Many ornamental flowers and cut flowers are TOXIC. ALWAYS do your own research and take responsibility for the plants that you introduce around your kids, pets, and everyone else. Use common sense when handling plant materials: wear gloves, always wash hands, avoid contact with face, etc. NEVER consume any plant which has not been positively identified with complete certainty to be safe and edible. Before planting anything, research to determine whether specific flowers are considered invasive where you live or if there are laws that apply to their planting in your area.

Taking the plunge this year. I have a poetic justice seed purchase - green/envy zinnia. I purchased that variety and failed it a few years ago ( direct sown but bunnies at the sprouts ) so now that I winter sowing I’m excited to finally grow these and MAYBE see them flourish.
It's currently winter here in Australia and I'm very much looking forward to planting some zinnias in the spring. Hoping to winter sow many varieties using the milk bottle method - it's my first time ever so hopefully will all go well.
I thought my zinnias were beautiful....and then I watched this video lol. I am so jealous of those beautiful blooms!

yeah, this year is not only my first year in the flower garden, but a total bust. Corona pushed back ALL OF MY PLANS so I am happy to hear, that even though I am totally late to the train with my flower garden plans and everything is super duper scaled back AT LEAST I didn't mess up anything and I can still pinch my couple of zinnias 😂. At least this way I may have a few more blooms. Thanks for the heads up!

Looking forward to my zinnias boming. How do you start cutting?
I have ones from the nursery who flowered two days after i planted them, can i snip the flower off and get the same results? How long about will it take for new flowers too form on the new snipped growth?
Very useful video, especially since it's on a very specific flower! These are in my top 3 favs :P. I just wanted to mention something, and please don't take it as me attempting to be anything other than helpful to you on your channel. I'm not an expert, just a regular viewer... and sometimes, that's the input that's needed, no? Anyways ... I'm a chatty-cathy ... always so talkative. I feel like you and I would never cease conversation hahaha. In KZread videos however, concise and consolidated explanations work better. People also tend to respect KZreadrs who mention less about their channels and subscribing, etc etc... I feel rude. Hope I don't come across that way though. Good day!
Do you ever plant what you pinch off.
i'm using sand for my cuttings, check the package to be sure it's washed sand

Hi, love your content and excellent source of flower information. Quick question...when you plant Zinnias in trays how do you remove them? When in cells it would seem to be easy. Why do you choose trays instead? Thanks!
@TONYAwiththeflowers
3 жыл бұрын
I just gently break them apart. I like using the open trays because the plants never get root bound before transplanting. Also, cells tend to dry out very quickly using the winter sowing method. Hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching! :)

loved your vid, i have a question----i planted zinnias in a pot and the pot is loaded do i need to thin them out? if so is there a amount i should save,,the pot is 16 inches across. and with the ones i take out can i repot to another pot. thanks for your time.
@TONYAwiththeflowers
4 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the type of zinnia. Smaller ones are usually fine if they're a little crowded. If they're supposed to produce larger flowers, I would consider thinning them. Generally, a very close spacing will decrease the size of flowers. Hope that helpsd 🌱🌱🌱
Those looked really close together. My seed pack said plant a foot apart for all of mine. thoughts?
Would it be good to pinch if I want blossoms in 2 weeks? Ours are tall and just started getting the blossoms buttons on top

I can’t keep my zinnias healthy all through the summer in Oklahoma(zone7a). They start dying toward end of July. Is it wrong to water them every morning in temperatures of the high 90s? I figured since roots don’t go too deep, the soil gets bone dry every day. Mine never look as healthy as everyone else’s zinnias. I did start watering at the base to avoid mildew. This year I will be trying not feeding them. I heard a good compost is all you need for the whole season. Thanks for the tips and is there anything I’m missing?

Zinnias are very low maintenance. Sounds like you may be loving them too much. They are a desert flower and once blooming require minimal water and love lots of hot sun.
