in one of olimar’s data logs in pikmin 3 he states he’s excited to get back home and buy back his dolphin with some excess treasure he’s collected. i think that’s exactly what he did and just ended up crashing it again.

The SPEROs, the Koppaite pods, are only in Side Stories because the devs didn't bother to make new animations for the blue pod or the Hocotate ship. The SPEROs are not canon, they are just stand-ins for the actual ships that we use in Side Stories, the Hocotate ship for all of Assignment and the blue pod for all of Comeback. Also olimar talks about wanting to buy back the Dolphin in Pikmin 3.

I would love to see an alternate timeline prequel, but I really don't think that's the case here. They've _always_ been inconsistent between games. In Pikmin 2 the entire planet shifted continents completely in the short time it took Olimar to fly home and back, with only a loose explanation... In Pikmin 3, the planet looks completely different like Pangea Ultima, with once again no explanation (and suddenly there's a lot more signs of human life in the form of in-tact pots and gardens everywhere) and now in Pikmin 4 there's a LOT more human evidence than ever before, with an entire HOUSE despite the implications of the previous games saying humans were gone and extinct. It would not surprise me if continuity wasn't their focus, and they were just making stuff up as they go as usual (the series was originally directed by Miyamoto, after all... the same guy who doesn't even bother at all for the continuity of the Mario series).

@@mintshake8138 Yes I did, but this was commented _before_ and technically, it doesn't mean its a prequel. It could just be Olimar became Olimin after returning to the planet again... we don't know yet, we'll just have to wait and see! (I'm hyped)

Well to me as someone who didn't know about the series it seemed like it's an animal crossing type game do I didn't bother

Btw you missed a detail, Olimar says that he was going to buy his S.S. Dolphin back by getting some extra treasure, which I assume he does so after getting the Hocotate Ship back in the Epilogue Side Story in Pikmin 3 Deluxe, And all the treasure they collected before the Formidable Oak is stored in the Company ship

I follow the “after pikmin 3” path, where olimar just gets so rich from pnf 404 where he bought back the dolphin, crashed AND THEN he failed and died :) just to remove the stupid time worp shift

I believe the bad ending theory is not true because: Olimar is wearing his Pikmin 3 Space Suit which was stated in Pikmin 3 to be completely different ones than the outfits from 1 and 2 especially with Olimar's comment at how the space suit doesn't fit him which would explain why the Pikmin 3 suits look like it's a bit more tight compared to Pikmin 1 and 2 where the suits are sleek and smooth not to mention it is said that Olimar and Louie got their Pikmin 3 outfits from a Space Store(I forgot the name...it was something like Depot or whatever), and not to mention right now Louie is now confirmed to be in Pikmin 4 recently, and oddly despite looking like a pikmin, it looks like Olimar is obscuring specifically his face with something that did not appear on him during the bad ending of pikmin 1, not to mention, He is still able to use his whistle which we know he loses in Pikmin 1's Bad Ending, and doesn't attack enemies like Pikmin do, not to mention he challenges us to Dandori Battles....something I assume is a popular game on hocotate, and it's almost like he's training our pikmin skills with quickly getting resources and such...maybe hinting what we need to do in the final boss, or preparing us for when we have to fight this game's Wraith, then we have the Castaways, if the Pikmin 1 Bad Ending did happen that means they wouldn't even be there because 1: Olimar wouldn't be able to spread stories about his visit for Scientists to learn more about PNF-404's many animals and organisms, 2: Having the bad ending happen means Olimar never gets all of his ship parts, including the radio, which would bring some confusion on how Olimar sent an S.O.S signal if he didn't get all of his ship parts in time, 3: Olimar explicitly says that time on PNF-404 is shorter than time is on Hocotate, so basically it might mean a whole month on PNF-404 could be just a week or so on Hocotate which also could explain why the President wasn't freaking out on where Olimar has been when he returned during the start of Pikmin 2. Therefore something else is going on with Olimar this time. *Thank you for coming to my TED Talk* Side note: The tralier specifically says Olimar sent a SOS signal, not something like "An SOS signal was sent" but it mentions Olimar like he specifically sent it himself, and take note Olimar crashes in the first area of the game and note when Jimble zooms in on the dolphin, It looks like little to none ship parts were lost as it looks pretty fine, just about well enough to go into low orbit, heck maybe even head back to Hocotate like in the normal and good ending of the first game, Maybe Olimar might become our 2nd Captain by the time we finish the area, and heck since Louie is confirmed to be in the game, I would even bet he becomes the 3rd Captain, with the 4th one sorta being the good boi Oatchi. Which could help in multitasking in a variety of ways like having one captain with not a lot of pikmin bring oatchi along to cross rivers and carry treasure that's just a few pikmin short, or having Oatchi go with a Captain to find any castaways on the surface, while the others collect treasure, it would also help with the night modes to swap between protecting the Glow Pikmin nest from enemies, and gathering those star bits to produce more Glow Pikmin a bit easier.

if you look at the nintendo direct trailer that released there is a captain turned into a like weird plant half pikmin... i believe that to be olimar, i have no way of confirming this, but his look is EXACTLY like olimar, similar size and body shape, similar big nose, and similar space suit... also if you played the pikmin 4 demo, you see how this plant person turns captains into ones like him and its very similar to what happens in pikmin 1 bad ending to olimar.

OH, he also has the same colored dog pet as olimar, and commands pikmin like olimar did... so uh... pretty sure its 100% olimar, it doesn't feel that subtle and if its not him then nintendo really just created a identical twin... the bigger speculation is how did olimar become that way, its possible that after not being able to leave after 30 days, he did indeed run out of oxygen and in a last ditch effort, he turned himself into that to survive... we know from the pikmin 4 demo that the captains turned into that, the plant whatever it is, makes it so they don't need a helmet to breathe the toxic air, this would allow olimar to survive until an eventual rescue and cure for whatever this method has turned him into.

We've got some new information showing that Olimar appears to be player 2 in the game's multiplayer side content, so I think it's safe to say he's alive.

I find it funny how in pikmin three deluxe, Brittany’s description for the dwarf bulborb somewhat spoils one of ochi’s (don’t expect me to spell that right), abilities. What she says is that she thinks about taming and riding dwarf bulborbs around.

Olimar was able to but back his ship in the side stories of pikmin 3 deluxe, so thats why there's the SS dolphin

The new Nintendo direct basically confirms this, which is pretty crazy.

In the bad ending of pikmin 1 his stem is black. - He has an Oatchi looking creature which we know isn’t native to the pikmin planet so he must of got some other time so this cant be right after the first game. - I feel like everyone tends to forget this last detail. The planet is called “Giya” in the localization Also Olimar has a log in Pik1 that mentions he doesn’t have time to wait for a rescue team, as his life support only lasts a month.

Not to mention that Captain Shepherd is broke probably takes a while getting around and responding to SOS signals. Important agencies being crippled by financial issues has been running theme in the series.

About the S.S. Dolphin. In Pikmin 3 Deluxe Olimar went to search for more treasure for his boss in exchange for getting the S.S. Dolphin back in his possession. So the fact that the ship is back doesn't really confirm that this isn't happening after Pikmin 3.

In Pikmin 3 Olimar says he had a bad dream about being Olimin, so maybe he forgot what happens in Pikmin 4 and thought it was really a dream?

I think that is is a cool idea but in Pikmin 3 there was the s.s dolphin crash site during one of the boss fights, so it could be possible that the SS dolphin was rebuilt and could be used again

it was actually the hocotate freight ship crashed in the mireclops arena and the dialogue calling it the ss dolphin is a mistranslation. i do think its possible olimar chould have bought back the dolphin post- olimar's comeback and thats why its in 4

@@IceBlueLugia I think it’s to imply that it’s a prototype for the kinda ship that the P1 Dolphin is, and therefore a downgrade.

I think the mysterious person that resembles Olimar might just be a red-herring. It reminds me of cartoons where someone looks like another person, but it's not them at all. I'm almost expecting this character to shed their red leaves/fur to show they're someone else. The question then is "why does it have the same suit?" I think it could be a dobbleganger, or maybe even that it stole Olimar's suit but Olimar is alive somewhere else. I know this could all be completely wrong too

I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t retcon the good ending of pikmin 1. I’m confident they’re just gonna say he crashed another time after pikmin 3. It wouldn’t make much sense for them to make it convoluted when the story in any pikmin game isn’t anything crazy. It’s more likely a situation similar to pikmin 1 took place, but this time he didn’t escape the planet rather than making it an alternate universe.

I think a possibility can be that pikmin 4 happens around the end of pikmin 1 and part of pikmin 2 they go to the planet to save olimar, because of the SOS signals, but olimar already escaped, or is almost escaping, when you reach the planet, after the rescue corp crash, olimar is back at the planet again.

I remember when I was young and watching all the fan videos theorizing about what pikmin 3 would be like, none of them were right but it’s always fun to wonder. Some did creating pikmin and other creatures in spore or some other type of 3D animation or paint programs that were available at the time. I also remember the gmod videos that made pikmin as usable weapons in game. The top of my nostalgia was the pikmin DS adventure animations that thankfully are still KZread today.

Really hope its not a prequel, I want the story to be moving forward considering how long it takes them to make Pikmin games, I think the wraith has caught up to Olimar, I think maybe the fact that Olimar is being shown in black and white is so it does not show that he does not look like Olimar or something about him is off

Kagiya is probably named after Princess Kaguya and ancient Japanese tale about mysterious baby found by bamboo cutter and raised into a princess. When she becomes of age she desires to return to the bamboo Grove she was found in and upon arrival is revealed to be part of a race of moon people and departs back to the moon. It's one of the earliest alien stories ever recorded and would make a lot of sense for a series about aliens visiting Earth to reference.

Being able to create your own character makes sense for an AU story. It allows them to ignore it in a possible Pikmin 5.

I’m just so upset there’s no campaign co-op after how good it was in Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Felt like the most fun way to play it. I just assumed they’d carry that over due to how well it worked and how much more strategic it felt communicating with ur co-op partner and doing things simultaneously.

I hope kopai people are in the new game at some point

7:40 hearing the discussion ive actually found ive been playing pikmin 2 *incorrectly.* Trying to 100% it, by going gungho into every cave until its all finished. But no, caves have no time pressure, I can put them off till I *want* to go into them, and I build up my pikmin army until then. I hope going in with that mindset makes pikmin 2 a more enjoyable experience for me.

And then the literal next day we got Olimin

Nintendo doesnt seem to care about narrative consistency between titles. But i still love the theory😄

I like to think it's his SOS from the first game and it just took them forever to get there.

Most people believe it’s that bad ending of pikmin 1 and with the pikmin oilmar, I believe it.

I think it still takes place in the same timeline but something similar to the bad ending of Pikmin 1 happens after Pikmin 3 to olimar somehow.

Sadly, even if all 8 types of pikmin are in story mode (looking very likely), they've said there will be a limit of 3 types in the field at one time. Idk how this will work if bulbmin come back, maybe they'll be allowed alongside the 3 types taken into the cave. I also wonder if they will limit the hazards in caves to 3, or if there will be more for an extra challenge. Im so hyped for this game

Makes you wonder why louie wasnt fired at all or didn't get all the debt in pikmin 2 when HE was the one who caused the debt to begin with, making olimar's ship being taken away and having to go back to the planet he just eacaped from when he wants ro see his family after all that.

Theory of Relativity...on Hocotate and his space travel- 1 day could be a thousand years on PNF-404. Each time he returns to the oikmin it could be a very long time? Hence the tectonic shifts.

One thing to point out is that if that IS the s.s. dolphin, it's CLEAN and not a pile of scrap and appears with a complete hull. You can't get the bad ending with a complete or clean hull. Olimar must have returned with a rescued dolphin and had crashed

The Pikmin Short Films establish Olimar has visited PNF-404 multiple times after Pikmin 2 to collect treasure. The short films is one such visit. Pikmin 3 is another separate one. As is Hey Pikmin. So that means hes gone to PNF-404 a grand total of 6 times at minimum. If you count him leaving then returning in Pikmin 2 as separate trips.

I wouldn't take the depiction of the Earth's geography in these games seriously. Miyamoto is kinda known for not caring about story that much, so it's likely the dev teams missed the detail of how it was depicted in previous games. If I'm not mistaken the way the planet looks in Pikmin 3 is also different to how it looked in Pikmin 2

4:00 Theory; we're following the good ending path, then presumably that means all treasures in Pikmin 2, so there would definitely be the income to rebuy the ship, however in the bad ending chain (Is there a Bad Ending to 2? Dunno.) Where Olimar doesn't make it back, he was unconscious, and in the trailer I (and I could be wrong) didn't see the leaf on Olimar's head, so I don't see a timeframe where this could've happened

I read that you will only be able to bring out 3 types of pikmin at a time but I dont know if they are talking about caves or the overworld or both.

Pikmin 1 Good Ending -> Pikmin 2 -> Pikmin 3 Pikmin 1 Bad Ending -> Pikmin 4

I think the weird red oilmar is actually olimar and he underwent some sort of pikmin photosynthesis transformation thing in order to be able to breathe the air on the planet

What i dont understand is how are we gonna manage candypop buds in pikmin 4 since you can carry only up to 3 pikmin types now

I wish they'd bring back the plasmwraith in some form, after all, if they kept the same "crash landing" thing through 5 games, they surely could bring back the final boss of the previous game, right? Not only is the first phase in an environment similar to a cave, but it also has the power of all the elements, so they could add ice, glow and poison and it'd fit right in. I'm not wishing for just a copy paste return. Think of something like morpho knight, it returned in the main line game right after, but the fight was adapted into a different environment, and the setup was overall better executed.

Tbh it beings an alternative timeline makes the most sense given the recent trailer if its to be believed thats actually olimar and hes actually a pokmin and its not some troll like hes wearing a costume or its someone else or its all a dream or something.

i think its more likely he died between 3 and 4, LIKE the pikmin 1 bad end

I have the theory olimar bought the original dolphin back, but he crashed as he probably went in vacation again or perhaps another job back in earth but the ship broke down and the cycle repeated and olimar failed this time to rescue himself and…since we saw the leafy individual…we all know that olimar is…not going to see his family

My personal theory is that Olimar hits another object on his way back to orbit but the emergency life support only has 15 days instead of 30 because it didn't have time to refresh on what ever olimar breathed and when olimar failed, the bad ending of pikmin one would be the canon ending of pikmin one but recuse Corp saves Olimar as a leafling and than you either recuse the docter who makes a curethat requires you have to collect something you can only get at night than you cure Olimar than he some how gets back to his home planet which than kicks off pikmin two than three. Now thats the complete series of events in pikmin four.

I don’t think that 4 is a prequel of 2, I think it’s an alternate Pikmin 1, because of the fact the onions merge in the demo, which doesn’t happen in 2. Another thing is that in Olimar’s notes it seems that he’s just now discovering the Pikmin. Also if it were a prequel, why are we only now seeing the dog like creature Olimar rides during the demo? These are just my thoughts though, and I can’t wait for the full game to come out so we can finally get some answers!

Actually, you aren't allowed to have more than 3 pikmin types out at once. You can see in all the promotional videos they only have 3 at once, and the onion is only comprised of 3 colors too.

Wait why does the s.s dolphin that was sold kinda look like the new ship we see in Pikmin 4 but bigger and better looking ? Idk I might be over thinking Though I doubt they’d kill off olimar.

We know this can't be true, as in Pikmin 2 Olimar returns from his first venture, and it's clear that he just got back. Also, Olimar said he wanted the dolphin back and he waas gonna buy it

People keep saying “oh Olimar died and became a pikmin” but I don’t know with the design it seems very obvious(like to obvious). The only thing that’s different aside from being a pikmin hybrid is their hair(being full headed rather then just a tufted on top). It could be I’m an idiot and olimar’s hair just grew out being on the planet. Although I got a different take what if this takes place far after pikmin 3. Far enough to where olimar’s son has actually grown up to follow his father’s footsteps but being overconfident maybe took to long recovering the ship parts for their ship, dying. Although it said olimar is the one who needs rescuing so maybe not. I just have difficulty fully committing to the idea Olimar died and is now a pikmin. Then people wanna say that “oh maybe near the end he’ll be cured or purified.”. To me that’s like “what is even the point?”. Like that’s a pretty big change and just doing for essentially shock value would annoy me I think. So I’m kinda like if they do kill olimar so he’s a pikmin they better commit or it better be a different character.

I think people are overthinking this. What are the chances Nintendo would say “hey, remember the ending of that game from 20 years ago that you had to literally not do anything in order to get? Yeah, that’s what started this new game. Your hero is dead.”

Do we *have hard confirmation* that the good ending is actually canon? I know this is an out there explanation, but _IF_ Pikmin 4 ends with the rescue team curing Olimar, him presumably not remembering what he did as a Pikmin, and flying off in the Dolphin, could that actually work within the timeline? It would explain his dreams in Pikmin 3 of Pikmin 1's bad ending and I'm not sure Olimar has ever explicitly said _he_ repaired the Dolphin or the specifics in general of how he survived, beyond Pikmin being helpful. Though, I think the more likely explanation is that the logs in Pikmin 3 (and the Plasm Wraith) are essentially spelling out that Olimar is living on borrowed time and that the bad ending is his "fate" that he narrowly avoided. Returning to PNF-404 and dying is, dark as it sounds, kind of implied to be his ultimate fate

And then the Direct Happened today!

He didn't die, he's just reborn as a pikmar (if they don't use this name, i'm gonna be upset)

Also There’s just too many things disproving it. - Olimar is a red pikmin in the pikmin 4 trailer. In the bad ending of pikmin 1 his stem is black. - He has an Oatchi looking creature which we know isn’t native to the pikmin planet so he must of got some other time so this cant be right after the first game. - I feel like everyone tends to forget this last detail. In the original pikmin 4 trailers the announcer says “Captain Olimar has crashed *again*. Mike drop*
