This definitely has the feeling of something from the early 2000s before the weird foot fetish stuff really became well known. I mean I cannot imagine a reality that Nintendo would even make a flash game like this in the modern day. There was a level of naivete that simply doesn't exist now, and I think we should all be glad for that.

The Waluigi Toenail game was absolutely real. It showed him sitting down with his feet towards the screen. Your mouse turned into nailclippers and you snipped each nail. Each nail would fly off into a jar on the left of the screen. Afterwards it tells you to enter a friend’s email to send them the jar of toenails. My friend’s mom got mad, thinking I sent something from a fetish site. I had to explain to my mom it was a game. My mom thought it was funny but I didn’t see my friend much after that.

Weird that in my country (Chile), the format Dot Comedy tried to make actually worked xD We had a show called "REC" circa 2001-2, originally was about nostalgia and classic moments, then they shifted it to Internet content and flash stuff (when Internet wasn't exactly rare, but was painfully slow). The mere fact it lasted more than one season means that putting Early 00's web stuff on TV would be a good idea, but not when it's poorly planned

I have one for you: I grew up in Chattanooga, TN, and the local PBS station was WTCI-45. I remember around probably 1983 or so seeing a show on weekday mornings in the summer which was called Hot Stuff. What little info I found about it online years ago has actually also disappeared. Very little evidence it existed. Hot Stuff was the name of a hot air balloon, who talked to a human woman who had dark hair and I believe overalls. It was locally produced, and may have been taped in the stockroom of a mall shoe store. Very low budget. I'm starting to think that's about fully lost. Nobody remembers it, and the material isn't available.

Considering PBS had some staples in the 80s and local PBS all had differing shows depending on where you lived, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the local show was either lost or put on some tape or whatever to record a show in between. I'm more inclined to believe the former.

It apparently is, given that a few people actually remember playing it. It apparently involves clipping Waluigi's toenails, and apparently you could e-mail the jar to a friend. There is a small chance that the recounts are merely Mandela Effects, but it's entirely possible that either it was only playable for a certain amount of time that you'd have to play another flash game on that website to unlock it (there were a couple more games listed alongside it) or the game was loaded from Nintendo's own server and the "Coming Soon" screen was merely a placeholder

A piece of lost media I helped "find" (it wasn't a true find unfortunately since I was unable to share it with the public) were the trailers promoting the Biggs' Adventure matinee event at Regal Cinemas, which really annoyed people when they came out for their sheer number which would all be aired before 1 movie, and their shoddy animation. Unfortunately (but fortunately for the animators, who went on to do better things) when I got ahold of the trailers the animation wasn't that bad, it just paled in comparison to The Incredibles, which was where they were shown before.

Doesn't seem like any of the information deciphered recently is new though. One of us even said they wanted to try remaking the game themselves. Back in the day when Waluigi first appeared as a character, he wasn't very liked because of the promotional material like this. He was often portrayed as a bargain bin version of Boogerman (which itself was never popular) and having his only personality traits just being gross. It wasn't until after Mario Strikers and the memed crotch chop that made many people start to like him. Though thanks to his lack of physical games and the memories of his terrible early marketing makes him the most divisive character of the series

That was peak mid-2000s internet for me right there.
