Building an Easy Automatic Pig Watering System
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Pigs require a lot of water and tend to turn their watering dish into a wallow. We get some food grade barrels and turn them into a pig watering system using hog watering valves and bulkhead gaskets. We also show you what we do with all our extra eggs with the help of a Sun Oven.

There are just somethings that light up a homesteader’s world - manure, pallets, and food grade storage barrels. 💖 I love those hose nozzles. I still have the other one on the hose in my garden because I can get a gentle spray for my more delicate herbs, etc. But those nozzles are awesome for washing and spraying down a dusty grazing area. One of the issues we have had with the nipples is if they can get hot if they get any amount of sun and then the animals don’t want to drink from them. We bungee’d and zip tied an old beach umbrella to one of ours one summer. It looked ghetto but worked well. Also, consider mosquito netting over the top where there’s an opening. Hope things are going well. I’ve enjoyed watching your journey. 👍🏼
This is the type of stuff they should have on regular TV. 💖💖🐷🐣

Call a piglet "Trump" and CNN will come runnin!
The pigs drinking from the water system is precious
Thanks for the link to the bulkheads. Ordered 2 for my chicken bucket water system
You should move the water barrel to someplace that has shade so the water will stay cool. Neat idea.
To keep the little chick food away from the big birds: build a box about 3-4' square, maybe 1' high. 3 sides are impenetrable by all chickens, a solid back wall and hardware cloth on either end. You'll want a solid roof for weather protection. Across the front place sticks vertcally roof to ground, leaving space between just enough for the small chicks to get through but no adult chickens can reach the food that you've placed close to the back wall! I've seen this on Permaculture Chickens (Justin Rhoades) over a year ago and it works marvelously yet still allows the chicks free range with mama! 😀
I could watch your videos forever! I find them relaxing after a long day!
Neat idea! I had seen something on off the ranch where he used the roof to collect water for his chickens. Sure beats running a hose!

love offtheranch. matt is awsome
Great fix, your pigs will have continuous clean water instead of wallow water. Thank you for sharing😊
Looks like low maintenance, and clean water. It's a nice set up.
"Turn eggs into bacon" love it!!!!😁
I love the pig waterer. It looked like the middle guy had it all figured out and the other two were a bit behind. Your animals are so entertaining.

Yep a little molasses on there helped. They figured it out pretty quick.
Hi, I'm out in the West and been doing this kind of thing for 43 years. Still liked your pig watered and I'm finally going to put one together. Thanks for the inspiration.
The little oinkers and peepers are so cute!
Gosh those piglets are cute.. 🌻Happy Monday and have a wonderful week🌻
Good to see you both. Nice vlog guys....I think those pigs are pets I think the chickens are pets too. I love the water barrel it’s a great idea. I also love the sun oven. And the chickens. Lol I guess the whole vlog passes in my opinion lol have a great day guys. Until next time. 🐔🐷
Love the pig water system! We are thinking of getting a couple of pigs soon. This idea will come in handy!
Excellent project. I love the little smacky sounds the piggies make when they drink! I bet it was bittersweet to see them go.
Excellent pig waterer! FYI, it would fill faster without the nozzle on the end of the hose ;)
Found you guys from the pantry videos (when I was setting mine up) & have watched many more since then. We finally bought the farm & are actually living the dream. Picking up 2-3 kune's tomorrow & thought I'd review this video again, noticed you tightened the outer pieces before wrestlin the barrel. Ordering a brass nozzle, those are hi reviews on Amazon. Thanks guys.
I like that you added Marina an Ilaria to your signature. It is great to see their interaction and thoughts about the farm!
DANGER!! PUT the barrel up on some large flat stones otherwise they will make a wallow right under it and amend up sinking it into the ground or flipping it right over
Love seeing and hearing all of the critters around. Bet you are missing chicks in the house this spring...NOT!
Thank you. Awesome video with no BS. Exactly what I needed. I liked the eggs into bacon intro too.
This is the part I have trouble with when raising food? No matter how hard I try I still love them. Lol
Great vid. I love listening to the "happy" clucking when you threw down some chicken feed. Then when she walked away and was clucking to the chicks... Chickens are so much fun to watch. Love the pigs too. They need a little scratching post! Could probably make one with and old stiff bristle shop broom. LOL!

Watching her teach the chicks and listening to the different “words” she says to them has been awesome. They develop so much faster and more naturally with a brooding hen than they ever could being hand raised by people even under the best circumstances. The only negative is they are harder to train to come when you call them but the adult birds seem to be teaching them that. It’s just cool 😎👍🏻

Yeah I agree. When I got my chickens and they were out foraging in the yard, every time one would find a big bug or a worm or some ants, they would start that "happy" clucking. Then all the others would come running and it was like a football game! LOL! I always told them that if they would just shut up, they would get to eat it all! They never listened! LOL!

Pigs wallows are the best fun I don’t know if you have doormats in America made from coconut fibre they are brown and very bristley we used to wrap one around a fence post and sink it into the ground inside a pigs pen or yard and the pigs used to have a great deal of fun scratching themselves on it you should try it
Good job! Those chicks are so adorable, I always love it when the hens do the actual brooding and raising.
Omg, those piglets are so darn adorable! Your chickens are also so hilarious to watch.
very nice two smart pigs and one that does all the work on the water tank lol

I think pigs are also in my future. I'll get everything set up the fall.
Lol eggs into bacon ! Good one. Loved it thanks! All those babies.
Hey, you could make some nice relaxation videos by filming your chickens relaxing and other stuff. I could watch that for a while and enjoy it. Oh, this video is great too!
Let me guess, who had the camera today -- hmmmmm Jeremy is SLAVING under the scorching sun, while Jaime has gone to the birds !!!! Those brass nozzles are the best, mom and dad had one back in 1965 and it lasted until one of the kids (not me) lost it in the late 90's . Oh and I am extremely jealous, the ice finally melted on the lake on Saturday (Sink-o-de-mayo, or really sink-o-de-boat -- those plugs, nasty things to forget to check before leaving the dock)
What you can do with the small bung on the drum is put in some kind of float with a stick on it or a pulley at the top and a rope (where the pigs can't reach it) and a float on the inside and a weight on the outside that hangs down and shows the level of the water. Thanks for posting, the pigs and chickens are great.
I loved this video! The pigs are so adorable and so are the chickens! Great job, Jeremy !
Very nice video, especially with the background chicken. Learnt something and I'm putting mine together. Thanks
Hi ya Jeremy, Jaime!! I love the things y’all teach and share! I always thought putting a faucet n a barrel for a water catchment system would be complicated, as well as the nipples for the pigs, I’m glad I saw u do it, wow, it’s easy! Though I’d have to rig up something to hold the outside part in place while I craw inside to screw on the inside part, Lol, I’m short. I’m seriously happy how easy this is to do!!! Thank u
at least having the spouts low,, you can easily put the barrel on something to make them higher.

HA! I love it! The very first video of yours I watched, you said you could never have a pig! I can see 3 reasons why you were wrong! lol Great video!
"Turning eggs into bacon"... (:-( Little piggies! They are so cute. I may have to skip the episode of them leaving the homestead for the last time. Yikes! Great video, guys! That gravity fed system will be awesome! Can't wait to see that! Love and Peace ~Lisa
Cool way to cook eggs .love the views. Nice area. The pigs look happy .have a blessed week.love your channel
Grat waterer! I would suggest to have a mud wallow or somwhere wet for them to cool off. Important because hogs dont sweat!! You guys are great!
Great video, I will be making one of these for sure!
Great video. Loved it. Looks like you getting a nice life called out for yourselves. 👍
love this episode... thanks for sharing
You need to buy those pigs a kids' pool for summer. Great video.
Those barrels went full circle. Dipping sauce for piggies to drinking sauce for piggies
Thank you so much, that was fun to watch! Blessings :)
Great job! Now you need 35 more pigs. No point in a half empty freezer! Good luck.
Nice Benchmade knife you have there. My EDC is the Osborne 940. Only the best production knife on the planet made right here in Oregon, USA. Good editing. Good video. Great channel.
Awesome solution to watering chhallenge
awesome pig water guys !! cute chicks
Nice job. Cute chicks. 🐓🐓🐓
Great video, did anyone else notice she changed outfits in the beginning? Slick slick
a simple hack on how to tell when your water is getting low in barrel is to remove 3/4 inch bung on top. Get a piece of four foot wood or fiberglass rod and attach a cork on end and put through the 3/4 bung .. this acts as a floating dipstick and you can see from a distant when water is low without opening barrel .plus it acts as a vent to keep a vacuum from being formed as they drink water

We have 3 different families all running around like barnyard gangs. 😳🐣🐥🐓
Charlie used a similar set up when he built our automated pig waterer set up. It is actually attached to the pig tractor, so it moves along with the whole unit. The automated feeder is also attached. Take a look if you like.
Great video!
....... it's my understanding that Jeremy is coming over to my little cottage for a few days to help me with a few projects :)) Wouldn't that be nice !!! Great project Great video

:) I have 🍺 & 🥓 but the internet is a bit sketchy....
I don't know if this has been suggested yet, but you might consider putting a mat or cow carpet under the water bin to maintain the integrity of the ground underneath.
......I think my pigs were a little older when I built mine I had to put some eggs on the nipples so they would use it but great video. ...Thanks for sharing. ...

We used molasses. 👍🏻😉
They have to have a muddy water puddle that's how they keep cool they Waller in the mud helps to keep them cool down and bugs off of them and stuff like that keep their skin from drying out
Just love watching your videos ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent choice in knife! =))
You have beautiful chickens.

it'll be really funny if the back scratch happened right before "we turn extra eggs into BACON" haha "Nothing just scratching my bacon right here." :)
Thank you!!!
Impromptu unboxing vid 😁❤
good job
thanks for posting videos, was gonna go with those or a trouph system. hoping this is the magical week people tell me to come sign my life away for my small peice of paradise lol. (20 acres with a pond/lake with fish on it) thinking pigs, goats cattle etc on 20 acres should be sufficient but lots of projects to do. Also gonna have to research on how to keep the pond legitimately clean / to use water smart as well as a hydroponics system to make greens etc. ofcourse ducks and chicks are another project waiting to happen. Not gonna lie either, the rush for solar power off the grid like farm is my goal.
Is there anything that can be done about the leaking/drooling after they drink? I know water is precious to you.
Love watching your videos. Its been giving my wife and I some really good ideas. I do have an off pig topic question. What video camera are you using? its got really good lighting, color and contrast and sound. Thanks! --Rob
Good video
Those pig are too cute, I would not be able to butcher them. Pets they would be!
Awesome
Those are short spine peruvian mongoose, I heard there are only three left in the world.
I would make a lousy homesteader because I could never send those cute pigs to the slaughter house.

henry, I wonder how many people in Venezuela said that at one point or other before current situations there
I might have staggered the nipple height 10", 13", 16" so they have access as they grow. Possible they won't all be thirsty at the same time. Best
I love your vidios!
Good idea but barrel is gonna heat up n the sun and water will be to warm =bacteria least I would think so but still a good idea
I see a mud hole in your future :
Very kool

Yep
Will the water get hot in the barrel if u keep it in the ☀️?
Does the metal not hurt there teeth when they bite on it to make the water come out? Would thing it would have rubber tips or something. I wouldn’t wanna bite that thing .. looking todo this but easier in the mouth an teeth any suggestions?? Thanks
Looks like a good water solution!!! We have heard that spraying pigs with cold water can kill them.... we do not know if this is a fact or not as when we had our many different seasons of pigs we did not have running water near them so they were never near any hoses!!! LOL! We had to pump every gallon of water by hand and bring the water over by the barrel... so we never had a lot to waste! If you find out that this is indeed true or false... please share with us all. Thanks for sharing!!

They would even stick there noses in it which I thought looked uncomfortable but they did it all the time.
love what you are doing with rear breed pigs - I really like what Al has done on Lumnah Aces to house his pigs in the summer and winter as a night sleeping area - he would have purchased it secondhand as a food grade water or oil container - like it as he has left a lip so if it get really wet they still stay dry inside - have a look on his you tube site and see what you think
Mais muito bunito esses porquinho
How long did it take for the pigs to figure out how to use it? Looks like pretty quickly!

About 10 minutes. A little molasses on the nipple worked like a charm.
I just got some kune kunes this weekend, and im having the same issue with muddy drinking water. So one of these is definitely in my future. Did the pigs take naturally to the nipples or did you have to put something on them to show them how to use them?

They are very smart. Just show them how it works a couple times.
Were you put 3 you could of spanded them in different hights they would choose thier favorite one
