    you could mean it all the way you want, he's one of my favorite also and the band a personnal musical inspiration for my music. But within the years i've learned something about musicianship, and it's the idea that there are 2 type of musician. One with soul, feeling and grooving within the forests of soundscape, or the other who's theoritical and highly critical. A true musician is one who puts life into a dead medium. Gilmour is one within the great circle of art, yet he can't be the best, because the essence of art is to learn and give so someone else learns and gives back.

Not to be manipulated by someone, like the lyric " Oh by the way which ones Pink? Oh the name of the game is riding the gravy train" they recognized they were attempting to use them. The story behind how Roy Harper ended up on this track goes like this. The band was in the middle of recording Wish you were here and when it came around time to track this song Roger wanted to do the vocals, they even recorded with him singing but David wanted sing on it and didn't think it worked with Roger singing. Roy Harper happened to be in the same studio recording his own music and David asked him if he wouldn't mind giving it a try since both Roger and David couldn't agree on who should sing. They recorded it and the band with the exception of Roger thought it worked better.

'The Wall' is full of those magical transitions. That's one long continuous operatic masterpiece, and if possible.....is best listened to in order. There's a modern act called The Main Squeeze that did a cover of Have A Cigar. They cranked the dial to 11, broke the knob off and buried it in the backyard. It's one of the very few times where a Pink Floyd cover holds it own.

  • @Codex7777
    @Codex77774 жыл бұрын

    This one should really be listened to after listening to, 'Welcome to the Machine'. They cover similar topics. Have a Cigar is much more specific though. Welcome to the Machine is a fantastic song in it's own right. Even better than Have a Cigar imho. Mind you, it shows how exceptional Floyd are, that these 2 songs are the candidates for worst track on the album. Of course to call either track the 'worst' would be ridiculous. All tracks on Wish You Were here are stellar. Ditto the tracks on Dark Side of the Moon. In fact, with most Floyd albums it's nigh on impossible to find a bad track. They're just too damn good! :)

    I got to see them Echoes live the 1st time I saw them. They played JFK Stadium (where Live Aid was held) and the first song to kick off the concert was Echoes. What a night to be 17 in 1987! We were lucky in Philadelphia and a few other cities as well because it was played a handful of times. Apparently they got upset at the reactions of the crowd. Or so I read...

    Not true Welcome to the machine comes before it. Wish you were here comes after have a cigar. In the end of have a cigar it goes into a tv sound (if I'm not mistaken it's a scene from the movie rear window from Hitchcock, and the male main character is talking to his girlfriend) then the movie sound of the TV fades away into wish you were here. How many seconds of pinks Floyd albums do you know Pedro? Pedro: yes
