The coming together of brilliant writing and a band executing them so well it raises the music to magical levels---a great, great band at their very best.

Love the album. It hasn't been beaten into the ground like the two previous albums or The Wall.

That’s definitely part of the albums appeal lol…DSOTM rarely gets airplay in my rotation

I remember radio stations playing Susie Q, Southern Man and many other longer songs and chopping them down to 3 minutes. I'm glad they never did that with Animals songs. Love this album.

No matter how much I listen to Animals, WYWH, Dark Side, The Wall etc my favorite album for some strange reason remain Saucerful of Secrets… With Animals being a close second favorite, I know it might be a bit odd, but Saucerful is full of psychedelic gems, See-Saw, Jugband Blues and Set the Controls are amazing while the rest of the tracks are great.

My favorite Floyd album. It fit the times perfectly, and for me, epitomized the apex of what Floyd were trying to achieve.

WKRP episode with Animals in it is a classic. RIP Johnny Fever and Rick Wright

This album was years in the making listen to Live at Wembley 1972 it's beautiful. My fav Floyd by far.

What Gilmour does with the guitar on this album is, in my opinion, the best thing he did with Floyd.

Animals is a massively underrated masterpiece. Dogs is the best song ever, from the best band ever. They have pretty much the top 5 or 6 songs on the BEST list. Dogs, Time, Comfortably Numb, Echoes, Shine On...in no particular order except Dogs at the top.

Animals is one of my favorite albums in the world. I’ve been waiting for a deluxe box set for years. Now the set is finally coming out it looks sad. The box set in 2022 only includes the album remix in vinyl, cd, dvd & blu ray. No live stuff or demos? What a missed opportunity. I’ll still love the album just as much as ever. I only hope once the box set finally comes out that it includes something aside from the studio album.

Gilmour says he hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of a Floyd reunion with Mason (at least for a few shows.) I say it isn’t really a reunion without Waters. Shame they all will never set aside the differences and make that happen.

This album solidified their 1970's dominance. The majority of their albums were done in the 70's and most of their best albums as well.

Animals is probably my favourite Floyd LP. It's so dark and aggressive. Slightly Punk in its vitriol.

Love the Animals album. Roger Waters could under stand why The Beatles decided to end touring. Lennon said on that last tour "We could have sent out 4 wax works and no one would have probably notice." It only got bigger and worse from 66 on.

Meddle and Animals are two of the best albums Floyd have released. I never saw those tours, but I have seen Waters many times since, and the PF without Waters too.

Saw all tours since 1970! Twas over in 1977-you saw only faxes. the bands you saw were Not PF!

IMO, the 1992 remastered version included in the Shine On set is still the best of Animals. It sounds fantastic! And apparently old Rog has changed his mind about "the gross." He plays stadiums almost exclusively these days. 🙄

Well he did in 2013, also some countries in South America only offer stadiums DK for gigs. RW tinad tour is arenas.

Not in the USA. Here he has pretty consistently played arenas and Amphitheaters, but insuspect AUS/NZ, Mexico and South America are always stadiums. It’s probably not economical to play smaller venues. Same is true with U2.

Yeah, he was quite happy to tour The Wall in stadiums. Didn’t he get the highest grossing tour one year? Roger’s version of socialism is easy for an extremely wealthy man.

I really want to hear, and have ordered the Most expensive version of this remix. I never EVER play sacd or blue ray. Hope it is cool through two speakers like amused was. I prefer the 87 momentary mix because it is an 80s album for good or worse. It just sounds right in its original format. Animals? Who knows. Would be really cool if Guthrie managed to make a 41 year more modern version superior. If not then I still have the original to enjoy, but I believe he has pulled it off and made something more appealing

I saw the Pigs tour at Clevelands World Series of Rock. Although the Floyd was very upset with Us (someone shot the pig with a bottle rocket) it was by far the best outdoor concert I ever attended They played all 3 lp’s moon wish and animals with stunning visuals❤️

True the Roger segment is from 1992 but show is 2002

This wasn’t played on rock stations? I heard every single track (with the possible exception of Pigs on the wing) on WPLJ, WNEW, and/or WPIX (nyc stations). The only compromise was that Dogs was almost always split in two (which was odd, given that they l’d play Echoes straight through.

@@PinkFloydCollectors i think they were played during the day too. PLJ was notorious going on commercial free 1+ hours w/o commercials during the week. Commercial free weekends were not unknown. I recall once then having a king commercial free period, having a bunch of commercials and the. Going commercial free for another hour or 2. Rick radio changed a lot sometime in the 80s, probably around the time PLJ switched to top 40.

That's true bro I lived in NY at that time long Island and I heard animals on WNEW matter of fact when PF played Madison Square Garden I went to that show and the week before the concert they played it every day giving a welcome to Pink Floyd coming to NY set fantastic show still I Remember it to this day and this was 1977 . Brought an Pink Floyd Animals US tour T shirt from that gig.

I remember like it was yesterday. also remember Dave gilmour wife was next to the huge PA system on the ground. Near the end of the show , we walked very close to the P.A.

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that this album was the start of the agro between Gilmour and Waters? I believe royalties etc were split depending on number of songs on the album and Roger got two credits because "Pigs on the Wing" was split into two songs, yet Dogs which is far longer song and far more involved only got the one? Would be interesting to hear this confirmed or otherwise?

For an interesting insight into the cause and effect of the animosity between Waters and his fellow band members, particularly Gilmour, and Wright, read Mark Blake's Pigs Might Fly. Waters possesses an ego the size of Russia, and his belief that he was the singular, most creative member of Floyd, and should thus be remunerated accordingly, lead to the royalty percentage being determined by the number of individual compositions on the album.

As for Rick's essential contributions to the overall sorta eerie feel to A - the Sheep and Dogs keyboard interludes (particularly live, even as far back as 74 when alternatively named), I could never fathom why he got no co-composer credit for those flourishes. Perhaps that was RW's "Russia size ego" (?!!! Is that M. Blake's assessment?) along with Rick's known gentler, less confrontational nature: but then it was a period he had entered into his own 'absence' reasons, too. (Does Blake expound on that?)

My favorite songs from the "Animals" album are: "Dogs" and "Sheep".

Animals. My personal favorite . David Gilmour stretches it a bit. Dark album about society and people who Slither about especially In Government. Album today is appropriate for the times sadly. Roger Waters activism today continues. Waiting for the new Box to hopefully arrive . There best record ? Probably not but certainly my favorite . Not radio friendly which gives it the appeal.

I am literally obsessed with this album and have been waiting for some form of anniversary or special edition for years, having all kinds of memorabilia from album and tour and every available bootleg scrutinised it just needs the official recognition for us fans, I appreciate the difficulties due to differences and many personal or sensitive issues for the chaps who produced it but it's frustrating for fans and obsessives or collectors.... Always struggled to imagine why the tour was never officially documented particularly on film at the time before it all really turned sour in the US given the stature of the group at that time and it being such a spectacle....

This fits the narritive of excellence.

How times change Roger. " The Wall Berlin" estimated 400,000 to 500,000. "It's all about the gross"
