PinballBulbs' Mini Virtual Pinball Cabinet

Ғылым және технология

We were recently at California Extreme, an annual convention celebrating classic arcade and pinball games. At the show, we were introduced to PinballBulbs' Mini Virtual Pinball machine--a cabinet designed to play emulated and digital games like Pinball FX. We play with the machine to see how the experience compares to a traditional pinball cabinet!

TAKE MY MONEY!!!! I'm an old pinball wizard from long ago, and I think this cabinet sounds great. The play looks pretty good, and having defender and other games in it as well make it well worth the price. I go to the Pinball Hall of Fame in Vegas often, and my favorites are usually broken. The owners are constantly fixing or finding parts for these old (and new) machines, as many people go there to play. It's the best way to toss away a few bucks in Sin City! Having this table at home would be super.

Virtual Pinball can be so much more than what this guy is selling. Yes, you can have real tactile feedback, really feel the flippers, bumpers, and virtual ball banging around, have two sound cards running the music from the back glass and playfield sounds from, well, the playfield. Many real pinball machine tables are available as well via different software. Real DMDs, and more authentic sized options. Plus, there is really cool technology that allows the player to get 3D effects without 3D glasses by having the computer sense where the player is looking and adjust the 3D graphics. No, it still won't truly replace mechanical pinball machines, but with so many really amazing machines out there that many will never get to play, virtual pinball is a great option and really is a lot better than many of the (uneducated on the subject) haters think that it is.

Will it run Space cadet? But really, this is a cool idea, if they added a 3D screen and haptic feedback to enhance the feeling of playing, this could be a nice alternative to owning the much larger and more expensive physical pinball machines, and you get way more games with more coming out

Jack Porter A long vertical 3D screen would be pretty hard considering you have to be at the right angle to see it all in 3D without it actually impairing your ability to see. Haptic feedback would be a great addition. The cost would probably go up considerably though

this thing is awesome, cant wait to try it at the denver showdown. The only major player making these is called vpcabs "were on sharktank". They are very nice but priced high. This hits the sweet spot in size and being a gun shooter is just a bonus. Good work guys. Digital pinball did suck - referring to the older simulators. However Pinball fx2 and The pinball arcade by Farsight studios are kick ass. Its not real but a great alternative for those with limited space or wanting more than 1 machine.

Pros: GOOD digital pinball that emphasizes strengths & doing things analog simply can't. Added sensor to emulate TILT so it can do a good knock off of analog at least. It's also a standup MAIM cabinet! Cons: It's not analog. That's about the only con I really see. I really would have liked a proper analog plunger but I understand how hard it'd be to translate that input to digital. All in all the doubling as a MAIM cabinet is likely the strongest selling point for me. You've got a digital pinball machine that plays hundreds of pinball games but also thousands of classic arcade games as well.

This really isn't overpriced or absurd. Digital pinball has been around a long time. I recommend going to look at peoples builds on the internet (see VPforums). Creating your own virtual pinball isn't out of the ordinary - and making a quality one yourself is going to run you around 2k. There are of course companies that will build VP machines for you and charge you 2500 bucks and sometimes much much more (virtuapin). But I would say look into what others have done before you shit on virtual pinball. Alot more goes into a virtual pinball build than most expect. It's not as easy or cheap as it looks. As pinball gets older and older and collectors grab hold of all of the machines - the price of normal pinball machines continues to go up. I don't see VP disappearing. I imagine it will only get better and more prevalent.

Josh Stuckey Mark in the video wrote a lot of the dmd and backglass scripts many in the community still use today. He wrote a lot of these years ago and have been available for free for some time for everyone to enjoy. The real time backglass changes and pinball arcade is definitely new. Definitely didn't mean to sound like we invented anything, but there is a lot on this currently software wise we did write and is exclusive to these machines. We've been making virtual pinball machines for about 7 years now. Mostly for ourselves at first and then locally and done a few local shows. Finally got into production machines as of a lot more recently as we developed the front end software

The thing I don't like about virtual pinball machines, is even with the best graphics... its still 3d on a 2d screen. So I can't just lean to the side and get a closer look at the bumpers and whatnot. Without the depth it just doesn't work for me.

Plus several hundred dollars' worth per machine of software and electrical engineering, several hundred dollars' worth of cabinet hardware and engineering, and cost of labor to assemble, plus the $150 of Steam credit he mentioned, plus wages for employees, plus rent on the warehouse where they built it, etc, etc. I think you get the point. If you personally are capable of engineering and building a completed product of the same caliber as that machine, then the time you would spend building it is worth way more than $2500 minus the cost of the parts. If not, then $2500 is quite reasonable.

But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.g” John 3:16-21
