Well at least they're better that the cheerleader peacock & gay lyrebird fashionistas, and the flamingo & ostrich ballerina rivals & his best friend is a toucan who can't see why the bounce.
They're the opposite of pigeons; somehow they move their entire body but keep their heads perfectly still whilst walking.

Pigeons actually keep their head still! They move so fast that they have what looks like that bobbing motion, but in actuality, they stick their head out first, and then the body follows!

Many birds will keep their head in one position then quickly snap it to the next, keep it there until they have to move it to the next position. I believe the reason they do this has to do with their visual processing.

@@YosemiteLee thank you so much and I’m so very sorry you experienced such violence. It’s heartbreaking. I’ve had 3 spine surgeries in the last 3 years. Two traumatic brain injuries. Head to foot injuries and permanent including partially paralyzed vocal cords from being strangled twice June 21,2018. He got away with attempted murder sadly and didn’t just 5 months in jail out of a 9 month sentence. Awful DA to charge so lightly . But just recently saw he’s doing Tik tok videos because he’s a relationship expert and marriage too ! 🤦♀️😱🤢🤮🤬Self proclaimed pastor who uses Jesus and quoting bible scripture to draw people in to adore him. Sad because he is so violent. Was a licensed counselor! Odie Anderson Samaritan Coaching. Beat strangled raped and more his own wife and while he’s being adored I’m suffering in pain. It’s not fair. My kids told me he harmed them too but they were afraid to tell me . Life is precious and I know I’m blessed to be alive and I enjoy the simplest things like this video. I find it challenging to deal with the amount of pain because the neurosurgeon and neurologist said it’s all permanent and I have to learn how to deal with the pain the rest of my life but that’s easier said than done. One thing I use as a distraction is cute videos and pray a lot. I enjoy listening to the birds singing and watching them splash and drink from the bird bath in my yard. I haven’t posted in a while but I tried to put more happy videos in hopes that victims can see if I made it that they can too but sometimes I think maybe showing the reality is better like you’ll have good days and bad days if good moments and bad. Recently I’ve felt tired vulnerable to post but I have so many video on my cell. I just need to muster up the courage to start posting again. One thing that drives me crazy is when people say You don’t look like a victim of domestic violence. What does that look like though ? A victim shouldn’t have to be covered in blood. Brain injuries are hidden but real. My clothes cover my abdominal and back scars but they are real. PTSD is not seen but real. Kindness is free and I wish more people were like you. Thank you. Maybe if you click the P it might take you to some of my videos I made to bring awareness for Partial Strangulation. I never heard of it until I was diagnosed 5 1/2 years ago. Gods blessings

I take it you haven't witnessed their mating flight ? They do this mainly at dusk . The male will fly straight up 100 yards or so wings whistling the whole way up ! Then he tumbles most of the way down ! squeaking and squawking as he's doing it ! Then he lands pretty much in the same place he took off from . Then you'll hear a Reet ,Reet sound for awhile . I guess it's to let any hens that may of saw the show to find him ? Hell do this many times ! Usually this takes place in late March and early April here in the northeast .
Funny I’ve not known about this bird until today 5/08/24 and I can’t stop watching enough of it. Thanks for yours one of the best compilations I’ve seen.

European Woodcock are migratory and fly from Siberia to the West of Ireland. They have a pin feather at the first joint in each wing which was frequently used by some of histories most famous artists. When they take off they empty their bowels completely to make them lighter for flight. Unusually they can carry their youn while flying. They have binocular vision for about 20 degrees in front and 11 degrees behind. The European woodcock looks longer than its American cousin, an altogether fascinating bird.

Amazing!
I'm just happy there are at least some very patient drivers out there giving these creatures time to put on their performance.
I think showing your child to make sure the ground is stable enough to walk on, is the perfect parent!
I'm watching this right in the middle of coverage of the war between Israel and Hamas (and hoping Iran doesn't jump in...) and I am LAUGHING OUT LOUD IN MY OFFICE BY MYSELF!!!!! Bless you for this wonderful moment in a crazy life ❤

Honest question, not trying to be suggestive. Does watching the news benefit you in any way or does it just fuel your anxiety? I've personally found that nothing the news reports is within my control anyway, and these days they make a whole show out of speculation. "This has happened. We spoke to a random 'expert' to hear more about what might happen next". Then the next day something else happens and the story repeats. More experts, more speculation. Personally I haven't read the news in a year and I've never been happier. If anything affects me directly, it'll reach me through other ways. But almost everyone else I speak to appears to have a strong urge to watch the news and I struggle to understand why. Thanks!

@@EctoMorpheusI completely understand where you're coming from, especially since the news tries to withhold the nasty details as well. I think it's to keep ourselves aware as much as possible, and a sort of morbid curiosity if you will.

@@EctoMorpheusThat is a solid statement and one I've been trying to convey in my own home for several years now. I appreciate your words immensely. God bless.

@@EctoMorpheus Don't know about others' motivations, but I have always wanted to live my life being ready for anything. It makes me feel secure. So I watch news so that I know what to plant in my garden, for instance, in case there's a flood or freeze that destroys the corn crop for that year. I watch the news so I can prepare for a harsh winter, for instance, by making sure I have enough wood for my stove so I will be comfortable and not suffer shivering all winter. So when I feel secure, I can spend more carefree hours sitting on my porch listening to the birds, having fun lunching with a friend, volunteering with a charitable organization or church group, cleaning brush and mowing the grass for an elderly person, just to name a few of the benefits of my feeling secure. I also can sing to the Lord all day long, because I know I have done what I can and I can leave all the rest of my cares and difficulties to Him. You mention you struggle to understand why people have a strong urge to watch/read the news. I would just say to you, if you don't feel the same urge and you are more happy not learning the news, you just trust yourself and be happy! More power to you! You have a special gift, I think ❤

What a beautiful comment thread
As a Woodcock Legend once said: "If you can't escape your predators simply mesmerize them with a dance. 100% proven efficiency. Satisfied or refunded."
That was so cute. I've never seen this kind of bird. Must have been awesome to put this on video. Thank you.😊
Whenever I see a picture of a bird I have to smile or in case of a video, immediately click it. It brings such joy.
I heard PEENT, and have been compulsed to watch every Woodcock video in my recommended page!
That just made me smile 🙂. We need more videos like this in these dark times. Made my day 👍🙂
This AWESOME, the accompanying music is just perfect. Thanks!
Cool how she's teaching her babies to dance!!💜
I've seen these birds only twice, despite ALWAYS being outside and their commonness in most of the areas where I do my 'outsiding'. One was sitting, stock-still and AMAZINGLY camouflaged, on our farm property in southeastern OH. I could've walked past a thousand times and never seen it, but I was watching a juvenile black ratsnake and it was headed its way (dunno if they nest on the ground, but if so I bet it was a nesting female, as ratsnakes LOVE birds/baby birds/sometimes eggs). I caught the snake, took it somewhere else, and never disturbed the bird. Another time I saw two 'dancing' across a trail in Cooper's Rock state park in WV, took them like 10 minutes, haha! So cool.
even the little ones are doing it!!!
LOL I love this video! (Great choice of music, btw.) Those birds are hilarious! (And so adorable!) Anyhow, I am told that they're creating vibrations to attract worms. These vibrations trick the worms into thinking it's raining, kind of like when people grunt for worms by sending vibrations into the ground.
This video just showed up in my feed and I'm incredibly happy it did
lying in bed after a day of crappy pregnancy sickness… didn’t hesitate to click when i saw woodcocks in my feed and am i glad i did. i love them and they make me smile
