One of the most unique things about Pink Floyd is that even though there are lyrics, the music is so emotional, reflective, and thought provoking, your mind's ear will write your own personal lyrics... timeless and current at the same time.

The wall is the figurative, psychological wall one erects to protect oneself from hurt, resulting pretty much in isolation. For a little more insight check out "When the Tigers Broke Free" and "Mother. And for an all live live stream, pretty much anything ( or everything) from the Pulse concert, 1994 would be remarkable. Talk about going om a journey. When it's over you just kind of look around and say "I can't believe we never left".

When the Tigers Broke Free is one my favorite Floyd songs, and the fact that it was left off the album is mind-blowing. It's not a fancy Floyd song, but Roger's delivery of the powerful and plain-spoken lyrics is chilling. No fancy and frilly metaphor, just cold and bitter disdain for the people who 'took his daddy away' from him.

Thank you for this great reaction. Pink Floyd is a British group, almost all of their songs are about either personal feelings towards 'ruling powers' or personal experiences and that makes the lyrics relatable, when you toss in their phenomenal talent, their music is always an awesome experience.

For years, after he left Pink Floyd, Roger Waters said he wouldn’t perform “The Wall” until the Berlin Wall came down. The summer after the wall came down he organized a star-studded performance of the full album at the site of the wall in Berlin. I have a VHS of that performance, which was a fundraiser for the UK’s equivalent to Wounded Warriors.

Yes Roger grew up in post-war England. They were bombed by the German Blitzkreig and when he grew up they were recovering from that. A very PTSD society. Their neighbor France just across the river was occupied by Nazi forces. So his childhood , his over-protective mother, his terrible teachers etc all helped to create his wall. His withdrawal from normal social life.

You will not be sorry when you dive into this band! Never met a person who didn’t like Pink Floyd. From Rap, Country, R&B, even Classical. A great song to start your journey would be Shine on you crazy diamond. The song and basically the whole Wish you were here album is written about Sid Barrett. He was the lead guitarist and founding member who went on to many acid trips and suffers from schizophrenia. He was institutionalized, but was able to get out once in awhile. So he ended up in the studio when they were recording this album and no one recognized him for awhile. He had shaved his head and eyebrows. Enjoy! Oh shine on you crazy diamond 1-5. Also one of my favs. Is “Time” also a great listen!

Watching the MOVIE "The Wall" will bring most, but not all, of these songs from this album into context. BUT, I strongly encourage you to listen to the album, start to finish, first. Then listen again with a copy of the lyrics. And finally watch the movie. That way you get three distinct and differing journeys out of it. You will find your own meanings and insert your own context for each track, most of which transition into the next with no breaks. Then, when you watch the movie, you will get a bunch of, "Oh...... that's what it's about." moments. I strongly recommend a fourth listen in a recliner in a very dark room with your favorite alcoholic beverage or other relaxing method.

Maybe just for yourself, listen to The Wall in its entirety - from start to finish. It's a musical epic/story of Pink, from childhood, through adolescence and his career with all its troubles. The story is somewhat inspired by the life experiences of Roger Waters (bassist and main songwriter of the band). The song Hey You is just one piece of the story. Listen to the whole thing and then you'll find out how powerful this work actually is... I love pretty much everything Pink Floyd created, at different times in my life the priorities of the songs change but if I had to pick the best for me and for you to be inspired to respond, it would probably be "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" from the 1975 album Wish You Were Here. It is (in my opinion) one of the best pieces of music in the history of modern music. If you haven't heard it yet, I recommend the studio version for a first listen, ideally with the original animated music video. If you read up on the track beforehand, your listening experience will be all the more enhanced. It's moving and beautiful. It's notable that Waters and Gilmour (formerly Barrett) are always cited as the main Pink Floyd composers but I think the best stuff was composed by Rick Wright (keyboardist). He's a bit neglected but he's the writer of some of the most gorgeous and powerful songs. Excuse my English - I'm from the Czech Republic.

Original audio, some favorites are: "Echoes", from the Meddle album (the cut from Echoes: the best of PF album, is minus 7 minutes in the middle), is the original 23 minutes of deep sonic hypnosis from 1971, "Dogs" from Animals (1977), and "Obscured by Clouds" and "When You're In..." together, from the La Valee (1972) movie soundtrack (AKA Obscured by Clouds), and "Comfortably Numb" from the Pulse live concert (1994), the first 3 come to mind. Nick Mason, the Drummer of Pink Floyd, put together a band a few years ago. They tour and play early Floyd stuff, up to the album Meddle. Look for "Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets", Live at the Roundhouse. They are all good, but my faves are "Fearless" and "Green is the Color".

The Wall is so touching because I too lost my father at 15, and definitely have built a wall ever since. It helped me realize this and that I definitely need to open up to people before it’s too late.

To me ,the the most powerful line in the song , " Don't help them to bury the light ." Our problem is that there are too many out there who are trying to bury the light . The light of equal rights , equal justice and human dignity . If we stand united , we have a chance of stopping them. We must show them they are their own worst enemy.

if i'm not mistaken in an interview it was actually stated that that line was reflecting the idea of pink (the narrator/main character) sort of projecting himself as a Christ like figure; a rock and roll demigod of sorts as he slipped into delusion

When this came out I would listen to this front to back with headphones LOUD. The Movie is a MUST watch for you now if you want the entire story. (You won't need drugs but it won't hurt) 😎 Happy belated 4/20+

You need to do "Dark Side of the Moon" album in it's entirety. You can do it live and THEN do it in a four part edit. Watch your channel GROW...!!! This album will blow both your minds...!!! As great as this song is, MOST Pink Floyd fans will agree you MUST do "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" pt 1-V This song is considered one of THE MOST EPIC and Greatest Compositions EVER WRITTEN... Guaranteed to take you on an Emotional Rollercoaster..!! Peace

great reaction. The live Pulse concert remastered 2019 is awesome, as you discovered with Comfortably Numb...however EVERY song is dope; the whole production is spot on: SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND (opening concert sax), KEEP TALKING (voice box), SORROW (awesome solo better than Comfortably Numb imo) ONE OF THESE DAYS (flat pedal steel all instrumental and crazy) and RUN LIKE HELL (their encore closure). Even after perhaps listening to the studio versions of Money and Another Brick in the Wall, the live versions are extensions like the live Comfortably Numb was....can't wait to see you react to those as well!

It would be so cool to see you react to this whole album, its a concept record and the whole thing is a story. I don't know if that's even a possibility but I'm here for it! I Always enjoy your reactions.

So I just come across your channel and subscribed OTS simple because you got Floyd.Being a Floydian myself for 45 yrs I got to have my Floyd fix.Watching first reactions gives that because it's like I'm somewhat hearing it the first time with you..There are so many good ones.Pay close attention to specific takes on certian songs that are suggested.Such as comfortably numb should be off of the Pulse Live',while One of these days should be from the Delicate sound of Thunder', Live.

The thing with many of these songs, they seem to start from nowhere and end abruptly, this is mostly because both Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall are concept albums where each song chains with the next telling a story. Listening to them one at a time in disorder is nice but never the same as listening to the full story in sequence.

Pink Floyd albums are basically concept/theme albums. Each song is a build up or continuation of the previous song. Would be great for a live reaction.
