I work in the school system and I am from the hood and work with students from the hood. I get it but again but I will tell them don’t let my professionalism fool you because I can go there but I choose not too because I want to show that I care and children know when you care about them it’s a Love/ Hate relationship. But as a teacher you have to establish a relationship with those students because they face a lot of issues at home which is unfair to them. The challenges are there and they’re already facing the cruelties of the world and someone to tell them that in the classroom there biggest defense mechanism is I don’t give a F or I don’t care, but deep down inside they do. You have to show them that you do care. I work in high school and I keep it real with them and tell them that it is not a game out there and the world will eat them out alive

Some of the most brilliant minds come right out of the projects, but when you're always fighting for survival it's extremely hard to focus on anything else. What gets me is if a student were to lean back in their chair, they'd get the type of discipline that conduct like this deserves. Why??? because some of the teachers get frustrated with the clowns and take it out on the rest. But...they had to keep it real in the movie.

@AmericanPowerBase even now, just because you say I am a fool does not make me one... so say whatever you wish. I merely spoke truth. Just because you are a teacher doesn't entitle you to treat your students how you wish. Respect is given only where it is deserved. She tried to bring Barbara down and instead of sitting there and just taking it she stood up for herself and told that teacher the truth. And that is why she started crying. Guilt can only claim the guilty....

I'm from the hood and I have a doctorate. I agree with Barbara's view point. If you don't understand her, then you have a high level of self-hatred. There are some people that think that just because they've achieved certain things in life, that they are better than others. Some Black folk ABSOLUTELY think that THEY ARE BETTER THAN OTHER BLACK PEOPLE. This movie was heavily influenced by Bill Cosby, and well, everyone knows how he felt about the "lesser".

Maybe, but the fact still remains that MANY of us would rather play victim and the blame game, than to actually do what the teacher did. Does that mean that one should talk down to others? No, but that also means that if you’re not willing to do the work to better yourself, you can’t get mad at the folks who did and got ahead. As messed up as the world and society is, it’s not going to offer you much sympathy for not taking initiative to better yourself, regardless of what your circumstances are. You claimed that people who don’t understand Barbara’s point of view have a high level of self-hatred. I disagree. Because, a lot of folks that do come up, have to constantly deal with the resentment and jealousy of those who didn’t. The self-hatred argument goes both ways. Just like what I mentioned for the teacher, the same can be said for Barbara, too. You can operate in self-hatred by being mad at the world for the circumstances that you’re in.

But what Sheryl was saying was right about the fact that if it wasn't for the under educated black children in the system they wouldn't have a job. the shit was design to fail to, like if my job was too get ten people employed and I did then my job would be terminated or reduce to part time so for me too succeed they must not.
