Yes, some songs just stick with you, in a delightful way. I heard the tune in a TV commercial this afternoon and tried to tell my wife where it was from but couldn't remember the name of the group. So I looked it up for the 6th time and then did a little more looking. I thought Pilot was a one-hit-wonder but they've been successful for many years. Bravo to them.

I’ve heard this song in so many movies etc. throughout my life. For some reason it seems like I’m hearing it for the first time in my life and it’s beautiful

The dual fret guitar made a huge difference to this song and Ian Bairnson's playing . Such relaxed professional talent.

I love David’s melodic bass lines. Plays melodies on bass like Paul McCartney does. As a drummer, I can appreciate a melodic bass player. Dave, you are underrated, brother. Pilot are all talented musicians. Enjoy the music.

Now this is what you call real music 1970s and 1980s Classic Soft Rock I was born 30 years too late I should have been born in the 1960s so I could have grown up listening to this type of music

Born in 64 I was 11 when this came out this music was great

Wow I'm blown away to actually hear these guys live. Tuned down a little from the original, but I really enjoyed the picked up groove. It kind of was a more "jam out" version of the song. Drums sounded almost more lively w extra fills etc. Loved the added 7th chords etc in a few places that I can't detect in the original.

Well you didn't do too badly not understanding the lyric. I would guess 99% of English speakers could hear this song 100 times and not correctly explain the lyric, but they can still love it! In fact they way he sings "Never been away-e-ache," I bet few people understand the word is "awake."

Ian Bairnson, one of the best guitar players Britain ever produced. Very underrated player.

Wow! My story is identical...I was 11. I remember this song on an afternoon with purple clouds after a rainstorm. The sun's rays were just coming out shining on the trees. The two - the song and the weather that day - are edged in a happy childhood memory.

Paton's eyes look like he stayed up late the night before - partying, insomnia about being on TV, something. Anyway - great musicians, great song, love the rock and roll fire texture of this recording.

He probably had to show up for this shoot at 6am....so, three hours of sleep at best. I've done plenty of those. Gene Krupa appears in an ad for BC Powder: Last Friday I played at the club until 2a, then rehearsed until 5a for a recording session that started at 9a. A gig like that can leave you with a swinging headache. Worst I ever did: Work 9a-6p at my day job, then drive 1.5 hours to a consulting gig and work an all nighter there, leaving at 7:30am the next day, then drive that same 1.5 hours through stressful incredibly heavy rain to be at a 9am meeting for my day job and then work until 6p. Computer programming.

What?????? No oboe. Let me go listen to that again. Nope...no oboe and no horns, and no "etc." Yes there are subtle, and tasty, strings underneath the last chorous that I had not noticed before, so thanks. This version also has a guitar intro, so out of seven points you mentioned (counting "etc" ), four are wrong.

Somewhere maybe, but not here in the USA. This was their only top 40 hit in the USA. Literally every single act in the top 40 that year was soaring higher than Pilot. That includes classics like Disco Duck, Convoy, The Streak, Afternoon Delight, Kung-Fu Fighting, and Grandpa got run over by a reindeer. Tiny Tim was hotter.

This and January, two of the best ever pop songs ever written IMO. The E minor with the 7th added and the C#m with diminished 5th are the sumptuous chords that give that catchy kick to magic in the intro/verse and solo guitar bit. I’m a bit biased, as I bought both singles in the seventies and played them over and over and over and………………….over again. 😀

Brings back so many memories ~ loved (and still do) this one back in the day.

This is from well before my time, but I can't quite believe this is what used to pass for mainstream pop in the music charts, y'know, with real people proficient at playing real instruments and writing catchy sing along tunes with decent lyrics! I still haven't forgiven my parents for making me miss the '70s!
