed so few things. So it was an azimuth issue but caused by tape skew and/or curl. I've seen those height gauges on Ali for $20 but the comments say they are too thin. There are three points of critical contact that someone clever like yourself could easily shim to the correct thickness, assuming of course, that the plate itself is actually flat (I wouldn't count on that though, but for $20?). Anyway, I could send you all the specs if you ever decide to give it a try.@@Oklawolf

I have an M300 gauge coming now. Contacted Willy Hermann this morning only to find out he's decided not to offer them anymore. However, he still had one he was willing to sell me albeit without a protective case. Price was reasonable so I went ahead and sent him the cash. The plan is to use it for the first time on the Nak 480. I'll try and get it going the usual way I have been, then the second video will be doing it right with the gauge. Should make for a couple good videos. Yeah, the CT-F900 had just enough tape curl on the head guides to knock down the left channel. It's sounding great now.

That deck looks nightmarish to repair! Saw techmoan's video on the 1250 and I wanted one, but they all had ridiculous prices on eBay.

People who sell sophisticated decks like this on ebay for 'parts or repair' and wanting sky-high prices, surely are oblivious to the work that goes into restoring these old machines? Typically, we must be allocating 10hrs to 50 hrs over a period of several weeks, or even months. And I'm ignoring the frustration factor and additional cost and time trying to source bit and pieces. There are some hilarious asking prices (here in the UK and the US) for high-end Naks which are also labelled as 'spares or repair'.

They're insane. Especially for a deck like this that's now into five videos to get it right. I've just about given up on the eBay US market for these. Shipping costs are absolutely out of line, and their owners aren't any more reasonable. The DCC unit that's coming in was a rare exception, but I had to settle for the worst one ever made to even get one in budget. I give myself a 5% chance of actually fixing that thing, but it should make for a decent video or two.

I think the CT-F1250 uses different belts than this one. I have confirmed that three of the four WJOE belts I used were the correct ones for this machine, and I have replaced the new WJOE intercapstan belt with the original one until the correct belt arrives. I do not trust belt kits. I tried it just this once and got one wrong belt.

I'm in search for an oscilloscope just for doing cassette decks. Your portable Owon oscilloscope looks great. Do you think it's good for a beginner oscilloscope for cassette head alignment and outputs levels.

Hello! I own a CT-F900… and I’ve been having this one specific issue with it for years, every six months the transport controls become flaky and unresponsive, to correct this I have to disconnect the harness of wires from the control board, spray the pins and the harness down with contact cleaner, and reseat the harness to correct the issue. Do you know what could be causing this? Thanks!

I would check the connector contacts for looseness. Unless you live by the ocean or something they shouldn't be dirtying themselves up quite that frequently. And even then I'd still be checking the contacts.

@@Oklawolf Thank you, I don’t know why I didn’t suspect the contacts inside the connecter… I will see what I can do with them. At one point I was debating on just cutting out the connecter and soldering the wires onto the pins semi-permanently.
