Typically pigeons perch on high, stable and secure spots to deliver their message in order to maximize the uninterrupted distance their message can travel, as well as giving them a clear view to detect danger or predators. You can see them filling their chest with air before talking so they can make their voice as loud as possible. They use lower frequency notes which travel further in air than the higher frequency notes used by smaller songbirds.
