What a great idea for the wire over the hot wire on the tub!

It has worked perfectly, even on hot days and the pigs mud had dried, the only thing they would do is put their head under the water.

At least they are not buck wild. That would have made them going through the fence more exciting 😂. Good video brother.

Nice setup!!! With that feed and water system, how long would you say the pigs can go without someone having to check on them? Like if you had to leave town for a few days?

Thank you! As piglets up to about 50-75lbs the water last a good 2 months with out having to fill it, and the feeder lasted about a month, now that they are grown, 150lbs+ the water still lasts a month and the feeder lasts a week to 10 days, but you could ration their feed to last longer if you wanted.

How did you keep your hot wire fence so tight

I use the ratchet strainers for electric fence, you can get them at any fencing store.

Make sure you use high tensile wire, it has "memory" so when you stretch it its always trying to go back to its original shape so that helps it stay tight during tempature changes.

Were they trained on electric or put out on electric? What fencing did you use?

  • @Grazing-M-Acres

We didn't train them. Once they got shocked once, they never bothered it again. Pigs are very smart and learn fast. I use 12 guage high tensile wire for 90% of it, and one strand of braided poly wire. Once they get use to the fence, one strand of poly wire would keep them in if you wanted to move them around

@@Grazing-M-Acres getting pigs in the Spring and am looking for the best set up. We will train them in a 16'x16' pen and then expand the electric fence after that to give them more space to stretch their legs.

My Setup is probably not the best by far, but I can say it worked well for us. Pick a spot you don't mind being absolutely destroyed if you plan on leaving them in one spot.

@@Grazing-M-Acres location has been decided. Deep litter method will be utilized. The area just had some trees cleared and it would be cool to stir up the seed bank and see what is there.
