    If you ever wonder why the pros hold the ball up to the light, I suspect it's to look for a dark spot that indicates that the ball has a manufacturing defect. And when I buy a 10 pack of DHS D40+ there seems to be an average of 7 out of 10 balls with that have a wall thickness variation. This makes quality balls even more expensive than a 3 pack of Nittakus because you have to buy 10 DHS to get 3 quality balls. Don't get me wrong, the 3 D40+ out of the 10 pack that are good quality are arguable BETTER than the Nittaku NP40+ balls. But it's frustrating to buy a 10 pack of 3* DHS and wind up with 7 balls that are 1-2* training quality.

    @@nishantupadhyay01 When I wrote that post, 4 years ago, it was accurate. DHS has for decades, been known to mix factory seconds into their premium offerings, even when purchasing through DHS resellers. I suspected that they simply didn't have the quality controls in place that companies like Nittaku and Butterfly have in order to supply the export market with first quality product. Since then, it's worthy to note that DHS has produced variants of DJ40+ series balls (both Tokyo 2020 and the newer WTT) that are either higher or equivalent priced compared to Nittaku Premiums. Of those more expensive DJ series, I have only ordered a dozen or so, but have not found the defects that I had wither earlier DHS D40+ balls. TL;DR Report Nittaku Premium 40+ Balls are consistent quality for the dollar. DHS makes some great balls, but you might have to pay Nittaku prices to get them.

    @1:45 DHS is now producing D40+ table tennis balls to replace the polymer (plastic) 40+ which is being manufactured by other companies but prone to breakage, cracks, etc. The DHS D series use tougher ABS (plastic) which increases toughness for much better durability. 40 stands for 40mm which was introduced in 2000 to replace the traditional 37mm diameter. + simply means plastic instead of the highly flammable celluloid, introduced for much safer transport/delivery, especially air freight. Did you know celluloid balls were banned for air cargo back then? After all, my guess is D signifies DHS for their selection of ABS material to keep their D series balls apart from other branded polymers. Whether they have patented this product is unclear.

    Gee. No mention of how the 40+ ball is/was one of the crappiest of the new non-celluloid balls made. Players have been complaining for years. They break easily, bounce low and go out of round while playing. These balls have been a real embarrassment for both DHS and the ITTF. That, of course, is why DHS now makes the much improved D40+ ball. Finally, DHS delivers a ball worthy of the DHS brand and a ball fit for top level international play. A ball that is finally roughly equal to the high quality of the Nittaku 40+ Premium ball.

    different material that makes the ball more consistent and durable but results in a heavier and less spinny ball. I'm pretty sure it is another kind of plastic called ABS (not sure for G40+ but D40+ and Nittaku premium 40+ for sure).

  • @wturber

    That's basically correct except for the point about weight. All balls must meet the same weight requirements, so any differences will be small. Also the issue about having less spin is very subjective and hardly settled. So far, there are no objective measurements.

  • @davidbastidas9870

    So if there isn't such a big difference between old 40+ balls and these new 40+, is it all about the marketing or brand competition?

  • @wturber

    @wturber

    7 жыл бұрын

    There is a real difference. It is in the material. The D40+ balls bounce about the same as celluloid balls. They are more durable. And subjective impressions suggest that they are more uniform and that they maintain their uniformity well. It is only the comment about weight and spin that I'd caution against taking too seriously. If you want to purchase a DHS 3* non-celluloid ball, be sure to buy the D40+ - the package with the woman player printed on it.

    I'm very angry after have seen this video. 200'000'000 balls as production of DHS, handmade, quality control not on top. the sessione 16-17 was the year of scraped balls (and not only for us...read the formus ww). we paid 1,60 Euro each ball, more than 80 balls gone in championship games. unbelievable. technically a problem still now, still now again, there are today (again) no balls to buy. politically and economically: a multiple of 200'000'000 gives everyone motive to put hands in this business. And DHS is only one of ... Management by bananas: the product grows up bu customer (it pay...). And we pay!
