Table tennis is unarguably the most underrated sport. People fail to appreciate the complexity behind it, because they never really spend time practicing this art, or simply because its mechanism is too hard for some to understand. Well to be fair, it can be really easy, just like a good old garage ping pong. However, when you play at a decent/competitive level, it's not just about hitting the ball. It's about deciphering opponent's serve movement, reading the spin both visually and acoustically (yeah, we also rely on our ears for information), observing opponent's joint positions (wrist, shoulder and pelvis), making predictions, moving while finalising your strategy, and eventually making a return, which can be a short push, long push, flick, loop, top-spin drive, counter topspin, etc, depending on the situation and the playing style of your opponent. All these happen in a split of a second, and every part is unforgiving. So to see table tennis being studied as a way to potentially cure dementia is so exciting and hopefully this time people can look at this sport differently, and just pay a little more respect.

1:50 - knowing the topic... I got instant goosebumps.... That was a GREAT talk! That makes sense to me, in part, thinking about how effective "brain yoga" can be... crossing the right and left hemispheres of your brain and such... I'm getting a ping pong table. Thank you ❤︎ ❤︎

Good video. Dr. John Ratey in his book Spark talks about how aerobic exercise is good for the brain.
