    Really great stuff Lee. I see quite a few kids having a go for pike often without any proper gear to handle and unhook them. So sad I have seen a number come to an end that way. So my request Lee, a short vid entirely about pike handling. Everything from taking the barbs off the snap tackle if it’s all people have, getting to the hooks, going in through the gills when you have to, using forceps, deep hooked fish…how to avoid and deal with them. Lifting safely for a photo. Use of gloves. How to release, recovery in flow. I know it’s second nature to a seasoned piker but it’s the newbies especially getting it wrong, injuring fish or themselves in the process. Even some old hands do it wrong or have bad habits. Every fish saved now could be the monster of the future, that’s why I think it’s a good idea. The pace of your narration is good Lee, nice and clear. I would keep music to a minimum. I think most get this wrong with way too much music overlay. It’s always a matter of taste. But I genuinely think most would rather hear the line singing in the breeze, the clutch ticking, the natural sounds than overdub, plus that surely has to make them quicker to edit. Just my opinion, I had to produce them for my work years ago. If just one pike gets saved by a little of fish handling help it will be worth it. Me I would rather have a dropped run, missed take than a deep hooked fish, or if it is let’s hope there’s just one barbed hook in there so it can be got out safely.

    What a great end to the season on my favourite pike fishing venue. Well done matey. It’s been a hard place to fish since Christmas for me, very good to see you get some good size fish out. The elusive 20 evaded me this year!!! 🐊🎣

    @@obsessionwithangling Great way to end the season, piking has been an obsession for me for over 50 years, mainly lures as l find it difficult sitting behind a pair of rods but this coming October will be back on the deadbaits targeting some elusive twenties that don't seem keen on lures, that's if the otters don't get them first!!!!

    The majority of the pike I've caught this season have given indications like that first pike you caught in this vid. The bite alarm doesn't go off but the rod tip bounces!

    Lee - great video and some fantastic fish. The pike is the most beautiful creature to look at - whether it's 2lb or 20lb, the colours and markings are stunning. Tell me, do you only use sardines, or are they your preferential 'go to' bait? I've never had any success on them (nor smelt) - always the mackerel or a sprat.....

  • @obsessionwithangling

    @obsessionwithangling

    2 жыл бұрын

    I used mackerel for many years and did well, although it's pretty expensive to be fair. so I chose to fish sardine and it's mega cheap, I get mine from a fish supplier in bulk at a brilliant price, so it's always on the 3 rods......using sardine or mackerel I've noticed no difference what so ever, I find if a pikes hungry it'll take any bait available in the swim I'm fishing. Many thanks for watching!

    Drop off Indicators would be best for most pike fishing situations, if your fishing the river and lots of weed and debris is pulling your line then personally I use bobbins like you would for carp fishing.(my personal preference) . Thanks for watching.

    Not everyone weighs there fish unless they are real big ones. If you've been pike fishing for many years you get a decent idea of how much they weigh. It gets them back quicker and it's less hassle

    Another cracking video, how come you use 20lb mono on the reel and not wire trace and the reel? What size is the keep net,is it the rubberized one? Wicked video

  • @obsessionwithangling

    You only use wire for the trace , I use 45lb normally which comes in 5 meters spools....the net is 42 inch ...thanks for watching.
