Pigment vs Aniline Leathers (Surprisingly Different!)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

When buying a leather jacket (or any leather goods for that matter) you run into a lot of descriptors about the leather. Some are obvious like leather stiffness.
But what about Pigment or Aniline leather finishes?
At initial glance, these finishes may appear to be quite similar. However, there are a few serious differences between the two.
The jackets I use for comparison are both from Rainbow Country. The black Hercules model has a pigment finish while the brown Speedster has an aniline one. They're both made from horsehide from the famous Shinki Hikaku tannery. So the only major difference between them is their pigment vs aniline finish.

    Nice job! Definitely a well needed video. It took me a while to get to the bottom of the difference when I was originally looking. Also, I think you did well going pigment on the black and aniline on the brown. 😁👍

    Great video, thank you. Question for you... Do you have a preference to Japanese made or US made leather jackets? or any other origin for that matter. I have both US made and Japanese made and I love them both, but tend to have a bias toward the quality of Japanese jackets, so I am curious to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance

  • @DudsByDel

    @DudsByDel

    I do like both. My closet is a pretty good mix. I’ve also had jackets from Aero and Thedi which are both European makers. I think the refined meticulous look of some Japanese jackets can make them less preferable for some punk / rock n roll styles for example. Just depends on what you are going for

    @@DudsByDel Yeah, fit is critical with leather jackets. I got mine in Tokyo right after the pandemic. Heard that there has been some changes to the ownership of Flathead and my sports jacket style motorcycle jacket I got is a new model. Had it for almost 2 years and had worn it in light rain condition, that did help with breaking it in.

    Hey man, recent subscriber. Im curious to know what's a decent leather biker leather jacket I the mid tier range? Say 200-400$. I don't want the cheapest of options but don't have the money for a luxury brand leather.

    Would probably recommend a quality used jacket. There are many available, for example Schott jackets can be had for $350-400 if you’re patient, sometimes even less. Same for Vanson
