Комедия

This movie had an English dub all ready done but then they decided to go back and make the best casting ever with Pauly Shore as Pinocchio!

    Despite being called "Pinocchio: A True Story", the characters are actually based on Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy's 1936 book "The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino". Pauly Shore's performance here is sadly an example of why celebrity voice acting tends to get a bad rep. Which is worse in this case because Shore DOES have some experience voice acting as he voiced Bobby in "A Goofy Movie" and its sequel and he did a fine job there... though then again the character was basically designed with him in mind because he's a stoner.

  • @mightyfilm

    @mightyfilm

    Жыл бұрын

    Exactly. All he had to do as Bobby was his normal 90's movie schtick. Here he basically does his normal inflections, but with dialogue that doesn't work well with it. And they didn't so much as rewrite any of his dialogue to end with "Buh-UHHH-ddy."

    @@ditzyhere3138 It's just a weird casting decision on both counts. Jon Heder does work as the horse, though. I don't know how this movie would have been with California surfer bum burnout dialogue coming out of Pinocchio, but it feels like we'd get something more natural from him. Also, anyone else getting oddly Invader Zim vibes when he reads the line of dialog about how he's ALIIIIIVE?

    Interesting fact for Phelous: Jordan Worsley (who supposed to voice Pinocchio) is a slightly famous KZreadr in the "Skyeng" channel (which is the biggest online course of English in Russia), where he is telling some interesting cases in English language and some aspects of the British lifestyle. Idk i never found them funny Wish they at least kept a version with Jordan Worsley Yeah, the movie would still be bad but not every movie needs to be a master piece. Great review as always Phelous! The girl with the blue hair makes me think of Malvina from Russian version of Pinocchio called-Adventures of Buratino(Golden Key). She had blue hair too tho in the animated movie(and story) she had escaped the circus and lived in a cottage and tried to teach Buratino manners and alphabet and stuff. She was a love interest to not for him but for Pierrot. And in Buratino his nose actually DOES NOT grow when he lies. and his behaviour is actually rewarded and he becomes a non-conformist. The story cut out A LOT from it's inspiration prob bc Tolstoy's book was written in 1930's so A LOT of the...19th century moralizing and outcomes would've been seen as way too harsh. Edit: It's got to do with terriblness of everything else but Bella's song is kinda nice. I mean it's nothing overly original...but it's ok.

    Shame you don’t cover the Faerie Tale Theater videos since I seem to recall their version of Pinocchio was played by Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman. I even recall watching their version of Aladdin as a kid which starred James Earl Jones as both the ring & the lamp Genies. It would also be a great way to expand the Beauty & The Beast reviews. Beauty is played by Susan Sarandon, Klaus Kinski is The Beast, and Stephen Elliott is The Old Man.

    There’s old Russian ummm let’s call it “remake” of Pinocchio named “Buratino”. Story somewhat the same, few interesting additions, but it’s very much version for kids. Not brutal as original Pinocchio tale. And there’s a girl puppet named Malvina who has blue hair. She had a poodle Artemon and emo simp Pierro (I honestly love him the most). I guess Russian creator made this Bella girl have blue hair as a reference. But I don’t think she was originally Buratino love interest. She was just a elegant girl all about good manners and tried to teach him some. P.S. after that bit of useless info I want to thank you for the review it made me laugh and I haven’t laugh in a while.

    I think what's so weird about this is that Pinocchio is already a barely connected, barely coherent story when you're trying to deal with the original tale. So there's plenty you could cut out or change, because so much isn't connected to anything else. And yet, they seem to have assembled the story beats seemingly at random? Like so much comes out of nowhere and just... happens? It's so strange.
